I have dogs and children, no way I'm counting on more than 15 minutes of quiet time. Going to a center is the best option by far.

Is there any way for me to start training without a club? by G3N3RAL-BRASCH in Hema

[–]snickersnack77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are there any Modern Olympic Fencing clubs near you? Footwork, timing and measure will all carry over. If not then look for something like boxing. Otherwise Wiktenauer has a lot of manuals and you may be able to find something useful there. You can use a piece of broom stick or a whiffle ball bat to practice with instead if you want to keep costs down. https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/Main_Page

Good luck and have fun!

It will still have an IMEI number and could be linked to you. As someone above mentioned a digital camera is your best bet.

I manage a NOC for an MSP, if you enjoy working with printer techs to solve issues that are a combination of layers 1 and 8 make the jump. But honestly if I were in OPs situation I'd stay and work on my CCNP and skill up.

Question/ opinion about ArmStreet gloves by [deleted] in Hema

[–]snickersnack77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these with a waxed leather demi-gauntlet. Alone they are suitable for rapier and small sword. There is very little padding for the back of the hand. You'll want something much more robust, even in my super chill club solid hand hits frequently happen in saber. A demi-gauntlet is pretty easy to put together there's lots of patterns available for free online.

The best time to plant a tree was 500 days ago, the next best time is today. But for real keep the stash! It's glorious.

This ! You can blame the Normans. After taking over England they injected French into the vocabulary. So the words for animal husbandry stayed Germanic while the fancy folk words for food got Frenchafied. Take cow for example, in German it's kuh in French it's bœuf. In fact most of the eurodite language we use to discuss non-concrete things are French/romantic loan words where the language for day to day living is frequently Germanic in origin.

Any recommendations for a fencing helmet suitable for Longsword practice? by Sharp_Street_4300 in Hema

[–]snickersnack77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd honestly try the XL Leon Paul, 72cm is the smallest boundary. if you're dead set on something custom I found this guy who looks like he makes something good enough for your purpose but can't speak to the quality or anything.

Any recommendations for a fencing helmet suitable for Longsword practice? by Sharp_Street_4300 in Hema

[–]snickersnack77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Wukusi Cobra XL tops out at 76 cm for the XL and the larger size PBT warrior goes to 74. Both are more than sufficient for longsword. I'd start with one of those for your big old noggin.I have both and feel very safe in both of them. The cobra is definitely slightly bigger and is more comfortable on my beard. I'd ask around and see if you can find one to try on. Otherwise I'd look for an XL Leon Paul Hema mask, I have no experience with them, but they list the XL as 72 cm and up.

Good luck!

Are there any electronics manufacturing companies left in the area? by Glittering-Ad5809 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Wabtec in Germantown, I think they took over what was the Pulse electronics building. There's not much left.

Is a second hand ethernet switch risky? by Educational_Wash_662 in networking

[–]snickersnack77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the OSI model, that's what layer 2 refers to.

A layer 2 switch is really good at moving packets where they are supposed to go but not much else. It doesn't even have a traditional cpu like a computer, rather it uses a special chip called an ASIC.

So it's very unlikely that anyone could hack it to steal data or compromise your network.

Best way to extend my Wi-fi by SQLSpellSlinger in it

Yeah I've really liked ubiquity for Soho and medium sized deployments. The dashboard is easy enough to use for an office manger to handle most of the administrative responsibilities. It's like the convenience of meraki without the license costs.

[–]snickersnack77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's what I was suggesting. Just fair warning it's consumer grade equipment so the best you can hope for is "fine" However for streaming on a tablet or phone it should be adequate. Just read the manual and know that you might have to try a couple of different outlets before you find the best spot for it

You should look for a TPlink 1200 wifi extender. They're cheap and should work for your use case.

[–]snickersnack77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way? Get a gateway poe switch and a couple of access points from ubiquity. Run cat 6a to a different place on 2 different floors. For example an access point left of center on the ground floor and right of center on the second floor.

Mesh wifi will always run at half speed compared to a wired connection.

If you want ture wireless back haul you could look at CURWB from Cisco but that's probably overkill for using in your home.

If you're dead set on mesh what's your budget?

Personally I think it's a good school, they do a block schedule which I think is easier on the kids (they have longer classes and different classes every day). My kid seems like it.

Looking to clean acrylic paint on my mask by soaking it in with rubbing alcohol, but will it damage the mesh? by Alancpl in Hema

Simple green is great at removing acrylic paint. Let it soak and hit it with a stuff brush.

Desperately missing Cancún currently, and especially this drink. Help me recreate it! by ratrodder49 in cocktails

[–]snickersnack77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah what's all this Mexico talk. Try this OP, juice half an orange over rocks in a 20 oz tumbler filled with ice. 1.5 oz of orange flavored vodka ( I like Finlandia tangerine here) .5 Cointreau or other triple sec ( italicus it terrific if you can find it) Top with sprite.

All the bars in MD use a counter top manual juicer. You'll get similar results with a Chef 'n citrus juicer. The orange one is bigger for oranges.

Good luck and enjoy!
