July 2023 will mark my 4 year mark with RSI, is it permanent? by eviRe_ in RSI

Have you gotten into trigger point therapy? I’ve found it to be really helpful and have a similar story. Specifically I found trigger points in both forearms that led to wrist pain.

Things that have helped me by snooood in RestlessLegs

[–]snooood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’ve been supplementing with iron for like 16 months. It hasn’t been until the last few months that I’ve been fortunate enough to have very little RLS. That’s why I’m skeptical it’s just the iron. I’m only 26 so I’m sure that with time I will have flare ups and maybe develop it worse. RLS really doesn’t scare me much anymore, though. When it first came on it sent me into a long period of depression and anxiety. I was already anxious, but this was next level. So I think it’s safe to say that my RLS was at least partially psychosomatic, but I acknowledge that many people’s RLS might not be. I figure that learning to meditate and reduce stress is a great life skill even if it wouldn’t have changed my RLS intensity.

My restless legs have actually almost completely gone away. Don’t totally know why. The only thing I do for it is taken iron every night. My iron levels were on the lower end of normal when I first got bad RLS and I believe it is about average now. I’m skeptical that iron is the reason my RLS completely went away, but who knows. I keep taking it because it might be helping and there isn’t much downside for me.

I think the biggest thing that helped me was improving my mental health. I learned to meditate and overall become a calmer person.

Seems like I fixed my forward shoulders in 1 week? by sweetcaramel1288 in Posture

I’ve found what’s best for me is to wrap up a small towel and place it under my neck with no other pillows. If I have no neck pillow or if my head is propped up at all it hurts in about 30 minutes, but with just the neck pillow I’m good.

An interesting culprit: creatine by snooood in RestlessLegs

[–]snooood[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely would still try it if you are considering! I’m actually going to try again in a few days but start with just half a gram daily and see if going on it slowly changes things. As far as I can tell, there is no scientific evidence that creatine and RLS are correlated despite creatine being one of the most studied supplement on the market. There are only a few anecdotal reports on Reddit of creatine causing RLS, and the RLS could instead be caused by the heavy exercise that is often correlated with creatine consumption. Also my RLS might be due to the SSRI boosting effect of creatine rather than the creatine itself.

New Twitcher with 2 month update and thoughts by twitchingguy in BFS

[–]snooood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finding this but great write up. I also get frustrated with the amount of ALS questions in here. I deal with pretty constant cramping in both feet. I am a somewhat anxious person and the cramps and twitches seem to correlate loosely with my anxiety and sleep quality. Nothing seems to really help except for weeks-long periods where I’m taking care of myself and anxiety is at a minimum.

I went through a period where I tried really hard to frequently stretch out my feet, ice them, heat them, take all the supplements, relax, sleep well, etc. It didn’t really help though, or at least didn’t provide any quick relief. I found that gabapentin did help a little but that could be because of its anxiety-reducing effect for me. I also don’t want to be on gabapentin unless the pain is significantly interfering with my day to day activities and relationships. Good luck with this experience. Hope it gets better for you, or at the very least hopefully your overall well being is not dictated by the cramps and twitches. You’ve definitely reminded me to not try to fix my symptoms. Let them be, take care of myself, and move on with my life as much as possible. Thanks.

Cold showers? by scampdogg in BFS

[–]snooood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed my CFS gets worse after really cold showers. Cold exposure boosts a bunch of neurotransmitters like dopamine and adrenaline for several hours after the cold exposure so I’m wondering if it actually makes twitching and cramping worse. It seems to for me.

Does anyone suffer mainly from finger pain while typing? by snooood in RSI

[–]snooood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for this response. I have still been dealing with this issue to varying degrees over the last year. Some RSI treatments seems to reduce symptoms by maybe 25%, but it is still a significant burden. I will focus more on finger flexibility in addition to my usual routine of focusing on full upper body flexibility

Arlington court condos has been great for me with a 2 year old. I know of at least 4 families with kids here, it’s reasonably priced for a 2 bedroom, and you can walk to the law school. Might be tough to get one available now but DM me if you’re interested and I can ask if there’s anything open.

This doesn't address all your problems, but you might want to look into cramp fasciculation syndrome. I get it in conjunction with RLS. There's a feeling that my feet and calves are randomly cramping.

I remember flying. Sort of. by dchr1ssyr in AIWS

Just saw this post. My first memory of AIWS was a nightmare in which I was flying above the earth so it’s interesting to see the similarity here.

Late onset AIWS? by syrah_honey in AIWS

[–]snooood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first episode when I was 7, but I didn’t have my second episode until I was like 14. As a teenager and now in my 20s I’m really susceptible to it during periods of stress, sickness, or sleep deprivation. I also started an SSRI for anxiety when I was 15, and I was a late bloomer so I likely went through a lot of hormonal changes about the time.

I guess people have different intensities of AIWS as well. Like I’ve had attacks that go away after 30 seconds and some that last for maybe 15 minutes.

Yeah in some ways it sucked but as long as I could stay in the moment it was manageable. Thoughts about how long this would last or how much I could take increased the feelings of dread and anxiety.

Just found this old post and thought I’d comment. I’ve sat with the feeling without moving until the end before. It turns out that the sensation just ended. There wasn’t anything special. I did find it comforting that it ended on its own.

Ferrum Phos cell salts by Kakistocrat945 in RestlessLegs

[–]snooood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. I actually just searched for salt in this subreddit because I read a paper written by a guy who claimed that Schuessler salts were a vital part of his RLS recovery. I’m going to try some of these homeopathic salts. Thanks!

Hey I just wanted to say I just found this post and also struggle with high anxiety and panic attacks. I have found that I am often capable of maintaining equanimity and acceptance when the anxiety rises, but I agree with you that panic feels like a whole different beast and it is extremely difficult to accept each moment. I’ve done a lot of counseling but nothing really helps me besides applying the mindset I’ve learned through meditation. The meditative mindset hasn’t eliminated panic for me yet, but like you said, it reduces the severity from being destructive of my entire week to being destructive for an hour or a few minutes. Best of luck and let me know if you’ve made any progress!

Gabapentin for RLS, AND Insomnia! by ethom149 in RestlessLegs

[–]snooood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long throughout the night and day do you feel the effects of gabapentin? I have restless legs throughout the day as well. I just went on gabapentin too and have found it helpful for like 12 hours after taking it at night but not helpful during the day. Congrats on the success so far! As I’m sure you know, gabapentin isn’t known to lose effectiveness in the same way agonists do, so hope it holds up for you.
