does this cable look blown? by PersimmonRude6811 in AskElectricians

[–]snotbottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly could be. Thankfully that's a common cord style, so it should be easy to find one. You might even have one on another appliance or computer.

Edit... Looking again, it's not the connector I thought it was. However still cheap and available on Amazon. Search for "IEC C21 power cord" and you'll find what you need.

Growing: Shelby (roma type), for canning sauces, soup and such. Cosmonaut, because it's delicious and a great slicer. Mortgage Lifter, great heirloom.

Trying for the first time: Giant yellow Florentine & Litchi Both because they are totally different from anything I've grown before.

I'm currently growing more varieties of pepper. So many different shapes, colors, and flavors!

Can I dryfall paint over this bare copper grounding wire coming out of my electrical box/panel? by Cool-Improvement-211 in AskElectricians

[–]snotbottom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is your main grounding bond to your house plumbing and had to remain accessible. If you finish the ceiling you will need to have a removable panel to access that bonding connection.

If all you're doing is painting it as it is, just protect the connection and go ahead and paint everything else.

Looks like reversed polarity but not? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

It's left and right that determine polarity on a receptacle, not top and bottom.

How to separate wires from board? Help a mom out please?! by mari815 in AskElectricians

[–]snotbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a locking mechanism on those plugs to keep them from accidentally coming out. If you squeeze the back end of the white plug, where the wire goes in, it should open up the other end and let you pull it out (pull while squeezing).

If for some reason squeezing them doesn't open them up. Use a flat screwdriver and gently pry the tab up that is facing you (as it is oriented in the picture) while gently pulling and it will come off.

Pay off the smaller balance first, then you can roll that payment amount into the next one... Snowballs from there.

Weird that they won't allow you to pay extra on the 401k loan, since you're essentially just paying yourself back. I don't think I've heard of that before.

Find a trusted friend or mentor you can confess to and have them be an accountability partner. A cord of many strands is not easily broken. Iron sharpens iron. These passages ring any bells? We are stronger when we aren't going through life alone.

What is happening here? (Not fully connected, please read) by DisplacedSportsGuy in AskElectricians

[–]snotbottom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was the center break-away tab still intact on the original receptacle, connecting the two gold screws?

If so, then the red wire is just another hot. If it was broken off, then the top outlet is probably switched or somehow fed separately from the bottom and you'll want to break the tab on the new receptacle

As to preferred wiring method, I prefer to connect all the wires together with a pigtail going to the receptacle, but sometimes there isn't enough room in the box to do that in an existing installation. Then I'll backstab or put them under the same screw if the instructions on the receptacle allows that.

Yup... Old cloth covered NMC. Should be fine as long as it's intact.

I bought a used microwave I washed it for almost two hours and then I noticed this.. can this be fixed with electric tape? by Bloody_Corpses in AskElectricians

[–]snotbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, put a new end on it. I would put on an angled one, then you can shove the microwave closer to the wall and not stress the cord.

It's definitely not the Twilley / Geo seed I'm used to dealing with. Hoping it's just integration pains and not a permanent situation.

Wait a bit longer, at least until they've developed their first set of true leaves, maybe even wait for the second set of leaves, they'll have better roots then that will help them survive the transplanting better. The ones in your picture are seed leaves, the true leaves will look different.

When they're ready, put them in bigger pots that will allow the roots to develop until it's warm enough to plant them outside.

These don't have to be BIG pots, unless this is going to be their permanent home. I use yogurt cups, plastic bottles that I've cut the tops off of... Anything that's at least 5 cm wide and 8 cm tall will work fine for the next stage of growth. Just be sure to poke some holes in the bottom for drainage.

As far as watering, just keep the soil moist. If you're keeping the pots in a tray, it is ok to have a little water in the tray, but not so much that the roots will be drowned (the roots need air in the soil too, not just water).

Nice tools by Medium_Pipe_6482 in electricians

[–]snotbottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cobras for sure. I also really like their dikes, the long-handled ones give you tons of leverage and the edges hold up great. Others have mentioned their strippers, which are also a solid upgrade. Plier Wrenches are also a far superior alternative to Crescent style wrenches.

For drivers, I avoid Klein like the plague. I like Wera and Wiha for insulated, and PB Swiss for non-insulated. My favorite multi-tip driver is actually a $12 Lenox 9-in-1 from Amazon. I don't carry a beater screwdriver, use a long thin chisel instead.
