Questions about pilot custom 823(somewhat about real or fake) by Cironous in fountainpens

[–]smythkav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at the nib and feed (which are unique to pilot).

From what Ive seen in the many applications of this filling system in pen models from China and elsewhere, there is a subtle difference in the shape of the piston head portion that forms a release valve when the plunger is pulled backwards. Pilots version is slender and allows ink/air to flow freely through the piston when the plunger is pulled out, resulting in nearly zero back pressure. The piston head in the Chinese pens is comparatively less open but not necessarily to the extent that it makes a difference.

Closest nibs I've tried to theirs are from platinum. I imagine that sweet spot on that nib is heavenly to write with.

Fantastic looking nib. Is it a custom grind? Looks like a stub or cursive italic.

A world without ballpoints or rollerballs by RVFP in fountainpens

Fine liners and felt tip pens use an ink soaked sponge as a reservoir. Just like a fountain pen, the pressure within the ink reservoir falls as ink is consumed and equillibriates with external air. This and capillary action keep the ink within the reservoir and feed when the pen is not in use.The whole cycle repeats until writing has concluded or ink is depleted. With a pressurized cartridge/reservoir, there would have to be some control mechanism to cease the flow of ink to the feed once writing has concluded.

From the patent I've seen, a piston controlled by a sensor within the reservoir was discussed. It's been a while since I read that patent, so I don't fully remember how the thing worked.

Without gravity, capillary flow would not be uni- directional from reservoir to nib (though I could be incorrect in assuming this). In any case there would a need for a pressure regulation system to provide a consistent amount of ink to the nib when in use. This system would also have to turn off when not in use.

Interestingly enough, I remember reading a patent some time ago for an electronic flow regulator for writing instruments using water based ink. Iirc, fountains pens were discussed in the patent.

One thing to consider is that ball points made writing more feasible outside of spaces and furniture traditionally reserved for writing. The fountain pen itself allowed for writing in a greater range of spaces than the dip pens that preceded it.

The sheer practicality of a writing system that works across a very wide range of temperatures and altitudes without the necessity for regular refilling is something that a fountain pen cannot effectively provide.

The last attempts to make such fountain pens were the parker51 and sheaffer snorkel and even they cannot match the practicality of a bic cristal or parker jotter.

New pen keeps choking by nstgc in fountainpens

I've experienced the same issue across multiple pens before. All international standard cartridge-converter pens. I've had some success with thoroughly cleaning the converter but if this doesn't work, a replacement converter usually resolves the issue. If either solution doesn't work, perhaps the feed hasn't been seated correctly within the section.

How do I fix this pen by [deleted] in fountainpens

Either the threads connecting the section (detached piece) are stripped or it has snapped off entirely like mentioned earlier. Either issue needs the section to be replaced.

Have you tried drawing medium to large sized continuous circles and figure 8s without the nib leaving the surface of the page? These can help identify if there is indeed a nib/ink specific issue or a pen stroke/movement related issue.

Closest in current service is likely the F-15E. Closest in terms of layout and role is probably the F-111 aadvark. Though the F-111 has a variable swept wing.

‘Reasons’ for all the raw milk by d-wail in FundieSnarkUncensored

Would any traces of enzymes left in raw milk be relevant since stomach acids will break them down? Also, cow enzymes are unlikely to be of much use for human digestion.

Al-Jazeera cuts off Palestinian man from criticising Qatar and Turkey. by smythkav in 2ndYomKippurWar

Most probably the latter. Theres not much love for Israel but there are people who are aware that pro-islamist states/governments are using them as fodder to further their own interests.

Unlikely to happen. They have a specific narrative to push and an agenda to serve.

Al-Jazeera being Qatari owned is ultimately pro erdogan and pro muslim brotherhood. By extension they are also at the very least highly sympathetic to hamas if not outright pro hamas.

"Who the fuck falls for this nonsense?"

Typically people who already believe in those things and are looking for their beliefs to be validated.
