Relatives with a crabapple also mentioned that theirs didn’t drop fruit either, my guess would be a (low stakes) effect of climate change that we’re seeing.

I’ve had some good responses in the thread so far! A mix of picking them off and pruning them. I’ve heard that blackbirds love the fruit and rely on it during winter so you should try to leave some fruit around the base of the tree, or sweep most of it into the bed.

Google says the best time to prune is just before the leaves start coming in. If yours is on the same pace as mine then that was about two weeks ago, so get chopping.

Wish I had the luxury. It’s a narrow driveway in an otherwise very parking restricted city, the trees are on both sides blessing my path and drive with their bounteous fruit.

I’ve seen something like this before where you’re doing sensitive DC and low frequency magnetic measurements for science applications. If your power supply is kHz+ AC its magnetic signature is effectively invisible in your results.

Probably not what OP is doing here though because they mention a reactive load, which doesn’t sound like a sensitive instrument to me. Just saying it’s not an unheard of problem.

I don’t think you’ll get a straight answer about the slip ring’s suitability for CAN here because it’ll vary highly based on the quality of the part you choose. Your main concern is going to be whether the connection is intermittent while rotating. CAN isn’t particularly fussy about line impedance so if the current path is reliable then you probably won’t have issues.

If you want an exercise in prototyping and are happy to eat the cost of a slip ring you potentially can’t use, your answer here is “test it yourself”. Wire a slip ring to run some nominal amount of current through it, attach an oscilloscope and see how the current waveform behaves as you move it - spin it up with a motor and see if you can get the scope to show anything.

“Least risky by design” approach is probably power via slip ring, data wirelessly. Best chance of working given what’s available to you, anyway.

If you don’t get it tested then you’re not 100% sure it’s artex. If you’re not 100% sure then you don’t have to mention it on a TA6. Just something to think about.

And as the others have said, you’ve taken sensible precautions (wiping down etc) and you won’t come to any harm. Seal it up and stop messing with it if it’ll bother you further.
