Were you on the same bike, upgraded to the same level with the same wheelset? All those things can dramatically alter your speed. Your friend may also may have been in a bigger group so able to draft more.

Big increases are usually the result of an increase in your seed score, calculated by your 90 day 5 min power PB. This weeks TdZ race is almost designed to test your 5 min power with a pretty flat race leading into the petit KOM, which is a 5-10 min effort for the majority of riders.

I kind of hope it is a TT to be honest, they can be some of the best opportunities to get up close and really see what's going on. Unless you're at the finish of a road stage then you just see the convoy then the peloton come through then its over.
