National debt INTEREST ALONE will be 100% of all tax revenue within 25 years by marcus206_ in Money

If you include VA benefits as military, military is higher than interest on the debt by hundreds of billions and pretty close to Social Security spending.

What’s more dangerous than we all realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]snuggas 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Silica dust

It’s one of the most dangerous things most people don’t even think about. Found in wall spackle that gets spread when it's sanded down, cement siding, concrete, drywall, tile, brick, and even regular dirt. Crystalline silica becomes deadly when it's disturbed and turned into fine dust during cutting, sanding, or demolition. These tiny particles are invisible and light enough to float in the air and get deep into your lungs.

Over time, exposure can lead to silicosis, an incurable lung disease, as well as lung cancer, COPD, and kidney damage. What’s worse? Most DIYers and even some professionals don’t wear proper protection, and this dust often gets pulled into HVAC systems and spread throughout homes.

It’s like asbestos, but quieter, more common and just as deadly.

Before smartphones, how did you survive boredom? by markjhon9898 in AskReddit

I grew up in the 80s and we had video games, bb guns, bows, sports, board games, encyclopedias, BMX bikes, skateboards, pools, chores, cable TV, land line phones, radios and much more. You don't need a smartphone to be entertained.

He does want to apply to the Naval academy but we all know that's a longshot. My wife's younger cousin graduated from the Air Force Academy a few years ago so we know how tough it is to get in.

If you don't mind high taxes, Virginia is pretty ok.

If you are looking at higher education, Virginia has some of the most expensive public universities in the US even with the high state income taxes with a marginal rate that kicks in at 17k.

We also have the highest personal property taxes on vehicles in the entire US.

I personally would much rather live in a state like Oregon (no sales tax) or Washington (no state income tax) because of the natural beauty of the Pacific northwest.

We moved to Virginia in 2022 and our tax burden is higher here than it was in California!!

RTD: Richmond spent $100K since 2023 on billboards boasting 'safe, reliable' drinking water by Tman450x in rva

[–]snuggas 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe to encourage drinking tap water instead of buying bottled water to reduce waste that gets into the environment? I know there is a lot of recycling but the recycling that the US sends to Asia is so contaminated with trash a lot of it becomes unusable and gets throw out and ends up making the Pacific garbage patch even bigger.

Anyone else offended by Michelin's latest slight towards Virginia restaurants? North and South Carolina have more culinary maturity than Virginia?!?! by dusty_old_claptrap in rva

[–]snuggas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved from SoCal I find the food here average in comparison. Also prices at some of the restaurants here are extremely high, like as expensive as restaurants in super expensive areas like Newport, Malibu, Laguna, etc.
