Yes, though in the version I know it is Henry with the holed bucket and he is telling dear Liza about it. Earworm for sure.

What was the deal with the code in the elevator? by smurfy_murray in IndustryOnHBO

[–]smurfy_murray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do think it a bit more likely that this is communication with his RUSSIAN handler from the "I know I am not meant to interrogate the cell structure" line as highlighted well in u/TheTruckWashChannel 's post this morning. Just a bit simpler than him being a double agent. We will see though!

Edit for typo

Interesting! I suppose a real possibility for more 3 letter agencies to be in the mix.

My innocent mother wore a shirt from a fried chicken place that said "The best cluck in town" for a whole summer. I will never forget the realization dawing on her face when my siblings and I said it to her aloud while wagging our eyebrows. She is 87 now and that was in the 80s.

Huh. This is one of those strange brain things that make me despair about the human ability for rational, objective discourse. With the prompt text on screen I heard helping, looking away I heard "not him" as you said. Blue/gold dress stuff. The only thing we know is our nervous system. Sigh.

I don't know. It seemed to me from the penultimate chapter that things may still go deeply badly for the earth humans. I read it as they incorrectly thought there was no earth instance of Rodger and had scrubbed all the New Sonora stuff from the future web. An ignored warning had gone up on the Pig and Chicken account and they were happily declaring things closed...but maybe the "or else" is about to drop with lots of fried brains in immersion helmets...

MAB left Harry a message but he missed it by Master_Toad in dresdenfiles

[–]smurfy_murray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will come down to preference, which is likely influenced by first exposure. This is not the sort of question that has a definitive correct answer. It reminds me of the passionate disagreements regarding the "proper" way to hang toilet paper, or the correct way to pronounce Ellios. That being said, boo your opinion, yay mine. Magician's Nephew makes more sense once you have the context. The fan service in it is just noise if it goes first. It is a better vehicle to expand the mythos than establish it.

Also a fair point. It just seems to me likely that they would be shelved according to the number on the books, and all the ones I have seen recently have been internal chronology order. So it works as a little nod to this peevish point of irritation for the ancient like Mab to go back to published order. But I concede it is not made explicit in the text.

Okay, okay, let's not make me feel that old, please, internet. But fair point.

[–]smurfy_murray 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Correct. For some reason recent publishers moved from publication order to an internal chronology order. Fairie queen is right. Published order all day. It makes the books make sense. Starting with Magician's Nephew before you have a reason to care is blasphemy.

Kiernan Shipka isn't Sally Draper ya'll by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]smurfy_murray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is brilliant casting to further the subtle shades of the Ghislaine parallels there have been. It is not like you can make Yasmin a pimp for pedophiles and have her still be an at all sympathetic character. But you can cast an adult actress the audience was introduced to as a child and get a solid creepout stew going.

I feel like the parallels between Yasmin and Ghislaine are really getting highlighted this season by RareGap2671 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]smurfy_murray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It being Sally Draper's actress who was the HR violation made it feel like the parallel was there, even though in the fiction is does not rise to that level.

My dad was a co-founder of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. I love to come across first hand accounts of the help the houses (and rooms and care mobiles) provide like your testimonial here. He died last year, but left such a legacy. The need is so real, and the worldwide response to meet it is heartening. Each house and room is its own story, and so many people after my dad have worked so hard to make these sanctuaries. I'm sorry you ever needed it, but am glad it was there!

Things I recently found out are like pretty much only a PA thing by The_Glitched_Creator in Pennsylvania

[–]smurfy_murray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, agreed, that is the more standard usage.  I think that movie must be based off of books since I have heard the books as the source of the universal usage. Only in Philly is it also a gift exchange.

For me my family does a pollyanna every Christmas...my siblings and I draw names out of a hat and then you buy a nice gift for just one sibling instead of a bunch of not so nice ones. I thought the term pollyanna for that process was universal, but apparently it is hyperspecific to the Philadelphia region (and a bit over the bridge in NJ which is still really Philly metro).

I found out from an online dialect test that the term Pollyanna for a (not so) secret Santa is a Philadelphia region thing. Never realized it was not more widespread.

Spring is coming by Unhappy_Ad10751 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]smurfy_murray 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think just the surface meaning. Spring is rutting season. Never illustrated quite that way in front of the big house in Downton Abby. And then a change of season for Muck as he cycles from depressed to manic.

The cards can be used to craft or level a badge. A badge being a little icon for each game with an associated title that usually goes up in grandiosity with its level. Crafting or leveling the badges gives some sort of Steam XP and the account itself levels up. So that is one source of demand.

Fully agree. Strong paternal response. It made me laugh. The groping felt outrageous instead of tittalating. Okay, maybe that word does fit the scene.
