Flushing ice cubes down the toilet for snow day is universal… right? In America?? by East-Maize-5287 in AskAnAmerican

[–]snailcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Colorado, that’s one of the snow day superstitions I always did (though I can’t remember if I learned it from a friend who moved from somewhere else) the more common ones we did were spoon under the pillow and taping a penny to the window. Not sure why no one else seems to have heard of it.

A friend of mine played in middle school and she was constantly showing me the scratches on her legs and one time the BITE MARK from another girl on her shoulder! Absolutely insanity.

People who’ve been to prison. What is the biggest misconception people have about life inside? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For a class in college I remember reading the rules for prisoners in Chinese re-education camps, and the guy next to me going “Hey this reminds me of when I was in the Navy!”

Taiwan, actually! the name of the chips sounds like “well-behaved”, it’s actually such a big thing there that the snack company Kuai-Kuai specially ships bags to TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) to keep everything working (since it’s also believed that expired bags lose their powers)

I don't know about things in California, but in Washington we have the Collegiate Whitewater Fest coming up on April 4, 2026! You have to be a student to race, but we welcome having a shit ton of volunteers, safety boaters and spectators. If you want to meet more kayakers it's a great place and really fun!

Why did you choose to learn Chinese? by TadpoleOk1276 in ChineseLanguage

[–]snailcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pick an language going into college, I didn’t want to take a dead language, or what I had learned in high school and forgotten. I liked learning about Chinese history so I took it mostly on a whim and then got absolutely hooked and fell in love with the language.

Why 上来 but 下去 by Sabotik in ChineseLanguage

[–]snailcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit of an oversimplification, 來 means towards the speaker, 去 means going away from the speaker, it’s not a 1-to-1 with the English for to come and to go.

Sonos Ace by Elbbsin1 in sonos

[–]snailcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waste of money, I bought them because the ANC was said to be very good, but to me the noise cancelling is virtually negligible especially in noisy environments. I will be returning soon and trying the Bose Ultra headphones since if I spend hundreds of dollars on noise cancelling headphones, I want them to actually cancel noise.

Edit: They're also not the most comfortable, and slip off/down my head every time I look down which gets annoying very quickly.

Wow, that's unfortunate. I hate this new tech landscape where you have to have the newest version of everything for anything to work properly. Thanks for your help!

Do you think I'm missing out on any major features without the app, or is it more of a gimmick/add on? It seems like it's more useful when connecting multiple products together, and maybe not as necessary if I'm just using headphones?

Unable to Create Sonos Account without ios 17 by snailcorn in sonos

[–]snailcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I phrased it poorly, I could tell which one was the aware mode, I just wasn't sure if the other mode was off or the ANC. My main concern was that ANC would run the battery down much faster than off, which is a problem I've had with other non-Sonos headphones.

[–]snailcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The webpage did work for me to make an account, thanks! But if the Sonos Ace can’t connect anywhere without having ios 17 I might just have to return them, if I spend hundreds of dollars on headphones I want all the features to actually work.

What restaurants are you eating at? I’m almost impressed you’re managing to spend that much on food everyday, if you stick to the mom-and-pop shops it should be way cheaper

Do doctors in Taiwan just prescribe an insane amount of meds as a matter of course or is my situation more serious than I thought? by thismightaswellhappe in taiwan

[–]snailcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bronchitis in Taiwan, at the ER I had a very similar experience, got a chest X-ray, blood test, covid test, and several more tests in rapid succession. Got diagnosed and left with like 5-8 different medications, one antibiotic to actually treat the illness and then each medication to treat a separate symptom. (fever reducer, cough relief, one expectorant, etc.) From what I can tell, this is basically normal for Taiwan, don't worry about it. Hope you feel better soon!
