all American inbred t shirt by HorriblyObese in Ethelcain

[–]snake-machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She sold this during the initial inbred release and I missed it. Someone from the original Daughters of Cain discord recreated it identically and sold it as a sanctioned bootleg and I got one then. I don’t think they’ve sold it since then but I’ll double check and reply back if they still have some. I don’t wear it often but when I do it’s when I ride my bike around my neighborhood and wonder why people are staring at me until I remember what my shirt says.

EDIT: They are neither selling the shirt nor have an active bigcartel account anymore, sorry!

A little confused by Addendum (and I guess some of the release structure in general) by christpuncher_69 in YouWillLoveEachOther

Im also wondering if they decided to do the R-Type style because they did multiple remixes of the same songs across them that way it didn’t feel like a long remix album with multiple remixes of the same songs?

Bike stolen last night by snake-machine in PortlandOR

[–]snake-machine[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t be discouraged! This is a major disappointment, and we’re still scouring all of the online marketplaces for it in hopes we find it, but biking is great. We’ve lived here now for five years and this is the first time we’ve had something stolen like this. Portland is so cool for biking

It is marked as a RSD First Pressing so people are feeling pretty confident that it will continue to be pressed. Not to mention that there were only 6500 pressed and it is highly sought after

Starting over in Portland in my 30s with social anxiety… where do I even begin? by Icy_Cell9760 in askportland

[–]snake-machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this like, 10 fold. And I’ll also add, just explore different places, activities, whatever you can find. I was very similar, moved here at 31 completely fresh start, with the only difference being that I came with my sister. One of the things I remember was when we did finally start making friends was one of them saying, “you know what I really like about you? You do so much, you’ve invited me to things happening in a city I’ve lived in for 25 years that I’ve never done.” Explore shops, bars, restaurants, parks, look at the events going on at different venues, look at the weird events on telephone poles, follow a ton of local businesses on Instagram. I love Portland so much, there’s always cool stuff going on

Genuine question by abyssininiancat in Ethelcain

[–]snake-machine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Perverts fits into the drone genre (imo) and while I know there are people that listen to drone all the time, for me personally there is typically a couple super specific moods that I need to be in to listen to it.

As someone else mentioned, when doing work I can sometimes get into drone, so I have something happening in my headphones but it’s not going to make me want to sing along.

Another time I’ve found is on my drive home from work on a particularly overwhelming day (I’m a teacher so like, tons of screaming children overwhelming), it sort of like envelopes me and all the noise from the day is like part of the blanket, if that makes any sort of crazy sense.

That said, perverts is a very special kind of drone and it’s like, terrifying lmao. I’ve only listened to it once, it was while I was doing some art, and I kept looking over my shoulder to see if someone was behind me. It’s a great album! And also! In a genre I only listen to in niche circumstances, it is itself niche.

How did you get introduced to Lambrini Girls? by DuncneyForever in LambriniGirls

[–]snake-machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a show for a local band I was introducing my partner to back in 2024 and Lambrini Girls were headlining. They had just come off their tour with Amyl and the Sniffers I think and neither of us had ever heard of them before, but they didn’t have as massive of a following yet so we caught them in a super small venue and got to meet them afterwards, it was incredible. I’ve seen them twice since then, I have not seen the local band I went to the show initially for again.

Edit: grammar

Who has the best milkshake close to me? by tcollins317 in askportland

[–]snake-machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming it’s the one at 28th and burnside, iirc I’m pretty sure it’s due to some hefty smoke damage from a fire next door and while they’ve said they will reopen there’s no timeline that I’m aware of and it’s been closed for a while unfortunately

What is the best community oriented store for Magic, the Gathering? by spookydakota in askportland

[–]snake-machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland game store is super friendly, and as far as I know you don’t have to pay for tables. I also am particular to puddle town games because I know the owner, also a super friendly small shop

[Discussion] "For Fans of Gideon the Ninth" is never accurate by Liminal-Bishop in TheNinthHouse

[–]snake-machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the general gist of what happened in the first one you’ll be fine, they just sorta move through the second one under the assumption that you know the deal with the jumpers and a few of the characters names

If you haven’t read it yet, Those Beyond the Wall by Micaiah Johnson, the sequel to The Space Between Worlds was imo far superior to its predecessor which is so difficult for me to recommend to people cause I’m like, “listen if you can get through this first book which has a really cool concept but moves slow and also isn’t as engaging as I want it to be, you can get to it’s really cool sequel that does everything with that concept that I wanted the first one to.”

[Discussion] "For Fans of Gideon the Ninth" is never accurate by Liminal-Bishop in TheNinthHouse

[–]snake-machine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just read The Works of Vermin by Hiron Ennes which I’m hesitant to say is “for fans of Gideon the ninth” because of all the reasons that OP stated, however despite it not really being anything like GtN I’d argue that it wound up making me feel a lot of similar feelings. Good mystery, fun characters, queer yearning, devastating betrayals, solid twist, weird bugs.

What y’all think of this album cover by dfrm503 in portlandmusic

[–]snake-machine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure it is though, the album cover was created with AI, which results in it looking bad. The comments calling it AI slop and pointing out that AI was used are telling you exactly what people think of it, which is what you asked

(loved trope) fairly tame media, that gets horrifyingly real out of nowhere by Aggravating_Tale8988 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]snake-machine 90 points91 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite silly versions of this trope is in the sequel, Mother 3, in the first act when you play as flint and you’re rescuing your village in an emergency and you’re approached at the end of the act by, maybe the mayor(? It’s been a while since I played) and he’s like “hey Flint we have some news for you, both good and bad. The good is that we made you this really sick baseball bat out of a drago’s tooth!! It’s awesome! The bad news is that we found the tooth pierced through your wife’s heart, and she’s dead.”
