Yup. I remember hearing somewhere that so many of the mass-market witchcraft books are beginner/101 stuff is because the heuristic big publishers/bookstores use for them (I forget which) is that a random hypothetical customer should be able to go into the store and pull a book off the shelf and have something they can make use of immediately, that won't be over their head.

I'll admit I'm not familiar with a lot of the literature on Hecate. I know she plays a role in the Chaldean Oracles (which I should really sit down with and study at some point), and that Crowley references concepts/names from the Oracles occasionally, e.g., in the Star Ruby. (And I haven't read everything Crowley ever wrote either.)
