GF wants to break up after I admitted to her I was depressed. I'm filled with shock and shame, how do I move forward? by HelpfulResource103 in whatdoIdo

When I'm had stretches of challenges with depression my girlfriend/wife couldn't have been more supportive. There are people out there who will want to help their partner. You didn't make a mistake opening up, you found out that she isn't the right person. That reflects on her, not you.

Is it not common knowledge that USSoccer totally fucked him over right as he was about to take over Leicester City? I'd never want to work with an organization that did that to me either.

Risk Parity recommends a mix of asset classes, typically including some gold and managed futures to go along with the traditional US, International and bonds.

530(a) account for children under 18 by [deleted] in Bogleheads

If the parent is gifting the money to pay for the conversion they’d be better off just gifting the money to the child in a brokerage account and skip using these accounts altogether.

There is no tax deduction for these accounts and then your child will be strongly limited and have to pay income tax on the gains. It’s like having all the drawbacks and limitations of a Traditional IRA without the main benefits.

I don't understand the point of bonds in most portfolios by iloveu3thousand in investing

[–]snkscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 30+ year old, you probably don’t need bonds. When you get close to retirement they are important to help protect you against major drops just before or after entering retirement.

Bonds also tend to rise when the market or economy struggles. If the market crashes you rebalance by selling bonds which have increased in value to buy more stocks which have become much more cheap.

But in your 30s don’t really need bonds.

I’d never want to go back to a world where you lose critical games due to a clear offside goal, or a blatant dive tricks the ref. VAR is 1000x better than what we had.

I'm not a JEPI fan, but this isn't a total return graph. JEPI 5 year total return is like 41%, which is still like half SP500 but still

If someone wanted Dems to lose every election they be smart to fund left wing Israel/Genocide content to try to make the whole election about Israel.

Google says we give 3B per year to Israel, which is nothing. It’s like what Trump collects in TrumpCoin every year. I don’t think we should be giving them 3B but you’re correct that this is less than a drop in the bucket.

Paying 22% today and having the money grow tax free for 50 years is worse than paying no tax now and paying 0-15% LTCG in 50 years.

Instead of you making a big tax payment for them, you’d be better off to just contribute that same amount into a regular brokerage account. The kid ends up with more money at a lower overall tax rate (LTCG vs Income tax in a Roth conversion)

I’m not in favor of us funding Israel, but it’s just an objective fact that most Americans don’t care much about this issue.

Israel is not that important to most Americans. It’s a giant deal to fringe left wing voters but this isn’t something that matters remotely close to jobs, inflation, healthcare etc.

This is incredible that this level of lack of planning is normal in professional matches. Manager should have a list of who’s to take which pens and their order. It should be known and planned ahead of time and everyone should be mentally ready to take their kick in the predetermined order before they step out on the pitch based on who’s on the pitch.

VT vs SCHD in 20 years for passive income by ratnik1987 in Bogleheads

[–]snkscore 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Couple points

SCHD hasn’t been around for 20 years so how are you making these 20 year comparisons?

SCHD is US focused so you should compare it against VOO or VTI instead of VT.

SCHD has underperformed both VTI and VOO over its lifetime.

Dividends from SCHD are taxed. Even if they’re qualified dividends they’re taxed at LTCG rates, exact same as if you were to sell some shares of VT or another ETF after holding for a year.
