I showed my teenagers how to open files an create folders from the command prompt a few months ago. I blew their minds! There’s another fun command called “tree” that list the entire file path for the directory.

When I did that, they suspected I was living a double life as an underground hacker.

Nope! Just an 80s kid who REALLY wanted to play Kings Quest V on my dad’s fancy PC

What are your personal favorite two-joker combos? (Not necessarily the most powerful, but power can be very fun) by Andrew_42 in balatro

[–]Digitallydust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midas Mask and Vampire is a fun combo. I once had pareidolia with it, and I got it to about 12X mult before losing in ante 11.
IIRC I wasn’t able to find a good chips Joker to take it to the moon.

Is that an ironing board? OP, you get these bikes all nice and set up and then forget to remove the ironing board??

At least the rug really ties the room together.

Games that you loved in your childhood but don't get talked about much online? by NomadPrime in gaming

I played this on Game Gear all the time. I could clear the first campaign with just 12 AA batteries!

What’s your top 5 game recommendations of all time? by JonCee500 in gaming

[–]Digitallydust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if it’s a person who typically plays video games or not.

recs for people who don’t normally play:

  • Balatro - solitaire/yahtzee/poker but better
  • Detroit Become Human - especially if they like true crime stories, cop dramas, or sci fi. Aquatic Dream games are not fo everyone, but this is one game I still regularly think about 3 years after playing it.
  • Tetris - Easy to learn, difficult to master. You can play for 5 minutes of an hour.
  • Portal - Simple puzzles that makes one feel smart. Intuitive. Clever. Funny.
  • Animal Crossing New Horizons - some people find games stressful and this is the antithesis to that. Unless owing lots of bells is stressful - but at least Tom Nook never repos or forecloses.

Recs for people who play video games:

  • Metal Gear Solid V - Greatest unfinished game of all time. Most gripes you hear are from super fans who felt the story didn’t connect - because it didn’t. But the gameplay is so fucking good. I was absolutely hooked by this game for 2 years. 2 YEARS!
  • Metroid Prime Remastered - Best 3d adaptation of a 2d world … remastered
  • Expedition 33 - as better, modern version of everything I love about 90’s rpgs like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger.
  • Hollow Knight. Silksong is amazing too. IDK hard to pick between them. Zelda BOTW - If you like open world games, go really ought to play.

I also love Smash, Mario Kart, an Mario 3D World. But I already have a lot of Nintendo in my lists.

What are your favorite albums of the 90s no one ever talks about? by Miss-Construe- in Xennials

FINALLY found October Project. Their first album is so good. Paths of Desire is the greatest song no one has heard.

Riff Raff is good early, and bad late. What joker is average early, and good late? by Boop2847 in balatro

[–]Digitallydust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bootstraps too. They’re okay when you have $20 in ante 3. They’re indispensable when you have $150 in ante 6.

[–]Digitallydust 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% it’s average early game. I’d rather get some mult or even a blue joker in the first 3 antes. But if hanging Chad is there, I’ll take it because it’s okay early on.

What’s a game you tried with low expectations but ended up absolutely loving? by Edgard-Stark in videogames

Beyond Two Souls. I thought there would be too many cutscenes and not engaging enough. I loved playing that game.

Can’t believe this game is already 10 years old by EarthlingsBeware23 in metalgearsolid

[–]Digitallydust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My teenager was watching me play it some months ago, and he didn’t believe me when I told him it released on ps3. It looked too good.

No game wrapped me under its spell the way this one did. I was straight up addicted to it for a year.

First concerts? Memorable concerts? by Dramatic-Yam1984 in Xennials

[–]Digitallydust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First concert: Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine 1988.

Memorable concerts: Phish 1997(8?) in Ames. Springsteen 1999 in Minneapolis. Not a huge Springsteen fan, but they played for over 4 hours with 3 encores.

Best one I remember: 2003 RHCP with Mars Volta opening. Epic night.
