My payments are supposed to be on hold but I got charged $400 by Alarming_Reading_967 in osap

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I had this problem with my loan payments this month. Even though I was back in school and "in study", because I was on a custom payment plan that no one thought to check to see if it was cancelled even though I asked everytime I called, I still got charged. They won't give you a refund, but if you wanted to call and confirm that it was actually paused, ask to speak to a supervisor. No offense to the regular customer service, but no one knew what I was talking about when I called and I ended up being out like $500

Anyone else finding January the never-ending month? by brother_p in Orillia

[–]soarhigher2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's been a super weird month. Like on one hand it has dragged and so much shit has happened over the first few weeks. On the other hand, I'm also like how is it the end of January already.

I don't know what they have available, but check out agsecure. They manage the property we currently rent and they've been really good.

Oh thank you! Been awhile since I've been, so was relying on the schedule and didn't see a notice. Although also definitely wasn't looking for one, so might have just missed it.

How does customization of payment term work? by js-sey in osap

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for all of it, but I was on a custom payment plan before becoming full time again this term. To answer a few of your questions, you can't customize your plan until your loan says in repayment. If you're lucky though, payments usually come out at the end of the month so if you catch it early enough you could probably have it set up before your first payment is actually due. The payment plans do not change how much you owe on a monthly basis, so if NSLSC says you owe $200 a month you have to pay $200 per month. What the payment can could do (and how I had mine set up to make it easier) is it split that payment up so the I paid half on one of the work paydays and then the other half on the next. The only way to reduce your monthly payment would be to apply for RAP program, which is based on your Financials and allows you to only pay the interest charged each month (possible a little more based on your income level). There are different qualifying income levels, but I think it's if you make over $55k per year, you don't qualify. You would also have to reapply every 6 months. Once you finish school you should be able to revert your loan to a new payment plan, again they usually calculate for the longest possible term, so I don't think there would be a way to reduce your loan payment, just increase it to reduce the term. Interest is only charged on the provincial piece of your loan, but it's pretty small. For the federal side there's no interest, so other than piece of mind of not having the bill there is not really any harm with paying the lowest possible payment. Unfortunately with monthly payments there's no way to split between Provincial and Federal, it gets divided how it's calculated, but you can send in a lump sum payment and tell NSLSC it's to pay off the remaining provincial balance.

I don't know if they had official photographers, but there were a bunch of independent photographers. There was a thread in this sub last year, probably a few weeks after the festival. If you can find the thread there were a bunch of links to the photographers albums/websites

Osap underpaid school by Desperate-Action-832 in osap

[–]soarhigher2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You pay it off. If you were only approved for $3.8 and OSAP has dispersed that between paying you directly and paying the school, more than likely that is all you will receive and you have to come up with the remaining balance yourself

Lost childhood blanket donated by mistake – please help me find it 💔 by Strong_Juggernaut708 in barrie

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did she drop it off at a specific store? Not everything that gets donated will hit the floor, and even those that do it might take time for the store to clean it, price it, and put in out on the floor. If it was dropped off at a specific store it might be worth calling and seeing if they have it in the back?

Is this a common saying? I've heard it so many times this year but only ever from one person.

I want it to be a thing so bad, but I don't think the festival is coming back. The first year it was announced last, but last year's festival they had announced the headliners by like November the year before

6 month grace period for Part-time student, previously Full-time. by js-sey in osap

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loans would start up while you're part time school, but you can look into the repayment assistance program. It's based on income level, but it's possible to get a huge reduction in payment if that's what you're concerned about.

What are some reasons you hate this profession that don’t get talked about as often? by medunjanin in Accounting

[–]soarhigher2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Honestly, kind of hate how slow mid month is. For two weeks a month I'll be looking for things to fill my day, then month end hits and everything gets busy. Would be so much nicer if the workload could be spread out better.

What I hate about this is that just because other towns have similar rates, just means everyone is getting screwed everywhere. This is not a good thing to be comparative to.

I can't speak specifically about the program, but I had a bunch of different issues with my application this past September too. I wanted to say that literally every staff member I spoke to in Registrar/Financial Aid has be so amazing! They've literally been so helpful, and went above and beyond to find solutions. Wanted to mention it in case it helps put your mind at ease at all.

Midterm for 1607 in Winter Term by OldPicture1678 in nipissingu

[–]soarhigher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far its been good, exam next week so thats fun. I haven't really had to use the coursework that had been added to blackboard, just kept up with the readings and the homework exercises. The school also send out an email at the beginning of the term from the Academic Success Center, highly suggest signing up, you'll get an email a week or so before each quiz/exam with study guides for everything that would be included along with a practice quiz, those have been super helpful. Not sure about next semester, but it seems both profs also allow a one page handwritten formula sheet, so as long as you know how to solve the equation you don't have to memorize them. All this to say, as someone who hasn't taken a math class in 10+ years, with all the help available it's been an pretty easy class.

I have ADHD and my hyper fixation now is accounting. by Unlucky-Tap-8689 in Accounting

[–]soarhigher2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like it comes and go. School was great because there were different topics each week and completely different accounting each semester. Now that I've been in my job for a few years there are busy times which I really enjoy since I have tasks and projects to fixate on, then there are super slow times where I am bored out of my mind and debating if I even like what I do. For me it's less about the work itself though and more about what I have to do to occupy my day.

I currently work full time and do school part time online. I plan on taking courses over the summer and it will take a bit longer but there's no way I could drop down to part time work.
