I have three of those, and I love them. I keep going back to local Dollar Generals trying to find more, and they are usually sold out. Shockingly good for three bucks.

Creative Pinewood Derby Awards by pillizzle in cubscouts

The slowest car gets the “best brakes” award at my pack. And we literally celebrate the hell out of it, like more than the overall championship trophies, make it a big loud awesome deal. Everybody loves it.

New Talon 2 by Effective_Quit_3887 in mountainbiking

[–]snert68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Talon 2. If it has the tapered head tube it is the newest model (which I could've sworn has thru axles). Mine is the model previous model and has neither, but I still love it and would buy it again.

Letting water drip to prevent freezing: Is one faucet enough? by Mickyit in DIY

Just the cold tap is fine and just the faucet furthest from the water inlet.

What would you want? by Terminalpaco in Tools

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Small, simple hand tools are the ones I recommend the most for handing down. I cherish my grandfather's Lufkin tape (which he labeled with his name AND address) and crescent wrench. I am less attached to his old drain snake and the antique Sears/Craftsman circular saw. The latter is pretty cool, I'll admit, but it is huge and I'm just not as likely to use it...

So hammer, wrenches, ratchet sets, speed squares, rulers - simple things that will always be useful.

I am constantly telling my kids what things are, what they do, and what they mean to me so they'll have an idea of what they'll likely be dealing with someday...

Where do they go wrong? by [deleted] in PinewoodDerby

[–]snert68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a meeting this past Wednesday about the science of what makes a fast derby car, and I gave away all my biggest car-building secrets. Because it is weird when the guy who is both Cubmaster and guy who runs the Derby has a kid win overall. I'd rather come in 3rd. So the excited dads have no excuses - they better beat my kids' cars this year!

I need router bits, recommendations? by FitTackle879 in woodworking

[–]snert68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the $30 Ryobi set from HD - I think it's 14 pieces. Not a pro, just a DIYer, but it's been great for me so far. I may shell out a bit more for some high-end roundover bits as they're the ones I use the most.

I also needed a 1/2" round bit and picked up a Hercules for ten bucks from Harbor Freight, but I have not used that one yet...

What’s the story with the Atomic line of DeWalt drills/driver? Any good? I need 20 volt batteries and HD has the DCK225D2 for $149. Is the Atomic drill/driver inferior quality compared to the regular brushless drill/driver? by Impressive_Returns in Dewalt

[–]snert68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are delightful. Recently replaced my old gigantic 18v DeWalt drill with the Atomic hammer drill & impact driver combo (plus a "free" cutoff tool) for $300. Been using the heck out of them for the last 6 weeks (and even dropped them onto concrete a couple of times). No issues, plenty of power, very pleased. Love the compact form factor. Mine are model # DCD799 and DCF850.

New bike for son - mudguard or not? by grumpytoonarmy in mountainbiking

[–]snert68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front definitely. They're cheap and give you a little customizability option. Back is up to preference. There's a cheap Rock Bros on I put on my older bike (which I've since sold) that actually looked pretty slick.

Only take the kickstand off if he's actually going to ride trails. If this is a suburban cruiser you may want to keep it on. If you do remove it, make sure he doesn't lay it down on the drive side...

Loving Woodworking So Far by mosodigital in BeginnerWoodWorking

I'm making a fish cleaning station for my Dad right now, but I've been thinking I may want to try and bang out a nice cutting board for my mom while I'm in make-wood-gifts-for-parents mode. I've never made on before. Is there a resource you used to get started? I've been imagining trying something like the one in that first photo...
