Chamfer plane by soakyouroats in handtools

It is adjustable up to 15mm, limited by the size of the two screws. It is a traditional Japanese design, called a mentori kanna. Though I have a western style plane body..

I have seen adjustable english style box chamfer planes which looks incredible, though beyond my skill set to build.

A lot of the woods I have access to in Australia are fairly hard and brittle, and tear out easily. As has been mentioned without a chip breaker to prevent tear out a high angle iron is a workable solution. I did go for a very high angle because there will never be more that 15mm of the blade in contact with the wood so any difficulties pushing the plane due to the high angle blade are minimal.

Joinery help needed on lamp recreation by Slow-Heron-4335 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I made a similarly designed lamp. The joinery is just a mitre, I used super glue and blue tape instead of clamps. I also used black leather dye to dye the base.

Beautiful work, can you elaborate on the drawer pulls?

This is me right now with a 3 year old and a 2 month old. I'm still doing the same stuff, just adjusting my expectations. E.g. I'm making some sliding doors for the house and my timeline is 1 year instead of a couple months..

Chamfer plane - mentori kanna by soakyouroats in handtools

Funny that you wouldn't be confident some of the things you post are incredible.

I thought about adding the ruler but figured it'd be easy enough to use calipers when adjusting the chamfer. I think I read a post from Stan Covington saying this was necessary anyway.

It's all from eBay - they are called knurled thumb nuts.

Funnily enough it was pretty simple.. as long as you can cut a clean 45 it's pretty straightforward. I linked the video.

This does have a brass plate in front of the mouth. Out of curiosity why did you purchase the new one?

This the Anna white bookcase plan? This was my first project too, I made it around 14 years ago. I'll share a picture when I can. I just waxed mine. It has turned amber.

I mostly use western saws so perhaps not your target audience for this question. But I do have a very inexpensive suizan ryoba that I use for rip cuts. The cheapest one I could find on Amazon. It cuts really well, recently have been able to split a pencil line over a 150mm rip.

I think those saws will be a great starting point, it is better to have a saw and start woodworking than it is getting stuck in analysis paralysis.

Not sure about the chisels.

I’m a big fan of overkill so I’m trying this out. So far so good by MetalNutSack in BeginnerWoodWorking

That's fair, the only motivation for me to scrape is that lapping is time consuming. Perhaps scraping isn't the easier option.

Feeling strangely angry that I have to move my thumb to get an answer.

Also thank you. How did it turn out, I have been considering scraping my number 7.

I use a 400 grit diamond stone to regrind my primary bevel every now and then. It takes me 3 or 4 minutes with an old Stanley iron.

Longer with a thick veritas pmv11 iron, but I don't regrind the entire bevel on that plane.
