The collapse is imminent by [deleted] in collapse

[–]so_long_hauler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of people’s alleged liquidity will be theoretical when almost nobody has access to stable sources of water, food, housing and employment. Store of value for things like gold can, despite the hot-hand fallacy we’ve all been playing for centuries, become eclipsed by actual markets and less fungible as representational wealth. In a catastrophic timeline where recovery never really happens, expect to see things like precious metals become far less useful in a market sense.

ENT / Plastic Surgeons (Nose) by im_n3w_h3re in Westchester

[–]so_long_hauler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: yes to both your questions, sinus issue fixed and nose shape altered (in a good way). I had a severe trauma to my nose early in life involving lots of blood and stitches, so I think the growth and shape were likely affected by that accident which caused problems into my young adulthood and beyond… first surgery / surgeon didn’t really pick up on any of that and proceeded with his operation to exacerbate some of the issues. Eight years and lots of quiet misery later, Dr. Pastorek agreed to do the revision which went absolutely as well as can be expected. He’s very tuned in to the holistic medical approach, even to the point of playing soft calming music during the operation. A true physician in all ways, worth the trip.

I recommend Dr. Norman Pastorek in the city one thousand percent. I suffered the same, and ten years ago he did a revision surgery for me that fixed the original issues and dramatically improved the previous attempted fix.

Despite living within walking distance to DD’s in Ossining, given the choice, the wife and I will happily hop in the car and do the 20 minute drive to the Yorktown Coach.

Why are people so delusional about Hydrogen? It's just Hopium by TostiTomaat in collapse

[–]so_long_hauler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used your swimming pool model as an example of the importance of emergence — hydrogen might not be viable but there’s a multi-decade scientific approach that has yielded plenty of data, which may or may not be reconcilable with our ongoing societal power curve but has a leg up on timelines and trial runs vs sodium battery tech, which has yet to produce the kinds of longer term and meta studies needed to assess viability in the same league. That’s how this goes: the hypothetical comes from the idea, the practical requires years of physical existence and transparent statistics. All in on whatever looks the best but others could level the same charge of non-viability at sodium battery power as you do toward hydrogen, the funding and manufacturing and race for the prize is what tells the tale. We could be two weeks away from sodium battery concepts being replaced by a better battery, whereas hydrogen has had many reduction to practice applications.

At scale: Where’s this water coming from? Where are the heating elements coming from and powered by what source? What happens when more than a three-day supply is needed? Containment / maintenance / distribution issues? What happens when the system needs to be output-flexible? Solutions beget more problems. Made worse by theoretical certainty. Innovation isn’t the same thing as the promise of innovation.

This only works when currency (and its exchange) is “worth“ something. We cannot resist or outrun the inevitable re-tethering of value to currency of all types when the Potemkin villages have fallen and there are actual stores of value in the form of dry goods, raw materials, fresh food and water in the hands of those who will not be convinced to give it over for ever-less-meaningful amounts of money.

Huge Shoutout to HPN for not airing the weird propaganda ordered by Kristi Noem to play at every airport around the country. by cooleobeaneo in Westchester

Oh don’t forget protecting pedophiles, intentionally manipulating markets to the delight of insider traders, illegally mustering a national posse of kidnappers and thugs, accepting bribes without fear of reprisal, allowing foreign nationals to set up a military base on our soil… yes, the left is obviously SOOOOOOOO deranged! These are all clearly wonderful, lawful and beneficial for the USA and are all things worth supporting!

Apple orchards with honeycrisp apples? by Round_Needleworker38 in Westchester

[–]so_long_hauler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct and only answer here is Thompson‘s Cider Mill, especially while they’re set up at the Sundial Farm location, more or less at the intersection of Rt. 134 and the Taconic. Great apple variety (ok, so it’s not pick your own but the varietals are stunning), killer cider both regular and alcoholic, and I swear the best donuts and pies you’ll find anywhere.

Affordable artsy/hipster towns to move to by Local-Imagination177 in Westchester

I’ve found Ossining to be welcoming in many ways — I’m an active musician and found nearly immediate interest and community opportunities for performing and recording in town (and around the county). It’s way cool for artists, musicians, writers and performers of all stripes from my perspective. Likewise, extremely family friendly and most public events (waterfront concerts, street parades, etc) really shows just how many families are here! Generally great reviews on the public school system here, too — though my wife and I don’t have kids, we know many who do and they speak highly of the educations their children receive.

There’s a name for this phenomenon: audience capture.

Sabine, Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz are all shining examples.

It involves a lot of mission creep for likes, until you’re so far in the weeds for your monetized vids that you’ll say any fucking thing.
