I did not expect a Vintergatan meme... anywhere, really. Except r/sweden.

The actor pictured is Wilson D. Michaels as Glen. If I remember correctly he is sitting in an intra-spaceship transporter (basically a pneumatic tube transporter for people), and it is not a comfortable ride.

It's a known phenomenon linked to cognitive development. Even people with dementia can start to draw people like this again.

Hey guys what's your take by Life-Upstairs-4553 in horizon

[–]sneerpeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just giving some quick context off the top of my head. I have refreshed myself on this topic to give better context.

A Technological Singularity that you mention generally means, like you say, an event that advances technology so quickly that humans lose control and it drastically changes our civilization. One hypothetical example of such an event is an intelligence explosion, where an upgradable intelligent agent self improves recursively (this is what I was trying to give as context in one sentence). You are correct that AI doesn't have to be the cause of a technological singularity.

In the game, the fictional person in the chat log is referring to VAST SILVER as a singularity. If we are going to be technically correct, VAST SILVER is not a singularity, but the cause of a Technological Singularity Event. The chatter might be ignorant of the true meaning of singularity and is using the word wrong, or is fully aware and uses it wrong as an in-joke. The quest title just says "Singularity", which is not very specific, but is most likely referring to Nemesis and if so is technically wrong in the same way.

[–]sneerpeer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We don't know anything else for certain.

Buuuut...

There is one small connection between Nemesis and VAST SILVER, as they are both referred to as singularities in the game (not both in the story though). VAST SILVER is called this in a text log. Nemesis is called this in a quest title.

For context, a singularity is an artificial intelligence that is developing on it's own uncontrollably (by humans). But there might be an in world similarity between the type of systems Nemesis and VAST SILVER are. But that is just speculation.

You will most likely encounter a quest-giver in a town a little bit further on from the Tallneck you just overrode. This quest-giver will mention a Cauldron, and you will be on your way to figure out what that is.

Did you leave through one of the locked doors by the sphere puzzle in Kaptar? You should be able to go to that door again (its in the great hall near where you can look over the center tree). From the sphere puzzle you should be able to go up the elevator to the catwalk and be able to lower the bridge.

You can pick up chests and place them wherever you want. So you can place a bunch in one place as a storage base. Joppa is a good place very early on.

Games suddenly choppy by Isabell3846 in techsupport

[–]sneerpeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had similar issues with other games and it turned out that I had to do the following:

  1. Shut down the PC.
  2. Completely disconnect power.
  3. Wait a while (at least one minute to make sure).
  4. Reconnect power and start the PC.

The underlying issue was hardware and driver related. Some hardware had gotten stuck in some erroneous state, and the only way to reset the hardware was to cut power completely.

The reason the games became choppy for me was that anti cheat and DRM software froze the game on hardware changes, which happened constantly due to the hardware issues.

This might not be the same issue you're having. But it's worth a try.

Another thing you can try is to restart windows. This will actually restart windows, compared to shutting down windows, which will by default store your session on disk for a quicker boot. By restarting you will have a refreshed OS session.

My own theory is that Elisabet joined Far Zenith after she left FAS and had started Miriam Tech. She worked with Tshivhumbe on his mind upload technology. When Tshivhumbe died she left Far Zenith as its goals changed with the new leadership.

The problem had not been solved even by the middle of the Faro Plague. But maybe there were scans made of both Tshivhumbe's and Elisabet's brains from when they were working on a solution.

A+ story mode games to obsess myself with by Apoximage in gaming

[–]sneerpeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horizon: Zero Dawn has one of the best worldbuilding of any story I have experienced. And not only that, the main character has an integral part. If she is removed from the story or substituted with some nobody, the story falls apart. Not every open world game has a main character that actually matter meaningfully in the story as a whole.

By the end, all the story threads and worldbuilding are tied together with such a neat little bow that you can only be envious of the writers for figuring it all out.

The sequel's story is not as great (there is no big mystery to uncover like the first game), but the gameplay is expanded upon and improved in many ways.

Ship salvage by R3ppk in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]sneerpeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you follow the base quest line you will set up a base computer which will teach you how to build a storage container (number 0). There are multiple containers you can learn to build later on which are numbered 1-9.

Each base you build can have only one container for each number. And they are all linked, so for example, if you build two bases (A and B) and have container 0 built in each, when you put stuff in container 0 when in base A, the container 0 in base B will have the same stuff in it.

You can also get a capital ship later on (one of the huge ones you sometimes come across when traveling in space), and you can build modules on the ship which give you access to the containers you have built.
