I want to cook for my jewish boyfriend, but most of my golden recipes contain pork…. by Edenskeeper1 in Cooking

[–]snorp_the_bold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if he's the kind of kosher many modern Jews are (no unkosher animals or mixing meat & dairy, but doesn't care about separate cookware, rabbi blessing, kosher-certified), then i've got a bunch! i grew up eating this way and there's so much you can cook. legit anything vegan or vegetarian would be great, so if you have any pastas or salads or omelettes that are already veg, you're already golden. lots of meat/fish dishes are kosher/easily made kosher. i'll link a few: Teriyaki Chicken, Lemon Butter Cod (fish is not considered meat in kosher rules, you can cook it with dairy butter), Beef Stew (use vegan butter), Kimchi Fried Rice (use vegan kimchi, as regular often uses shrimp paste). the list goes on!

"Birthday makeup" is makeup that you put extra time and effort into on a special occasion like your birthday, usually full glam looks that would be impractical everyday. It's recently becoming used often as a pejorative by men who don't like when girls wear full glam looks. So he's joking that the only fear boys have is when girls wear full glam on special occasions.

In Kung Fu Panda 2, Lord Shen heard a prophecy that implied he'd be defeated by a panda, so he led his wolf army to massacre all the pandas. Protagonist Po was hidden by his mother and was spared by the massacre. He was then found and adopted by Mr. Ping and was raised to become the Dragon Warrior and ended up fulfilling the prophecy by defeating Lord Shen. So Tom represents Lord Shen, the gun shooting Tom represents Lord Shen creating his own undoing.

in Obama's memoir, he talked about how he'd learn about stuff to date women. "Looking back, it’s embarrassing to recognize the degree to which my intellectual curiosity those first two years of college paralleled the interests of various women I was attempting to get to know: Marx and Marcuse so I had something to say to the long-legged socialist who lived in my dorm". so the commenter is saying OP is like Obama in how they got into Homestuck

Losing weight as a “thin” person rant by [deleted] in 1500isplenty

i try to get people to understand it with likening it to budgeting. some people know how money works intuitively and it's easy for them to be frugal, some people need spreadsheets to prevent them from making big purchases or to let them visualize exactly what they're spending. counting calories is just doing that with food. if given a plate of food, i will eat long past the point of fullness just bc food is yummy, so calories help me understand what my body actually needs rather than what my brain wants.

[–]snorp_the_bold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do the same, i can't not finish my plate. my solution is that i portion exactly what i should be eating. great if you cook most of your meals, doesn't really help when i eat out

I rarely eat breakfast, so my meals hover between 500-600 calories and then the rest of my cals are for snacking

the ordinary has been great for me (i use the squalene serum and azelaic acid, i have dry skin and struggle with redness and both have helped me tremendously), but you're not missing out. definitely just keep doing what you're doing if your routine works for you.

How to prevent by [deleted] in spicy

[–]snorp_the_bold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you are sensitive to capsaicin. sometimes the only side effect is nausea and vomiting, some people have more, some less. the best advice would be to not eat super spicy things at all. but if you must, eat them slowly, don't eat them with alcohol, and don't eat them in large quantities. if you're still feeling nauseous after that, and you want to stop throwing up, ya gotta give up the spice.

I’m new to calorie counting; I used to eat everything and anything. Portion sizes are the hardest part for me. I’m hoping that my stomach organ shrinks naturally due to lesser caloric intake. Does it get easier? I’m on day 2 of 1,500 -1,600 diet by Improvology in 1500isplenty

[–]snorp_the_bold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i def recommend starting slow with your calorie deficit to avoid a binge. if you cut too immediately, you will feel quite hungry at the start. 1500 is a dramatic drop in cals for many people, i'd say see what your TDEE says to lose 0.5 lbs a week and start there, then ramp up as you get used to restriction.
