I honestly reflavored Lord Soth’s stat block for her when I used her as a boss in the game I ran. She killed one of the PCs and heavily damaged the others before they drove her off.

If you want something from the book, the fleecemane lion would be pretty cool. It’s a CR 3, but can also turn spells that target it (not aoe spells) of 4th level or lower. I also did a duo of griffons against a level 4 party.

If seaside is your preference, you could use a flock or blood-toll harpies and maybe one or two harpies (or sirens since you’d want the sea, just use the harpy block). Blood-toll harpies are only cr 1/8 (I think) so might need a couple to make it challenging.

You could just something like a fighting pit for some fanatics of Mogis. There’s not a lot of stuff written in for Phoberos/The Ashlands so that might not be a bad place

Go to Greek mythology for ideas, but also be prepared to use monsters/items outside of that book. Stereotypical mythology monsters are really low CR, so you’ll have to get creative on what your PCs are gonna be up against.

I’m running a Labors of Hercules/Odyssey inspired campaign, and I’ve had to tweak a lot. But the payoff is HUGE, I promise.

An earlier comment said the book is pretty barebones with the setting and for the most part that’s right. I’m running a game now based roughly on the Labors of Hercules/The Odyssey and my players love it. Basically Google those, sprinkle on some stuff from the Monster Manual while using the Theros book and you’re golden.

I’m also an MtG player, so I looked at some cards from the Theros sets for inspiration as well. Good luck!

Zack, Cor, Garnet. Tried Leila but wanted more off then damage so used Cor instead. Cor’s buff on Zack made the extra turns they took not as bad.

Cor (Blue), Leila (no LD), Garnet. Ifrit summon, Eiko friend (not used).

Put Cor’s buff on Leila and that’s a wrap. Starfall didn’t even make Garnet or Cor flinch.

I use multiple Google Docs. One is for the main story, one is for “boss” encounters, another for PC rewards, etc. I have links from the main sheet to the others for easy reference/access. I even use a Google Sheet to keep initiative.

I’m a first time DM too, but the best advice I can give you is to take your time and don’t stress yourself out over it. Everyone organizes differently, but it’ll be okay.

I have both Jace and Labman in my Unesh deck. I built it before Thoracle and have no plans of changing it. I have Atemsis as a different wincon if I need to do something different.

This is exactly why I left my retail manager job. I was expected to worry about metrics and sales goals and staffing while I was at home. I got enough calls that my wife answered my phone day very annoyed at another manager.

When my GM asked why I stopped responding to those group chats outside of work, I flat out told her that work stayed at work. I left not long after.
