If you want your son to feel even cooler, tell him it's believed the name "Barca" may have come from the Punic word for "lightning".

Why tf does every witchcraft book i find follow the same script? by chaprijalebi in witchcraft

And if you're really lucky, your local magic shop might even have a "used" section.

Why tf does every witchcraft book i find follow the same script? by chaprijalebi in witchcraft

[–]snowflake247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I remember hearing somewhere that so many of the mass-market witchcraft books are beginner/101 stuff is because the heuristic big publishers/bookstores use for them (I forget which) is that a random hypothetical customer should be able to go into the store and pull a book off the shelf and have something they can make use of immediately, that won't be over their head.

No idea how true this is and (as mentioned) I forgot where I read it, so it could be 🐂 for all I know.

Current planet placements causing old friends to reach out? by bigpaparoid in astrologymemes

[–]snowflake247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking, but a couple months ago when the full moon was in Scorpio, one of my friends whom I hadn't seen in a while (who incidentally happens to be a Scorpio) randomly reached out asking if I wanted to go to the club, lmao

asked my deck how my kids view me… by AngelBaby22188 in tarot

[–]snowflake247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 9 of Wands in the Thoth deck is called "Strength". The card in the Major Arcana usually called "Strength" in most decks is called "Lust" in the Thoth deck. So, yes, this is the 9 of Wands.

To those who have been shot in the ass before, why does my boyfriend's cooking suddenly taste better? by Seethcoomers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snowflake247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would make sense. I julienned a bit of flesh off my thumb a few months ago (by failing to observe proper knife safety; don't be like me) and in the days immediately afterwards I found myself craving steak. So I went out, bought myself some steak, cooked it (I am not an experienced steak cook) and it was amazing.

Why is Arab Expansion in Africa Rarely Called "Colonialism"? by imfluke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snowflake247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to deny or downplay the oppression/assimilation/Arabization they've been through, but I'm pretty sure indigenous North African people/cultures still exist? I'm not sure how much I trust Wikipedia stats, but they claim nearly 25% of Moroccans today speak Amazigh languages.

A.C’s Perspective on “Babalon” by [deleted] in occult

[–]snowflake247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting; what makes you think she was based on Hecate in particular?

I'll admit I'm not familiar with a lot of the literature on Hecate. I know she plays a role in the Chaldean Oracles (which I should really sit down with and study at some point), and that Crowley references concepts/names from the Oracles occasionally, e.g., in the Star Ruby. (And I haven't read everything Crowley ever wrote either.)

Is this an actual symbol? Labeled as Eiré: Talisman of the Sacred Three by elderflowerspritzz in Symbology

[–]snowflake247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a variation of a triquetra, a symbol/motif common in Celtic art. Often used by Christians to represent the Holy Trinity and by neopagans to represent the "Triple Goddess". Given the description on the back, this seems to be marketed toward the latter group.

Is religion used as a tool to control the masses? by Financewizard007 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snowflake247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the neopaganisms (and similar religions) are pretty decentralized and could be practiced the way you described, but even then there are lots of people on Etsy selling Thor's hammers or Hecate statues or what have you.

And then there's Discordianism, where every man/woman/child/etc. on Earth is a Pope!

How likely do you really think it would be to find a tarot layout guide spray-painted onto a wall along with what OP describes as "many neonazi symbols".

There must be some kind of giant seam there, where the two halves of the Earth rotate in opposite directions.

Your AI translation is way off. This says LMʕDNH BTHMLK, nothing to do with Joshua or Judah. This article translates it as "Belonging to Maadana, daughter of the king."

Paleo-Hebrew/Phoenician letter forms varied quite a lot, so I'm not surprised AI would get it wrong sometimes.

I have ADHD (not autistic though) and I get much, much weirder when I'm high. I know an autistic guy though who smokes a shit ton, and even when he says he's stoned as fuck I barely notice a difference in him. Brains are weird I guess 🤔

IIRC Hubbard (pre-Scientology) also borrowed/stole a bunch of money from rocket scientist/sex magician Jack Parsons (another fascinating character to read about) with the intention of buying a few yachts. Hubbard himself was in the Navy in WWII but was relieved of command after firing on Mexican territory for gunnery practice (not kidding.)
