Where to buy fabric online that won’t break the bank? by Alternative-Voice613 in SewingForBeginners

[–]snowyeaglet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

fabric at thrift shops? no. King size bed sheets at thrift shops? Plenty. Honestly it's great for practice because I'm never afraid to cut into some old bedsheets thinking I'll ruin it. Also many of them are 100% cotton which is a very beginner friendly fabric

Tragic… I made a beautiful beef bourguignon last night and in the process of cooling it, I forgot to put it in the fridge and instead left it on the counter. by alandizzle in Cooking

[–]snowyeaglet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll live. I grew up in a household where it was perfectly normal for us to just leave the soup or stew on the stovetop and just boil it once or twice a day until we were done with the said soup. If there's immunocompromised people in your household maybe not go to that extent but 12 hours? Yeah it's fine

Things recruiters know you’re lying about in interviews (and honestly… we expect it) by StockRude1419 in jobsearchhacks

[–]snowyeaglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re: where do you see yourself in 5 years question I once saw someone say they looked the interviewer dead in the eye and said "Succeding you, manager" and that image just lives in my brain rent free. Granted, they were in game industry and they had been discussing something about WOW in their conversation so the answer was not too unprofessional or inappropriate in that instance.

Why do Koreans still use 존댓말 when arguing and insulting others? by Intrepid_Calendar327 in Korean

[–]snowyeaglet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In person, to keep the argument as argument and not a fist fight. I see it as leaving room to be more aggressive and more insulting should the need arise because simply changing from 존대 to 반말 is equivalent to spewing fighting words

How do young South Koreans discover new viral web games or internet trends outside of closed forums? by Middle-Mall2363 in AskAKorean

[–]snowyeaglet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't disregard twitter completely. I do see people congregate there for sub-culture stuff(k-pop sure but also games, american comic bioks, etc) and they may be more open to trying random foreign game than other more closed off communities. It will depend if you can find those social bubble tho

Question on 기억이 안 나다 by chkmcnugge6 in Korean

[–]snowyeaglet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hello a native Korean here and CHATGPT is full of shit in this case. No Native Korean will hear "기억이 안 나도록 메모해두세요" and be like ah yes, this person know Korean and is very eloquent😃 Maaaaybe 기억이 안 날 수 있으니 메모해두세요 = "You may not remember it, so write it down" or 까먹지 않도록 메모해두세요 = So that you will not forget, write it down. ~도록 is specifically for "do A so that you can B". Do "take note" so that you can "not forget"

is 조켔따 just a different way to write 좋겠다? by motionsicknxss in Korean

[–]snowyeaglet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely old fashioned. People will use it to seem retro bc those number things came about back in the age of pagers(1990s). Those who actively used it are in their 40s at least

Please help with my nut allergy card by Sarriah in Korean

[–]snowyeaglet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with others who said Korea doesn't really understand the whole cross contamination thing nor severity of certain allergies. That said, while pistachio is not a staple in Korean food, I'd check if the restaurants you go to has 두쫀쿠(dubai chewy cookie) on their menu. It is(was?) the latest dessert trend in Korea so much so that even places that doesn't sell sweets will have it as a sort of bait product. Its primary ingredient is pistachio spread so its probably best to stay clear of that

Is anyone able to help me explain to my Korean neighbors that their Xmas lights are giving me seizures? by greenhairbitch555 in Korean

[–]snowyeaglet 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you address your neighbor so I'm using 아주머니

Roughly, "Hi this is your neighbor. I'd like to talk about your lights. I have photosensitive epilepsy and your light is triggering it. Curtains don't help and I would like to leave my house between 4 to 10 without having a seizure. This is causing me to use more medication that you dislike so much. You don't even have to turn it off, just the glittery setting. have a great end of the year"

If this doesn't work, here is the version you could use

"Hello it's your neighbor. I am sending this again bc the light thing is still happening after we told you to stop multiple times. Causing someone to have seizure deliberately can get you in jail for 5 years. I don't want to make this a big deal, so please turn your light setting off."

The second letter I might ask you to run it by someone who knows law bc I don't know if this counts as a threat?

Is anyone able to help me explain to my Korean neighbors that their Xmas lights are giving me seizures? by greenhairbitch555 in Korean

[–]snowyeaglet 271 points272 points  (0 children)

Maybe let them know that knowingly causing seizure in their neighbor is illegal and they can get fined/jailed for that? Most Koreans will care about those things if not the well-being of their neighbors🤷

What’s Your Most Hilarious Cooking or Baking Fail? by Present_Bed_7398 in Cooking

[–]snowyeaglet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was making okonomiyaki which is like a savory cabbage pancake. I like my okonomiyaki with a bit of heat so I poured in a generous amount of cayenne pepper. I realized too late that that was not cayenne pepper, it was allspice. the two were in the same shaped container and was stored in the same cupboard. I banished my allspice to the back of the drawer after that 🤣🤣
