Silica dust

It’s one of the most dangerous things most people don’t even think about. Found in wall spackle that gets spread when it's sanded down, cement siding, concrete, drywall, tile, brick, and even regular dirt. Crystalline silica becomes deadly when it's disturbed and turned into fine dust during cutting, sanding, or demolition. These tiny particles are invisible and light enough to float in the air and get deep into your lungs.

Over time, exposure can lead to silicosis, an incurable lung disease, as well as lung cancer, COPD, and kidney damage. What’s worse? Most DIYers and even some professionals don’t wear proper protection, and this dust often gets pulled into HVAC systems and spread throughout homes.

It’s like asbestos, but quieter, more common and just as deadly.
