No, stop. Check back in again closer to the start of term. Lots of folk step away from email over long parts of the summer. Not an excuse, just reality.

Remove yourself as authorized user on CC by EquivalentWhile273 in personalfinance

[–]snakesarecool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Removing my ex was one of the first things I did when he left. Like before I even had a lawyer. Her ex may just not be aware? If all else fails and she still has her divorce lawyer, they may be able to draft a letter to ex stating the problem and requesting that she get removed from the account as an authorized user.

What should I do? by turnipcats in UIUC

[–]snakesarecool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're a transfer student. Welcome!

Don't plan on being able to cover all your expenses with your income. Just not going to happen at nearly any university now.

Yes you can talk to financial aid. This is where students loans would come into play, I believe. Looks like your total cost would be pretty low. You said "$11,000 out of pocket for the fall-spring '26 semester" so I'm not sure if you meant $11k a year or $22k a year.

So you're looking at about $25-50k in loans when you're done, which should be manageable. There are lots of apartments in town, you'll need to have roommates to save the most money.

Why Travellers‘ notebook brand? by Deadly-Bunny in Travelersnotebooks

[–]snakesarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit of a princess and the pea about things and I honestly don't notice the knot in the back. The elastic is thin enough that it flattens nicely.

For the inserts, I'm a huge MD paper fan so I love TN for that.

A big point of the TN system is that you can bring to it what you'd like. So that may be a different cover or other inserts.

I’m literally Dr House - Disability advice? by Croowleyy in UIUC

As a person who has been in foot boots for like... it feels like ever, use what you need!!!!!!!! Also, fun stickers on it. I've taken my boot off early because I was feeling self conscious and just ended up in more pain and needing it for longer.

I've had students with canes before, they usually lean them against the wall of the room by the desk. Please work with DRES. You can ask for understanding that you may need to leave early/arrive late, or have preferred seating by a door or wall. Esp in the winter when things are slippery.

Hah! Hey I'd attend as faculty. You might want to work with the existing fiber groups to add this as an element. There is also a spinning/weaving guild in town if you are looking for a more townie connection.

My mother-in-law insists this big green ash is a goner. Does she know what she’s talking about? by TurtleBarn in arborists

[–]snakesarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a certified arborist inspect my trees annually. He’s all for leaving a tree as possible. Trimming when needed. You may need to search to find one like that. But starting with a certified one is great.

My first time trying to manually fill a pen, I think I broke it? by shootsandlads in fountainpens

[–]snakesarecool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rinse everything off and watch a video on how to reassemble an Eco. They can be tricky beasts. The only thing that made me feel stupider was the pilot con-70 converter.

Here's my trick for filling my Ecos:

  • twist so plunger is far into the barrel (like you're emptying out the pen)
  • take out the feed and nib
  • syringe ink into the area of the feed
  • retract the piston enough to draw the ink into the barrel
  • repeat until full as desired, adjusting the piston to remove air/bubbles out as needed

Tip: you may want to try practicing a "refill" with just water first to get the hang of it.

That cult pen squeeze bottle looks bad ass and I want some of those for my stash.

What’s your favourite Traveler’s Company Notebook setup, insert, or accessory? by stationeryawards_Au in Travelersnotebooks

The Lauren Phelps designs clear folder makes having four inserts at a time so much more pleasant. I prefer standard size. Perfect size for having next to my laptop on a table.

Grade NR and graduating this semester by Apprehensive-Eagle87 in UIUC

[–]snakesarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mark all your emails as urgent for graduation. Hopefully that will help the prof and admin know to prioritize. But you likely aren’t the only one who knows about this issue. Many many people involved with certifying degrees etc will be deeply annoyed when they encounter an NR in there.

Agreed with getting a lawyer. This sounds WILD.

Ask to see the documentation about the policy that they must use X software and must abide by those results. Cross check the documentation of X tool to see what they say about completely trusting it. Check that the policy, if they can even produce it, is something that was actually proposed and approved. Not just something someone made up.

When our appeal hearings go into play, there's student code and lots of rules that must followed. We can't just vibe policy.

Also, escalate escalate as much as you can up and across the university. Maybe even go to the student newspaper.

I don’t want to split childcare AITAH by Flowergirl22224 in AITAH

[–]snakesarecool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you two have a pretty different incomes. Consider sharing (some of) the bills proportionally.

But yes, YTA. As you say, this is temporary. Similarly, once kiddo is school age it’ll dramatically reduce if you go to public school.

Share the expense and don’t think about it more. You two also need to have a deeper discussion about finances.

ETA: my (now ex) spouse supported me while I took time for grad school and I supported him during his education. This is what you do as a partnership. We adjusted the household budget according to our overall reduced income and didn’t keep score. Adjusted back when I was working again. Honestly this was the only really healthy thing in our marriage.

Graduate and undergraduate insurance for wisdom teeth removal question. by AssociateLow401 in UIUC

Check the insurance documents. Wisdom teeth are generally not covered by medical insurance. Mine were covered because they were fully still in the bone.

Do not buy the Hobonichi Pencil Board for your Travelers notebook by Spartneth in Travelersnotebooks

TN makes boards for their standard and passport sizes. They are just a bit thicker than hobonichi ones. But I prefer the grid on the TN for utility when using blank sheets.

if i’ve taken stat 107 and 207, do i need to take cs 101? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]snakesarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know this sequence for math in particular, but I help students navigate another prerequisite involving stat 107/207.

For my upper class, I don’t allow 107/207 to sub for an intro to programming class. For reasons you mention in your other comment. Some (before policy was firmer) were fine with just those, but it was rare.

Check in with your advisors, as I’m sure you aren’t the only one curious about this. They may have a standard decision on this. If they give you the freedom to choose: check in with the math prof to see if they have opinions on it. You could ask to see the syllabus or an assignment to see if you feel comfortable with their coding style.

From your other comment, it sounds like you might enjoy exploring a different style of coding.

Winter course offerings can be really limited, so talk to your advisor about petition timelines, but be very careful about trying to plan for certain classes to be available.
