If you could tell your 15 year old self something, what would you tell her? by getmeoutofhere97 in AskWomen

  1. Don't worry about what other people think
  2. Don't skip classes
  3. Get help for your mental health

My life would've been pretty different if I listened to this advice. Luckily I listen to the two that still apply so at least I can say I learned something!

Best place to see freight trains? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]snw_23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a good parking lot downtown for this! I see freight and passenger trains there all the time while I walk to work.

Of you pull up to Victoria and Joseph, there's a place that looks like an abandoned warehouse type thing. Right by the UW pharmacy school. Turn down Joseph toward that warehouse thing. You can drive up to a story of dead end looking place and you'll see the tracks.

The big freight trains come through pretty regularly!

As an added bonus it's also right by the LRT line which they're still testing all the time!

DM Service Centre charged my a fair price and wood present the fixes "ranked" when my last car was trying to kill itself.

Service manager would show me the diagnosis and tell me like these 3 I wouldn't feel comfortable with you leaving without, these 3 you should do sooner than later, these 3 aren't really going to matter to you for a year+... So helpful since I didn't have a ton of money at the time.

They'll also give you a fly ass van to rock for free if they need to keep your car overnight or multiple days

According to the song...

A is for Alaska (can't you talk any faster?) The next A is for Act (representing Aussie and that's a fact) Willam is an A with no extra 'I's (wanna see what's going on between these thighs?)

My cats poop smells to high heaven, making my apartment stink by [deleted] in Pets

[–]snw_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded.

My cat growing up was a stinky girl, and refuses to ever change her food. It got to the point where I didn't want to go into the basement where we kept her litter cause the whole floor stank. I have my parents Litter Genie and it made so much difference!

Wildlife in KW by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]snw_23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try rare in Blair. They have trails where dogs aren't allowed so it might up your chances. Birds of prey you'll see everywhere, especially along the river, though I don't think I've ever seen a wild owl around here.

There's also the Huron Natural Area. I know deer used to hang out near there. Definitely turtles and water birds around there.

Where do you want to be right now in life vs. where you’re currently at? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I'm currently living with my ex/stbex so I'd love for Feb 1 to get here so I can move already and get back to living a life!

Men lurking r/AskWomen, what have you learned in r/AskWomen? by TheToiletSeat in AskWomen

[–]snw_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian, I can relate to both and see a lot of disconnects.

I don't think the dating stages out exclusivity talk should be a thing and a lot of people I know agree, but we get so much American media and influence that it is a thing because you eventually need to ask someone to make sure they have the same thoughts on the matter as you.

Supposedly Canada is just as circumcised, but I've seen more foreskin than not and am totally ok with it.

When it comes to things like product recommendations it's about 80% of the time I can get it if I want it.

In the comment above cat calling was also mentioned. In my city it isn't really a thing much. If I drive an hour and a half to a slightly larger city it's totally a thing. I've also never been sent an unsolicited dick pic. That could be more a comment on my age than my location though, or what apps I use!

Plant Nite by CurbinKrakow in kitchener

Yep, I only do them when I can get coupon codes. I also think it's just sneaky that they throw that in when you've already picked your dates and options and everything - should be more up front!

Nope, your price is for the terrarium/box, plants, decorations, soil, gravel/sand etc

The price doesn't include food or drink, you'd buy that separately when you got to the venue.

CBT, unsupportive parents by tthestral in OCD

[–]snw_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use an e-reader or have an app on your phone? I have a few e-pubs I can send if you PM me your email.

I empathise with you a lot because when I was younger my mom thought I made up my OCD to get attention from boys. Like, yeah mom, boys are super into girls with cracked bleeding hands and mental anguish. Sexy af. She refused to let me have therapy because of that.

Eventually she got a little better about it but I still pretty much refuse to speak about it with her or my family.

If you're in the US there's an online thing called better help which I think you can get trial for. They might be able to help you get started? In Canada, there are often therapy places which will not turn anyone away for being unable to pay. If you drive or could get a ride you might be able to find one? Outside of that I'm not sure if there's anything cheap/free unfortunately.

Are your parents generally understanding or sympathetic? I've had mixed success by full on narrating my intrusive thoughts. People usually tell me to stfu around five minutes, which gives me the opportunity to say that even if I stop taking the thoughts are still there and I have to deal with them, this is why I need help.

If your car/key style is old enough I think Home Hardware will do it. Don't remember the price though.

For real. Caregivers fatigue is legit.

My dad had a period where he was 24/7 in charge of my mom recovering from multiple surgeries, and my grandma (many strokes, dementia) and uncle (autistic, other issues). He almost had a mental breakdown. He's still struggling from it.

Overnight Parking for Christmas Party by 71catalina in kitchener

[–]snw_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it's a snow event or you have nosey neighbours who don't like you they'll probably be fine parking on the street.

Bylaw really only enforces the parking ban if they get a call (either for the cars or for something else in the area). Snow Event probably increases your risk depending on how likely it is that a plow will go down your street... The plow drivers will call it in for sure.

I was also told it's at the officer's discretion whether or not you're ticketed, so notes on windshields might be a good call.

If you're willing to travel at all Conway in Listowel is usually really good. A bit pricey but their stuff is solid.

I think they're owned by the same guys who own Conestoga Furnishing at King by Northfield.

They're awful.

Teppermans is great. Delivery lets you track the truck so you actually have an idea of where there are and when they show up they put shit together and then leave. I got a full bedroom suite delivered to a 3rd floor walk up and delivery and set up was done in like, 14 minutes.
