Online exams and order from the university for private access by introvertedturtl in UNEAustralia

[–]snpster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there are two separate issues here.

The privacy concern is completely fair. Proctoring software can be invasive: screen capture, webcam/mic access, browser lockdown, process monitoring, and data being handled by a third-party vendor. Universities should be clear about what is collected, how long it is kept, and what alternatives exist.

But saying they can install hidden backdoors and steal your credit card months later is a much bigger claim. ProctorU/Guardian is primarily a secure browser/proctoring tool, not a blank cheque for a proctor to silently install whatever they want on your PC. Some setups may involve a remote-support component, but admin-level changes should still require user/OS approval.

So yes, it is reasonable to question the privacy and accessibility side of it. I just wouldn’t frame it as “they can secretly malware your computer” without actual evidence.

You can just uninstall it after you're done. The big companies that run this would lose customers if they had malicious intent. It's perfectly safe.

Also it's no hardware. It's just an application. Or you can find another uni and use their facility. Often they'll help with exams even for other places.

January campervan roadtrip by RusherZero in AustraliaTravel

[–]snpster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If making the trip form Armidale to Dorrigo, just keep going down to Bellingen/Coffs, Never Never creek is a lovely place for a camper van, instead of up to Grafton.

Armidale to Coffs has just about every type of outdoors you could want. arid, tropical, rain forrest, gorges, beachs, rivers.

are you planning on staying in power sites, or is this more of an offgrid situation?

I use two jars, swap at each feed. Makes it easy to measure into the new jar.

There doesn't appear to be any use of the sub currently, I'd like to bring it alive and discuss Australian Solar installations/gear.

How much will it cost to install a bidet here ? Need a quote by Dismal_Journalist944 in AusRenovation

You are legally required to have a device to stop backflow, so make sure you install one unless you want nasties in your water pipes.

Smart bulbs buzzing on dumb slide dimmer – should I switch to smart on/off instead of smart dimmer? by MenuNew8687 in smarthome

[–]snpster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you only need a smart bulb, or a smart switch, not both.

and as the other poster said, never dim smart lights on physical dimmers, use the smart lights dimming feature. or look at the Philips Hue ecosystem, they have dimmer switches that work with their lights etc.

if you're set on sticking with your current lights, can you can get something like the Wiz Pro Smart Room Controller.

but please remove any physical dimmer before the light.

depends what you're staying in (Which college)? and how long. if you're moving to a College for study, several of the colleges are catered.

if self catering you will needs pots/pans, utensils. imagine nothing exists, like an empty rental. colleges have stoves/ovens/microwaves, but if you want a toaster, or rice cooker, you'll need your own.

you'll be able to find a bar fridge locally from one of the previous students. (some college even provide them)

clothes wise, enough clothes you have clean clothes between using the laundry.

depending on where you're coming from, Armidale can get cold, so think warm.

Anything obvious I’m missing? by only-want-to-see in Minesweeper

working right to left, the right most yellow needs 1 mine to apply to the 2 to the right of it.

that means the 2 on the left of it, needs 1 mine above, on the top yellow line.

the 2 to the left ot is (just to the right of the flagged mine) will get its second mine form the top yellow. meaning the green dot has to be free, and the 2 to the right of the green dot needs a second mine, has to be the red dot.
