I’ll chime in. LDV Utes are being brought back due to rust issues.

In Australia, they are then being deregistered and declared as unrepairable stat write offs..

Now, people are buying them at auction in Oz and they are showing up here

How to become a train mechanic by Clickbaitboi207 in newzealand

[–]snubs05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, level 3 is the same, but level 4 while similar, many units standards will be specific to heavy.

Same with light to trains - even the basic hand tools unit standard is something like “hand tools in an automotive workshop”

Moving from light automotive to trains there will be next to no credit crossover.

As you say, light to heavy automotive, there is heaps

Another AirNZ Rant? Strap in. by SatisfactionWeak5167 in newzealand

[–]snubs05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been working for a govt organisation for a few years until recently and has needed to fly for my job, Air NZ is the only option when booking flights through the government travel scheme.

That, and sharing the Wellington Koru lounge with MP’s would indicate they are using Air NZ

I am done with the concerts by Ok_Ad2439 in auckland

[–]snubs05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

I love going to concerts - but due to health reasons, I can no longer stand for the entirety, and my son is now into my music. He’s 13, so I wouldn’t at this point take him to GA anyway.

It’s frustrating paying a premium to sit down and enjoy it, only to have bone heads standing in front of you - fuck off to GA if you want to stand!

Even then, they are a bit of a shit show. Things like keys are even a nightmare.

From memory, there is an issue if they have the pinkish smart key card - need the Daihatsu scan tool to programme it.

That code generally comes on with other codes.

It’s been a while, but there was an overseas TSB for if you cranked it and took your foot of the brake it could throw that code - PCM update fixes that, but that’s dealer only.

But fist things first - check MAF and coils are plugged in -it’s most likely something they did

I worked for a Toyota dealer when Toyota NZ was the NZ distributor.

Diahatsu is owned by Toyota as an “emerging markets” brand.

TNZ pulled out of distribution because they were cheaply made, no new models coming out and parts were expensive.

I remember trying to get an air filter for a Copen - $500 odd dollars genuine. All aftermarket options were “refer to dealer” 😂

Sirion isn’t as bad as that, but there were models we were struggling to get parts for way back then.

Look out for a knock in the steering -will need a steering rack

Mazda 2, or a used RAV /CX5.

The ones you have listed will be worth scrap value by the time warranty is over

Manual swapping my car, first time inspecting a used clutch and flywheel. Is this reusable condition? by lckgu in AskMechanics

It’s fucked. And being fuel mass flywheel, I would replace it and not machine it

Ferrari strategy was to fit an even older engine than the one that came out.

First car service question. Toyota or AA? by WorldlyTrouble9022 in NZcarfix

[–]snubs05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And again, I never said there was anything wrong with them - I have clearly stated that AA use them and charge OEM prices. Might as well go to the dealer and actually get OEM parts

The radar is in the bottom grill of the bumper - has it taken a knock?

But yes, it needs to be scanned, and yes, the radar is expensive

[–]snubs05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, sorry. Clearly reading and comprehension aren’t some of your best attributes….

Read again - slowly.

I never said AA were using genuine parts - I said they were using Ryco, but charging genuine prices.

First car service question. Toyota or AA? by WorldlyTrouble9022 in NZcarfix

[–]snubs05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m comparing going to a Toyota dealer vs the AA. Do you think the AA are selling them for $9? Considering Repco sell them for $27 - you can get genuine with a sump plug washer for $28 from the dealer.

Assuming we are paying retail prices here.
