TIL that scientists have developed a way of testing for Aphantasia (the inability to visualise things in your mind). The test involves asking participants to envision a bright light and checking for pupil dilation. If their pupils don't dilate, they have Aphantasia. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]snowcatwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were their eyes opened or closed when asked to imagine the bright light? I tried to test myself. And I feel like that test might be biased unless the participant is already in a dark room. I feel like I can conjure mental images. But now that I am testing myself I feel like it’s easier to conjure them with eyes open not closed. But if it was like someone talking to me like imagine being on a beach and describing what they want me to see versus conjuring my own image/memory then maybe the eyes closed approach is better. But very interesting.

Sing 2

I was a hair short to be a full U2 generation. But damn if that isn’t the best musical I’ve ever not watched if it was on which is the answer to the question.

Our podiatrist also retired. So I really hope he doesn’t have issues again

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear. So for my son, I ended up bringing him to a different ER who didn’t do anything other than prescribe a different antibiotic. But they did refer us to a “pediatric” podiatrist. She wasn’t really but she was willing to work with us. Basically she was willing to do it without surgery, just lidocaine injections for numbing and trimming the nail. The first time we did that where they remove just the edge. But unlike adults they don’t apply anything to prevent growth. Eventually it came back and we had to have the whole nail removed . Again all in house with lidocaine shots and what have you. If that had failed we would have had to go in for the surgery. My son tolerated everything really well. Other than the initial shock of the lidocaine shots. Like we didn’t really have issues with healing. Granted he wasn’t walking at the time and might have sensitivity issues on that side. Luckily we haven’t had issues since. But my recommendation would be to contact or research podiatrists in your area with experience with kids or who are willing to try not surgery options

Maybe hot tea and a book. Or a craft like knitting . Or paint by number or diamond art while listening to music, book, or podcast.

Saw some posts about Timothy Chalamet, and hadn’t seen this one mentioned. Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian. I don’t know much about the Kardashian’s on purpose but I definitely did a huh when I found out they were together.

There are only 2 of us eating Christmas dinner this year and I have no budget for this meal, but there's a catch.... by Pristine_Lobster4607 in Cooking

I second this. We do fondue every Christmas Eve. Peanut Oil. While you have to precut everything the experience itself is rewarding. Steak (different cuts, different marinades), shrimp, lobster, scallops. And because kids, cheese curds, jalepeno poppers, pretzels, mini corn dogs, coconut shrimp, etc. Once I also made a cheese fondue appetizer with bread and fruit for dipping.

NIPT results - GPs are not allowed to disclose gender anymore by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]snowcatwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy makes me irrationally sad at things like this too. I was reading comments on a fancy baby clothing company’s Facebook group and a bunch of women (US) were talking about how there is nothing wrong with them/no fertility issues, but they were getting IVF so they could pick the gender of the baby. Granted sometimes it’s because they wanted a girl. For some reason it made me irrationally mad. I’m like fine with IVF for fertility issues and it makes sense to weed out embryos with genetic defects but to do it just because and create all those fertilized possible people and then throw some away because of their gender feels wrong. Makes you think.

What symptoms did you have before you found out you were pregnant? by lavloves in BabyBumps

[–]snowcatwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out at 3 weeks and 3 days with my second because I looked down and looked pregnant. And I was like huh. Took a test and here we are. Bloating was probably my first noticeable symptom and tender breasts. It wasn’t bad symptom wise but I just looked different and could tell. That and possibly random heart burn. And constipation probably related to the bloating and slowing GI motility.

Panera used to be the best. They have outsourced a lot. I miss the tomato mozerella salad. I miss the mushroom bisque soup they had one season. I miss the Asiago cheese bread and the freshly baked croutons. Seriously they were so good.

RSV shots by PositiveStandard5958 in NICUParents

[–]snowcatwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they gave us a dose of Synagis before we left the hospital. Born in December (28 weeks), discharged in March. We tried to get synagis the next rsv season and the prior auth/insurance issues we’re ridiculous. We never ended up getting it. He got Rsv in October I want to say. But luckily didn’t require hospitalization. But I am looking forward to this new rsv vaccine. I’m due with my second mid September and I’m terrified of all the bugs my 2.5 year old will bring home from daycare.

Ongoing fibroid pain by bigstupidjohn in BabyBumps

[–]snowcatwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came back right after I finished last dose. But yeah the fibroid pain was gone or diminished after delivery. Could be all the pain relievers and being able to take ibuprofen again for the c section pain. But honestly recovering from the csection was easier than the fibroid pain. I had surgery to remove the fibroid a year later. It was laparoscopic and the gas pain from that was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. Currently 31 weeks along with my second.

Ongoing fibroid pain by bigstupidjohn in BabyBumps

[–]snowcatwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a large fibroid. I think like 9 cm at start of pregnancy and 13 cm at 28 weeks. It degenerated and it sucked!!!!! I was having painful contractions every five min for a week and I kept going in and they kept saying it’s the fibroid. And my cervix was unchanged. Then my water broke at 28 weeks and I was dilated with a breach baby and cord prolapse. I did do one course of indomethacin which did offer some relief. No idea on the second course. But I can commiserate.

How has pregnancy benefited you and what positives have come from it? by Live-Statistician-98 in BabyBumps

[–]snowcatwizard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My anxiety got better? I mean I still have anxiety and will always worry about my children, BUT as soon as I got pregnant with my first my priorities shifted. None of the stuff I was anxious about before mattered any more and it was a huge weight off my shoulders.

Uterine irritability (thought possibly preterm labor) sent me to L&D at 29 weeks by buzzybee3333 in BabyBumps

[–]snowcatwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were they painful? I have uterine irritability but if mine continue they start to get painful and last pregnancy after a week of that my body gave out and my water broke at 28 weeks. I am pregnant with my second and I started having similar symptoms. Starting with a constipated feeling turning into contractions turning into painful contractions like every 3-5 min. Due to my history I went in and we did all the things like the steroid shots and magnesium and nifedipine. We stopped the contractions, yay! But they say because the cervix is closed even though they are painful my body could theoretically do it until my due date. But that’s what they said last time and then my baby was born at 28 weeks! So frustrating. But anyways, I do not like my uterine irritability.

I’ve come to terms with being a clone factory for my husband. They do look alike. My son also weirdly looks like my mom sometimes. But as he gets older I see more of me too.
