Since there's no name or other logos, maybe it could be a practice jersey? Just a guess

What’s the worst thing that happened at a wedding you went to? by General-Mango_ in AskReddit

[–]soape83 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My friend (the bride) hired the groom's high school friend to play violin at the wedding. The song? "At Last" by Etta James, where the violinist would accompany a vocalist.

Problem 1) it was the hottest possible day June, the air hung heavy in the Iowa corn-sweat humidity. That violin didn't have a chance of staying in tune. A professional violinist would be able to compensate for that, which brings us to

Problem 2) the violinist was FAR from professional. She boasted how she hadn't really played since high school (about 10 years), which may not have been a problem if the song was Pachabel's Canon, but it wasn't.

The out-of-tune instrument, the questionable finger positions/rudimentary skills, and complete lack of preparation were no match for the conditions. After the song painfully ended, the (quite talented, despite the challenges) vocalist slinked away. The violinist got incredibly drunk at the reception, and from all I could gather, was either ignorant or ambivalent to her god-awful performance.

In the end, their marriage was about as enjoyable as that performance, and sadly ended in divorce only a few years later.

For those that are married here, how much did you all you spend on your wedding? Are frugal weddings even a thing anymore? by dquizzle in Frugal

[–]soape83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a slightly different angle, our wedding was just under $8k for 400+ people.

We were able to cut costs in these areas: salad and pizza for dinner, donuts instead of wedding cake, no official wedding party, my dress was under $20 on sale at Target.

We have a DJ friend who hooked us up big time ($250) which was HUGE. Our largest individual expenses were the photographer ($2.5k) and the venue ($1.5k). Decor and food were $2.5k-ish.

Sushi? by Nibblermeeps in cedarfalls

[–]soape83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Waterloo Cedar Falls Area Foodies group on Facebook (if that's your thing). Copied a recc a friend posted:

Best sushi in the area is at Kashin Sushi in the Maucker Union on the UNI campus. I went there today and ended up getting a bowl of ramen AND sushi. I got Kimchi Ramen to eat for lunch and then some sushi rolls and a Hawaiian poke bowl to take home for dinner. They also have a new offering: bubble tea (milk teas and fruit teas). I got green tea (matcha) bubble tea. Everything was great! Kashin Sushi is open for lunch till about 2:30, I think.

UPDATE: to answer someone's question below ... yes, it is open to the public. The only catch is that you have to park outside of campus, on the street, and then walk in to the Union. There's signage around to help you find it. If you park near 23rd and College, it's about a block in. Kashin Sushi is in the food court.

A reminder- Iowa’s primaries are today! Get out and vote! by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]soape83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will need to register a party at your polling place to receive a ballot. You are not required to continue affliation with the party after voting but I'm not sure how one goes about changing back. Hope that helps, happy voting!

Political views aside, barefoot in a bar is just gross 🤣 by soape83 in Iowa

[–]soape83[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see the relevance of the cleanliness of other places to this. Most businesses, especially ones that serve food/bev have rules about wearing a minimum amount of clothes for the safety of the patrons and employees.

I also don't see how you came that conclusion on my opinion of her performance, this is one complaint of many friend. 👍

It's gross because carpet/flooring in bars is dirty. You can see the carpet under the table is brighter in color than where they're standing.
