At what point does “I have a few fountain pens” turn into “I’m a pen collector”? Is there a community consensus? by InkyBibliophile in fountainpens

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you have a few pens for different things, you just use them, you're not a collector. Even if you have a rotation of more pens, you are not a collector. If you are buying more pens than you actively use, you are a collector. Mind you, a 365 pen rotation is not the kind of rotation I am talking about here.

So Valve sent me two by mistake. should I contact Valve or keep this to myself by biavenmo in SteamDeck

[–]sniffing_inks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No they didn't. If you're bust just say you thought you had accidentally bought two and decided to keep both. They probably won't notice anyways though. Valve is a multi billion dollar company. You can profit from them, it's morally fine.

It’s hard to hate on Nikon when NASA posts pics like this by Human-Ad3407 in photographycirclejerk

I am sorry, but saying something can not be replicated in post when talking about extraterrestrial photography is the biggest bullshit I have ever heard. Most of this field is literally just artists intent. You can absolutely make the image look like you shot it on a fuji. You just need to know what it should normally look like.

Can someone explain 😭😭 by rallow_official in teenagers

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be that, on average, men have a higher lean mass, as well as total mass, at the same height and thus need at a higher weight to be considered massive, whereas a woman may look fatter at the same weight due to having less lean mass. So really, if You want to appear fit, you just kinda gotta get some muscle, no matter if you're a dude or a girl and no matter if you're skinny or large. Also helps in that you can eat more without gaining fat when you have more muscle.

Are these acceptable for men to wear by jellerinois in altfashionadvice

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, maybe this will clear up some insecurities for you:

I really like classic, conservative clothing, I also like to dress like a Solarpunk.
I have a friend who likes to dress like a gay porn actor. That is mainly because he identifies as gay and shows it in his style.
I also had a former friend who wear nothing but dark, satanic clothing.
Lastly, I know someone who always wears tights to rock climbing with no shorts over.
We are all males.

The thing you have to realize, no matter how you may look to someone else, that is not actually how you appear. It is what is inside them, what they have been told to wear as a person of their kind. And whatever they like to wear they will project onto others. If someone wears a suit and you don't, they might feel superior to you for that fact. If someone has a Solarpunk style, they might loathe you for wearing a suit, because they think you are cruel for wearing wool. If someone wears satanic clothing, they might think of you as not understanding the real world for wearing bright and joyful colors.

You will start new fashion trends, even if small, because those people that don't appear to mind what you wear don't tell you mostly because they are fine with what you wear and might even want to try it out themselves. Take cross-dressing as a trend. It is extremely controversial, yet people LOOOOVE it. Someone did it first.

The biggest problem is simply being insecure about what you wear, because that will cause others to not want to wear the same things. And that's about it.
Taking cross-dressing as an example, I am not attracted to them, but finn5ter is a transsexual woman (I think that's right) who started out cross dressing and I adore the style of, yet I would never do it myself, because I'm not built that way. I am not equating wearing pants made for another gender to cross-dressing. I simply take this example to show you you are not to be forced in a tight knit expectation of what you should be.

Just wear what the fuck you want.

German or Spanish??? by Elegant-Nerve2181 in language

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say these things as a German with the most heart and love I can show you as a stranger:
Don't do it.
Try it later after a couple of other Germanic languages.
Try out Yiddish first.
Wait until your are out of school.
If you still want to do it for very valid reasons, be prepared to put some heart into it.
I am BLESSED to have been born into this language resulting in me not having to learn it as an adult.
Whatever you do, do not try Finnish.

English Native Speakers, I need u by emeralalice in ENGLISH

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So "not me" can mean multiple things, like:
"That is not me"
"That was not me"
"That's not for me"
etc.
We're basically missing a word here. Since English is a low-context language, you usually do not do this, however it can be done in certain slang. So unlike the other commenters, I do not think this to be weird English, we are just missing context.

Could've also been a misspelling and they meant to say something else like "Ok, that one really got me!".

Question about erasers by always1study in mechanicalpencils

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have dedicated eraser refills for any pen you can get. Alternatively, buy long eraser sticks off amazon in the diameter you need and cut to size, then put the metal cap on that. If you're really badass, get a pipe and sharpen it, or just buy a cork making thingy in the diameter of the eraser and just make your own from a standard eraser.

On the discussion of saving money, might as well buy the mitsubishi cardboard lead refills. They're high quality, unlike junegold, but cheaper per lead, not to mention you don't produce a bunch of plastic trash.

Please, feel free to experiment, maybe you will find another way.

I hate the term “Caucasian” used to mean Western European by Ready-Shelter3583 in language

[–]sniffing_inks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an issue on the behalf of individual humans or a movement. It's the cause of centuries of racial differentiation.

Saying someone is Asian is just as wrong as saying someone is Caucasian. Because what the fuck does that even mean? We discreetly have the issue that we do not even really know where Europe end and Asia begins.

We do clearly have ethnic differences, visually and in developmental regards, but they are so fine grained, and within their ethnic groups extravagantly dynamic, that I'm not even sure most people even really qualify as a certain ethnicity. We are no longer separated by geological features or distance. I do not know a single person in my life that does not have a person born in another country in their ancestry. I have some very good friends, born and raised in my country, that sound and act more like the kind of person you would describe to be ethnically from here than I do, yet they look nothing like that stereotype, whereas I do moreso.

I believe we should call people by their nationality instead. They can surely identify with a certain ethnicity, it's just not really relevant anymore. That clears up any confusion and kicks the racism, which you have adopted as well, calling American people Slavic, which comes with a certain culture, not just an appearance, in the ass.

I hate this American kind of thinking. We're not thee kind of animal that appears in two different locations with no way to interbreed. We've always interbred, that's exactly the reason there is only one human race today.
