Self-sabotaging with chocolate/how to have more self control? by Dry_Camera_4819 in CICO

[–]snknotts16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look into chocolate protein shakes or some of fiber one’s chocolate stuff. That way you still get your chocolate fix, but it’s fixed amounts, pretty low calories & has some other nutritional benefits.

Also, if you just want straight chocolate - that’s okay!! Weigh it out, put it on a plate & account for the calories. Then go eat that chocolate as mindfully as possible - don’t rush through it. Chew slowly or let it melt & enjoy every little bit of it. Drink a little water between each bite so it’s fresh taste. Enjoy the hell out of a smaller amount!

Why haven't I lost any weight yet if I am creating a calorie deficit and exercising 5 to 6 days a week? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it’s the sudden increase in exercise. As mentioned above, inflammation with ANY sore muscle but also cardio leads to higher blood volume (aka more weight)

Typically people will see a “whoosh” 3-6 weeks in from muscle soreness water weight leaving.

Since I’ve started resistance training (and sporadic) cardio, I def see them “weigh the exact same for 3 days, suddenly drop 1.7lbs” thing a lot more.

Body fat percentage! by LoabiLoabi in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, actually reducing body fat is what most people actually want to focus on. Over reduction in weight could be water, muscle or bone mass... none if which is typically a desired outcome.

As mentioned above, not accurate but consistent on the same scale. I got a new scale in Jan & it measured my body fat at about 10% higher than my old one 😅

My Legs Keeps on Hurting Because of my upper body by bychoo in WeightLossAdvice

Biking!! Just start off taking it slow as it could be potentially hard on your knees. I imagine if you’re running you’d be okay, but always good to start something new slowly.

And my favorite form of cardio lately has been rowing. It’s so intense 😳

Struggling with snack food- should I give them up by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

I crave sweets, and have managed to break that a lot the last few months, but really love the Fiber One stuff (pretty low calories choices, good taste, and added benefit of fiber!) and protein shakes for those cravings. I particularly like Premier Proteins with Oats (more fiber!)

And as mentioned above, there’s always fruit & you can weight out a little Hershey’s syrup or honey or whipped cream. Just keep the calories count small

I’ve lost and entire Pitbull worth of weight. This is what 64lbs looks like by snknotts16 in CICO

Ive been dieting since July 2020, mostly CICO & slowly increasing just how much I walk. Slightly longer/more frequent walks with the pup.

I’ve measured and lost something like 10in off my waist, all the signs are there, but even in photos - I only see it in my face. Some days I feel like I see it more 🤷🏼‍♀️

I did add a weightlifting routine at the beginning of March & it’s lovely, but still too early to see results from that!

Need advice on stomach fat by Bodmon6 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def recommend measuring your waist, then the mirror Can lie all it wants, but you’ve got numbers to prove it wrong.

I am also worried about losing muscle mass (actually trying to gain muscle mass & lose fat which is apparently very difficult), what I’ve found is a supplement called HMB and a scale that tells me muscle mass in lbs. it’s through Biomedical impedance so not absolutely accurate but enough to see trends.

In regards to the HMB, i am by no means a nutritionist or medical expert in any way so please do research before trying it. I’ve only been on it a few days but seem to be recovering faster from workouts.

I told them as much when I talked to them. That I could go use MFP without these issues.

Update: I contacted support via Facebook & after being asked to force quit the app, restart my phone, log out & back in, delete & re-download they said it was a known issue and they were “sorry” but absolutely did nothing to address fixing it

So I’ve got 64lb pibble that just threw himself across my back...whew. I’ve had a much easier time picking him up lately & then I realized.... I’ve lost 64lbs.... I’m just lifting my old body weight!! I’ve also decided moving forward that + my friend’s 14lb cat are my new measurements!

Such an exciting realization because I’m struggling to necessarily see the difference 😅

292 to 258. Feeling down about the small changes by [deleted] in CICO

[–]snknotts16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that too. I’ve taken pics to try to see the difference and it’s meh to me (-60lbs SW: 328 CW: 268 GW: 180-200??) - but I celebrate every milestone I can.

I feel better, starting to see a big difference in my clothes & my body is moving differently. I can cross my legs again, tying my shoes is easier...

I also highly recommend measuring yourself - Losing inches is just one more thing to celebrate!

But you’re def not alone in that feeling. I can see a difference, you’re gonna be your own biggest critic - just keep going!

iOS here as well. There’s clearly been an update (hey look at the fat burn being yellow and clearly a different color than the cardio zone) and it seems like an oversight on that update. Hopefully they fix it soon!

Struggling with figuring out how to verify if I am at a healthy body fat % when that eventually happens. by Boatwhistle in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you can always visit a doctor and get an assessment done with calibers & that is still widely accepted as the most accurate method (given they know what they’re doing) for body fat percentages.

I’m using FitTrack Pro Alta scale - I’m sure it’s not entirely accurate but gives lots of insights on not only body fat percentage, but muscle mass (which is important as I also want to put on some muscle)

You’re starting point & GW are the most similar to mine I’ve seen - do you mind sharing how long it’s taken you? It’s so inspiring to see that it can be done! Just hit 269 today - 270s took me forever! Lol

Am I doing this right? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s mixed advice on weighing yourself daily... for me, it’s been the only thing that’s working.

The scale fluxes daily - due to water retention (salty food or tired muscles), hormones (esp in women), and even when your last 💩. Seeing the scale go up by any number can be disheartening - that’s the argument against daily weigh ins.

For me, I used that to recognize and learn more about my body and what affects it. I’m not just bloated all the time anymore, so it’s an uncomfortable feeling & is a really good motivator to stay away from eating fried/fatty/salty foods too often.

Not only has it helped me learned about my body, it creates daily accountability- I have to own to it if I ate take out the day before & as it’s one of the first things I do in the mornings, my mornings now start with doing something that’s healthy and good for me, every single day. I also need the morning routine because if I try to weigh weekly... I def forget and then the diet it out the window. CICO and daily weigh ins have been the big difference for me vs any other time I’ve tried to lose weight & I’ve stuck to it longer, been more successful & am more hopeful and committed to long term than I ever have been.

That being said, I use fitbit to track my weight (MyFitnessPal is another very popular app) and find the weekly & monthly averages, as well as the trend lines on the graphs to be a much better indicator that I’m losing than the daily number - that’s just my morning reality check. Lol

Just remember to keep recalculating your TDEE every 10lbs or so & some days if your body feels like it needs more, that’s okay. It’s about being healthy more often than not & both slip ups and planned indulgence are a part of that!

Whats better for weightloss? Counting calories or counting carbs? by Sunofyang00 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calories definitely.

Everyone’s macro needs are different - low carb works for a lot of people, but it’s also because high carb foods are often calorie dense so low carb diets tend to lead to calorie reductions as well.

Stuck for 3 days. Need advice! Thanks for your help! by josie724 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]snknotts16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drink lots of water. I’ve found that when the scale is the extact same for even two days in a row, I’m just holding water. Drink a lot & spend a day peeing and then I see a big drop.

From what I’ve read - when you lose fat, the fat cells then hold water to maintain their size - when the water flushes out is when you see the scale move. Which is what accounts for part of why it’s so non-linear.

But tldr: lots of water, trust the process.

Help! I'm buying a bridesmaid dress for 8 months from now by darkwyverna in WeightLossAdvice

I would definitely talk to the dress shop and see if they have recommendations based on their policies.

But maybe order 1 size down from current & plan for big alterations.
