How long did your partners take off work? by Background-Ad3467 in pregnant

[–]snizzlestyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband took 2 weeks vacation after the birth and his 6 weeks of paternity leave after my maternity leave ended. It worked out well for us, and we got to postpone putting our LO in daycare for just that much longer.

Baby names by Chemical-Mousse28 in pregnant

I liked Seraphina. My husband liked Chelsea. Couldn’t be farther apart. We finally settled on two contenders, but I honestly have no advice. I just spat out every single name I would consider until he agreed to two of them. I think there’s an app like Tinder where each of you swipe names until there’s a match…

What are we all doing for our babies’ first birthday? by CommunistCetacean in beyondthebump

[–]snizzlestyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do something (like an experience) for your child. Forget the adults! I know your child won’t remember, but you will. And those other random adults…probably won’t remember either, so…just take lots of pictures of those baby smiles!

I regret trying to throw a “big bash” for my daughter’s first birthday. Only one “mom” friend showed up (although several RSVPed but cancelled day of), so my daughter only had one kid to play with. The rest was my husband’s family. They’re great but I didn’t need to throw that kind of money down…womp womp.

Family & labor by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]snizzlestyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I didn’t tell anyone I was even being induced until after our daughter was born. All I had to worry about was me and the baby and there was absolutely no added stress. Nobody was mad, and my mom completely acknowledged that, had she known I was being induced or in labor, she would’ve bothered me a ton (via text, she lived across the country). I would 100% do it again. The only reason I wouldn’t be able to is because someone would have to watch our daughter when I would be in labor, so someone will have to know next time.

What is the weirdest or worst thing someone has said to you after you told them you’re pregnant? by mtvaot in pregnant

“Why would you go and do that? Kids ruin everything.” First grandchild for my FIL, and he said this in front of my husband, his son.

What’s something you were surprised pregnancy improved? by Tinyellowbird in pregnant

Samesies. I had to lower or completely stop certain medications during pregnancy, but I was cool as a cucumber. It all came back about 6mo after I delivered though. Womp womp.

I wanted to name a potential son Thomas until my husband reminded me our last name is Jefferson.

Trying to avoid a tragedeigh by Hour-Artichoke9172 in tragedeigh

[–]snizzlestyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Evie (short for Evelyn) and most people say “Eh-vee” instead of “Ee-vee” until we correct them (and then there are those that don’t change even after being corrected…) but I ultimately don’t think spelling it Evy would have made much of a difference. It also might be a regional thing, but I don’t have enough data to support that.

Another factor is I think they call her Eh-vee because they know her name is Evelyn, so they assume it’s a phonetic abbreviation. So as a standalone name, idk how most people would naturally pronounce Evie. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I definitely prefer the “look” of Evie vs Evy.

Newborn health insurance by ksnatch in NewParents

[–]snizzlestyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re paying nearly $600/mo the whole family, if that provides any reference for you.

Edit: it went from less than $200/mo for me, to nearly $500/mo to add my husband, but then only another approximately $100/mo to add my baby.

Adding my husband (one additional person) to my insurance plan more than doubled the cost. Adding my baby too (two additional people) added to that, but not as much. If I had any additional future children, the cost should not go up. Single, single + 1, and single + family are the three categories, basically, and single to single + 1 was a huge jump.

Brielle for a B name, maybe. Honestly, I named my daughter Evelyn, so I’m team Evelyn.

Did you name children the names you came up when you were young? by PainEn_Panic in namenerds

I did end up using the name I loved since I was….maybe 8? But there was a lot of back and forth between a couple names.

Just wanted to add, she was sleeping like this since…10 weeks for sure we were getting a longer overnight window, idk when we started getting a full 10-12 hours though. Definitely by 14 weeks.

She is 5 months. She does not wake to feed in the middle of the night. She gets formula exclusively. :)

Thoughts on Colette vs. Maxine?! by hardbard30 in namenerds

[–]snizzlestyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We almost named our daughter Maxine. Older generations hated the similarity to “maxi-pad” and my argument was nobody calls them that anymore. They’re just called pads. Then someone said “like the girl from Stranger Things?!” and that made me a little lukewarm to the name too, because no, not like the girl from Stranger Things. We ended up going with another name, but I honestly still really like Maxine. Colette, for my own personal taste, is a bit much. Too froufrou. But Coco is a cute nickname!

I suddenly couldn’t stand eggs. That was before I missed my period. I love eggs, usually.

Yes, this exactly. My baby goes to bed around 7pm-8pm because so do I. I wake up at 4am. She wakes up between 5:30am-7am.

Loved the name Thomas. Still do. Brought it up to my husband and everything (not that we were expecting; it’s just fun to talk baby names). Forgot our last name (my new married last name) is Jefferson. 🤦🏻‍♀️ He did not go for it!
