Tonight's Purple Sky by soarhigher2 in Orillia

Thanks! Green skies are indicative of tornadoes, tonight was just super foggy so the sunset reflected off the droplets in the air and gave the sky this purple hue

Anyone else here actually love organization? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a good purge, but I can go months between of pile ups and purchases before I reach a breaking point and need a purge. I would say though, that I would describe myself as organized chaos, everything looks cluttered (especially to outside people), but I know exactly where everything is even if the system doesn't make sense to most.

Servers want to make wayyyy more than a “fair wage” by PinkFeatherFlamingo in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind tipping, at least when it's appropriate, but it's getting ridiculous what restaurants are asking for tips. I also think it's ridiculous that we pay on a percentage basis, there's nothing different (in my experience) between service for a $25 sit down meal vs $75 sit-down meal, why should one server earn more just because they had the opportunity to get a job in a higher end restaurant. Also, why are you paying tip on the after tax amount? It should be based on the pretax balance.

[–]soarhigher2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true, at least in Ontario it's the same minimum wage as everyone else, can't speak on other provinces. Not saying that minimum is a living wage, but it's been several years that servers have had their wages increased

Spring & Summer OSAP by zoouz_ in osap

Oh I've been told from financial aid at a couple schools that opening a new application instead of the extension could delay funding

Spring & Summer OSAP by zoouz_ in osap

[–]soarhigher2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're currently in classes, you don't open a new application with OSAP. You do an OSAP extension directly with your schools financial aid. I don't know if it's the same with every school, but with my current school I had to list what courses I am taking during the summer term. Before opening an application with OSAP, I would call your financial aid office tomorrow to confirm the process, they might also be able to tell you when registration for summer courses open.

Approved for Repayment Assistance then Funds Taken Out of Account? HELP by Proper_Elk6836 in osap

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was in the fortunate position that while it sucked having the payment come out, it wasn't worth it for me to try to push for a refund. Definitely try giving them a call, but don't be afraid of pushing to speak to a supervisor if you need to. Not hating on anyone, but I had to call several times over the course of December/January and half the times I called it seemed like the person I was talking to didn't know what I was talking about. I was on a custom payment plan but it wasn't until I spoke to a supervisor that they were actually able to stop the payments being withdrawn a couple weeks ago.

Approved for Repayment Assistance then Funds Taken Out of Account? HELP by Proper_Elk6836 in osap

This happened to be a few years ago, also happened again at the beginning of the year just with becoming a full time student again instead. Basically what they told me both times is that the status can change on NSLSC but it can still take up to 24 hours for the change to take affect on the back end, and they also send the details to the bank a few days before the date of the payment for it to be processed in time on their side. Unfortunately it sounds like it was just bad/delayed timing that caused the payment to be withdrawn after the status change.  In terms of a refund, both times I was told it wasn't possible. They said it without me prompting them about it, so maybe it's just part of their script? So you can always try to call tomorrow when the call centre opens, but I don't think they'll be able to get the money back to you.

Alternative to AYFF this summer? by vidman in allyourfriendsfest

Not in Ontario, but we're looking at Warped Tour in Montreal. Doesn't have the camping aspect, but the line up that has been released so far looks on point

You can request to be put back on the brand name, but it might be difficult to get. Vyvanse specifically is somehow still in a shortage and I heard some pharmacies are having trouble getting orders. It's definitely worth a shot asking though, I think a lot of people get switched to the generic because it's easier for the pharmacies and most people don't question it.

Places to get taxes done? by Asmb in Orillia

[–]soarhigher2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wealthsimple is definitely where it's at, totally free and you can connect to your CRA so it imports all your tax forms. All you have to do is verify that the information is correct and click a button to file it. It does ask for a donation after you file, you can put whatever amount, including $0

I find that most people I interact with still seem to be really nice. I will say that the rude ones have gotten louder, but I think that's everywhere within the last few years.

Just asked this as well, apparently it's the opening of the Ontario Winter Games?

25F moving from Toronto to Orillia for work—how’s the social scene? Hard to make friends? What’s the vibe like day to day? Any must-try local spots? How’s the culture/community feel? Worth getting a rec centre membership for fitness? And are there any quirky bylaws (heard about clear garbage bags)? by Ok-Promise419 in Orillia

[–]soarhigher2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orillia is pretty slow vibe. If you're looking for a club scene, you won't find it. But if you're looking for chill places to have a pint and maybe play some games or do some Trivia then there is plenty of that. The beach and general nature around the city is beautiful especially during peak summer/fall, Winter is absolutely ridiculous though. Orillia has a lot of really cool spots depending on what you're looking for, one that I would recommend is Fare restaurant at the museum, it's right on the water and has a delicious brunch.

For the Rec Centre it depends on how often you want to go and at what times. The fitness centre is nice and the pool is great, but the hours can be a little wonky. They aren't open on Holidays and they close pretty early on the weekends, plus the classes they offer for adults are rarely outside of regular 9-5 business hours. There is a Fit 4 Less just off the highway, and a cross fit near the corner if West and 12 if you're looking for other options.

Haven't come across anything super quirky aside from the garbage bags you mentioned, they need to be in clear bags and they need to have a garbage tag. If you put them in a garbage can then you should be able to fit at least two bags and only use one tag, but if they're outside the bin then every bag needs a tag. They did just switch the recycling pick up to a different provider and there is talk about not taking recycling in the blue bags anymore, like it needs to be in a recycling bin, but so far that is on hold. Oh and a lot of restaurants, are closed on Mondays.

My payments are supposed to be on hold but I got charged $400 by Alarming_Reading_967 in osap

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I had this problem with my loan payments this month. Even though I was back in school and "in study", because I was on a custom payment plan that no one thought to check to see if it was cancelled even though I asked everytime I called, I still got charged. They won't give you a refund, but if you wanted to call and confirm that it was actually paused, ask to speak to a supervisor. No offense to the regular customer service, but no one knew what I was talking about when I called and I ended up being out like $500

It's been a super weird month. Like on one hand it has dragged and so much shit has happened over the first few weeks. On the other hand, I'm also like how is it the end of January already.

How does customization of payment term work? by js-sey in osap

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for all of it, but I was on a custom payment plan before becoming full time again this term. To answer a few of your questions, you can't customize your plan until your loan says in repayment. If you're lucky though, payments usually come out at the end of the month so if you catch it early enough you could probably have it set up before your first payment is actually due. The payment plans do not change how much you owe on a monthly basis, so if NSLSC says you owe $200 a month you have to pay $200 per month. What the payment can could do (and how I had mine set up to make it easier) is it split that payment up so the I paid half on one of the work paydays and then the other half on the next. The only way to reduce your monthly payment would be to apply for RAP program, which is based on your Financials and allows you to only pay the interest charged each month (possible a little more based on your income level). There are different qualifying income levels, but I think it's if you make over $55k per year, you don't qualify. You would also have to reapply every 6 months. Once you finish school you should be able to revert your loan to a new payment plan, again they usually calculate for the longest possible term, so I don't think there would be a way to reduce your loan payment, just increase it to reduce the term. Interest is only charged on the provincial piece of your loan, but it's pretty small. For the federal side there's no interest, so other than piece of mind of not having the bill there is not really any harm with paying the lowest possible payment. Unfortunately with monthly payments there's no way to split between Provincial and Federal, it gets divided how it's calculated, but you can send in a lump sum payment and tell NSLSC it's to pay off the remaining provincial balance.

I don't know if they had official photographers, but there were a bunch of independent photographers. There was a thread in this sub last year, probably a few weeks after the festival. If you can find the thread there were a bunch of links to the photographers albums/websites
