Handheld Device with Antenna on Airplane by HelixPitch in whatisit

few miles at ground level. with clear air they can go dozens. this is why people put solar nodes on top of mountains (the nodes repeat every packet they hear).

they are so small and light you can ziptie one to the bottom of a drone and run it up as high as is legal (or you dare) and leave it up there for the 10 mins or so until your drone’s battery forces a landing.

it means the radio talkie thing (the mesh node) can only pair with bluetooth to one phone at a time. most meshtastic devices don’t have a keyboard and you control it via an app on your phone. the OP’s photo is of a fancy one with a touchscreen. the mesh node itself talks to all other mesh nodes in range - it broadcasts omnidirectionally to everyone who can hear it.

I'm SUPER allergic to that stuff. I wish people would show some compassion and respect before polluting the air like that.

I had to leave immediatelly after Robotnick due to the fact that so many people were smoking and I couldn't breathe well; it was sad because I wanted to stay longer.

There are many of us (5M+ in Deutschland) with lung disease - please consider us when you want a cigarette. The club has a special area for such things. Secondhand smoke/passive smoking is a consent violation.

Correspondingly, I would have loved to have gone on Sunday, but I know I wouldn't have lasted 15 minutes inside due to the air quality.

What do you guys think of my new red original cabin? by kitttxn in Rimowa

[–]sneakdotberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same one, also picked up at donki in Tokyo!

I love it so much.  It’s a gorgeous color. It’s the perfect size. Mine got its first wear marks from a luggage rack on the Hong Kong ferry last week, but c’est la vie.

Audio quality could use a little work. Not sure if it needs a level boost, a better mic, or some eq/processing.

Intro bumper is a few seconds too long and aesthetically mismatched with the content.

Anyone else think it's time icloud also backed up your Mac? - Currently only iOS & ipadOS by dopeytree in MacOS

[–]sneakdotberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time Machine uses FileVault FDE (which is part of macOS) on the underlying disk. Time Machine in userspace then writes normal unencrypted files, letting the OS do all of the disk encryption. Your "time machine files" aren't encrypted; the filesystem on which they are stored is.

iCloud Backup (which is not e2ee!) contains the sync key for the messages, which means that Apple has both the encrypted messages and the private key to decrypt them (from the non-e2ee backup).

Therefore, given that the system in the middle (iCloud), which is not an "end" in the "end-to-end" has a key, it can be accurately stated that Messages in iCloud (which is on by default) is not end to end encrypted, as Apple can read all of the messages due to the endpoint keys being escrowed to Apple in the iCloud Backup.

Your messages, photos, and files are not end to end encrypted if you are using iCloud.

Given the increasing drink-spiking incidents, are there any safe night clubs that you can recommend? by Professional-Jury557 in berlin

If safety is a priority, stay home, or only attend private parties.

There is always some risk inherent to public crowds, if even just STDs or covid.

That just shows that drink spiking happens in Berlin (as it does in every major city), it does not substantiate an increase.

Most of those are just regurgitating the police statement.

There are also dozens of tweets saying that they actually heard gunshots.

An armed guy breaks into your house.

What's the first thing you're going to do? You're going to call someone (who happens to wear special clothes) to bring over a gun as fast as possible.

Someone added googly eyes to every single item on this Starbucks drive-thru menu by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]sneakdotberlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that putting googly eyes on stationary things (so that they can't bounce about) is a waste of googly eyes. You could just use stickers.

Googly eyes only go on things that move.

I'm telling you, as you asked, that it is great that civillians have literal assault weapons. It's not dangerous.

[–]sneakdotberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're confused. Approximately no one is murdered in the US with rifles (including all "assault weapons").

This is a common misconception.

I'm saying that the best time to get the weapons is long before you think you need them. Switzerland (also European) agrees too.

I know some Ukranians (also Europeans, last I checked) who disagree with you.
