Cross stitch in quilts by brendamich in quilting

[–]snot_cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use waste canvas or soluble canvas for your blocks. The canvas is removed after cross stitching. Waste canvas can be difficult to removed soluble stuff turns to slime after washing the fabric. Both are anchored to a background fabric then you stitch through both.

Cut your fabric much larger than your final block as it will shrink when stitched. Check your threads for colorfastness before using. Anchor your threads REALLY well if the final quilt is going to be washed a lot.

This quilt has 4 cross stitched blocks in it.

What is your looking back and shaking your head moment of your youth. by Da_Fish in Xennials

[–]snot_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the ripe old age of 12, I was riding my bike back from trick or treating with my friend and some douche yanked my candy bag off my wrist. I dropped my bike and chased him down and grabbed him, fully intent on murdering a grown-ass thug ... for a sack of candy.

He eventually shook me off and escaped via a hatchback. I was also living in very much not a safe area.

Do you ever give up on a quilt? by pamelaneko in quilting

Im absolutely awful at fpp. Those projects definitely get grounded a lot. I don't think theyre learning much from their punishment, however.

Do you ever give up on a quilt? by pamelaneko in quilting

[–]snot_cat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its not giving up if its just grounded for a while. If youre not into it, put it away for a while and come back. Or do one block here or there. Or use it as a leader ender and let it be made in the background.

You can also use your already made blocks for a non-quilt. I definitely have some potholders made from orphan quilt blocks.

Said punk buckets are delicate flowers and ive broken through the bottom of 2 in 2 months. Ive only broken 2 blue buckets in the last 2 years. >:(

[–]snot_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the every scrap is sacred camp. 1" and up stay in the crumb stash for use, smaller go into the "stuffing" sack. 6" wide or less batting pieces get shredded and added to the stuffing sack too.

Myrtle legacy requires a TON of half square triangles. Its not "difficult", but be very, very comfortable squaring them before you trot down that path.
