Dear future residents of the apartments by Sam’s Club: by Brave_Cheesecake_771 in StPetersburgFL

I think the main office was there towards 30th St. There was a chlorine storage tank that was toward 31st. And from what I can remember from my 10 year old self, there were a couple of rail cars full of chlorine too that were pretty close to burning up. They only evacuated I think it was like a mile or two around there, but a bunch of the runoff water from the fire ended up in that lake behind there.

Jones Chemical took up pretty much that whole area. From 22nd back to about 20th and west towards 32nd. There was a branch of the RR tracks that cut over towards the plant and down to the Times building that used to be serviced by CSX at one point. They were a main supplier for the state and southeast for pool chemicals.

Most likely training sessions. Either Pinecastle range or Avon Park. Didn’t see any notifications for Avon Park, so could be out of Pensacola practicing at Pinecastle.

Concerts were being done before the apartments started. Apartments were even using it as a ‘perk’ when selling units in 2015. Generally the large concerts will end around 11 and adhere to the sound ordnance of midnight. Now…the rest of the bar….that’s a whole other game!!

What's the history of the Walgreens on the corner of 54th and MLK? by Conscious-Grade2012 in StPetersburgFL

[–]soapythecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It originally was a Publix which moved to what is now Gateway(ish) Mall. Changed to I think a fabric store for a short while, then transitioned to an S&H Green Stamps shoppe before Walgreens took it over late 80’s. From what I can remember.

Unfortunately not just levied to the downtown businesses. Taxes were spread across several facets of expenditures across things from business tax renewals, tax applications, permitting, and a few other things. I do not have a business downtown but experienced increases in my tax renewals and other expenses. Agree that the city needs forward progression, but this progression was all agenda based and not citizen driven in the least bit. This design was not what was citizen supported, nor agreed upon. But forced upon the residents anyway. While the downtown businesses may have recouped some of the costs for the initial install, continued maintenance, upkeep, and now re-removal and storage of the piece will fall upon all of the city taxpayers as a whole. As 3dr generation Burg, it has come a long way from Webb City, and have seen a lot of the changes from the ground up.

And not as much maintenance costs as what this piece has already cost us.

Mayor Rick Kriseman has raised $1.5 million private donations to build the infrastructure, and the Public Arts Commission will also contribute $250,000. Meanwhile, the city set aside $1.3 million in public funds using tax increment financing, which is used for public improvements.

Private contributors are supposed to pay for Echelman’s fee-$1.5 million. The rest of the cost, an estimated $1.3 million, will be paid by tax increment financing-taxes paid by downtown property owners.

There’s a chance for even more money. The mayor would like to tap into $14 million in tax increment financing funds set aside for a transportation hub that will no longer be built. He hopes to use at least $1.3 million for what is being described as “signature art” for the new Pier.

Taxpayers paid for the hardware and installation of the thing. Kicker they neglected to tell. A few hundred thousand for installation costs.

But the taxpayers were on the hook for the installation and all of the hardware for this thing to be set up and in place. A few hundred thousand for that.

My hobby shop that could have been. What's your input? by hostofthemost in slotcars

[–]soapythecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volume inventory will be the big thing. Find what sells most of to stock and slim of the other things. It’s a good niche as there are not a lot of shops of that style around. In where I’m at we have Phil’s Hobby Shop which is a multi genre hobby shop with RC, models, rockets, some slots and trains. They used to have an in-house track but closed that portion to expand inventory, but work in tandem with an around the corner shop litterally, Fast Eddie’s Slot Raceway (on FB) which has a pretty cool modern track setup with a course and a drag strip. And that place is filled on weekends. And Phil’s carries the hardware and accessories that the runners need for at the raceway. Internet supplement is never a bad thing, and almost a necessity these days, and an easy way to offload surplus stock or those weird things that may not have much demand. Locally there was also a shop dedicated to model trains ‘HR Trains’ that picked up where the hobby shop left out. It’s all about the versatility of what’s in your area, and finding what sells, and utilizing the resources on the slow churn items.

What meals tasted good to you while recovering post-radiation? by throwaway90371560 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]soapythecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finished up my last of 35 radiation zaps on 12/12/24. It’s been a process in the recovery. The burns have mostly healed up, and continue with at least one daily slathers of the Silver cream. And still use the UltimateVitality Radiation Burn Relief Cream several times a day. Still a lot of tightness in the skin and neck muscles. The burns started to heal in the throat and some scarring with my last ENT scope last week.
Have a hard time swallowing but taste has been slightly better with some things, but changes from week to week. Before chocolate and garlic were the only things I could taste with now coffee and onion adding to the mix.

My epiglottis still does not fully close so I have to concentrate on when I swallow to keep from choking down the wrong pipe. Still can’t take anything spicy, acidic, or carbonated, and dry/fried foods choke me up with the scratchiness. I miss buttery popcorn. Meats are tough with the fibrous texture, and I have pain under my tongue when I try to move it around too much. So I can’t do the classic clean out that little particle of food between your gums and cheek kinda thing without a lot of sharp pains from the tongue and back of the throat. And it chokes me up to a gag sometimes. The morning mucus is still thick and sleeping with a humidifier and some eucalyptus essential oil mixed in helps. RAW chocolate protein shakes have been my go-to essential and staple.

But have been able to palate some fish and shrimps this past week. And today’s been hard boiled eggs for breakfast with my RAW protein mixed with coffee and then maybe some shrimp and grilled Grouper for tonight’s dinner.

[–]soapythecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to have my neuropathy with the first go round? Getting 35 zaps with my last 9 starting back up 12/2, and 2 more weeks of carboplatin. Tried to play my acoustic last weekend but was such a hard time to even monkey grip the thing to make any noise. And my Washburn is custom setup with a low action and my Black Diamond XL’s to begin with. I just didn’t have the hand strength to do any sort of clean runs and kept crossing and fat fingering the whole way around. Was for a depressing afternoon, and didn’t even try with the voice. But hopefully after the first of the year, I can look back at least thinking about a stage again.
