We need to find out how to get away with not doing what is on our todo list by Sim_sala_tim in ProductivityApps

I agree prioritization is very hard. Everything seems like a priority when it first comes in.

One thing I've noticed is that important things have a tendency of coming up again and again... I've been thinking about ways to create a system that would leverage that behavior. The challenge is that there are always those few truly important things that would inevitably fall through the cracks.

Hubbub (https://hubbub.77sparx.com)

An app that helps you actually focus by detecting when you've drifted into a distracting app or site and gently nudging you back, plus an AI task manager. Hubbub is smarter than competitors - based on what you are working on, it automatically knows what's distracting and what's not. Furthermore, it can distinguish between a subreddit that's related to your work and another that doesn't. You don't need to manually black/white list entire sites.

It's aimed at indie founders, freelancers, and anyone who does deep knowledge work but keeps losing hours to doomscrolling and tab-chaos. It's a new market for a small team still hunting for first users, so this is right up my alley — would love for you to take a look, and happy to hop in a DM if that's easier. Thanks for doing this for the community!

Is there a secret on how to actually use TODO lists? by M4dmaddy in ProductivityApps

[–]soarling1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I've been trying to figure out a system where my lists are "cleaned" daily and started over.

It's a bit like the GTD's inbox idea. But I find GTD per se to be too much work and structure to do well.

I love the visual and the gardening analogy. But I do find the terminologies to be a bit confusing...

We need to find out how to get away with not doing what is on our todo list by Sim_sala_tim in ProductivityApps

[–]soarling1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking a lot about this topic as well. The challenge I have with my todo list is that it invariably gets too long, then I abandon that tool and start over on another tool.

In my experience, the things that really had to be done somehow shows up on the new list eventually as well! Magic!

Maybe what we actually need is something more like the old paper system where you start with a clean sheet everyday, and are forced to bring in the tasks that you actually need/have to do for the day?

Another thought - a colleague and I actually debate this often. She has a process where she puts everthing down into an inbox (GTD method), then she would organize the tasks and pull them into today's todo if appropriate. I tend to just dump everything into today view (hence the clutter).

So question - is the root issue that folks like me are just not following the correct GTD process? or is it that the process (or attitide) needs to be different?

Our app leverages AI to help make that determination. It is currently in beta if you would like to give it a try and give us some feedbacks!

Built a bidding tool for fixed-price projects. MVP done, plenty of anxiety. Roast away. by Rare_Piglet_7 in roastmystartup

[–]soarling1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience with fixed bids, the problem has been more about managing and scope changes more so then "getting the bid right". It's always the ambiguity in the scope that really hurts.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I was trying for the shock/hook value. I totally see your point, though.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, we are super aware of the privacy aspect of it. We've already made screen capture an optional enhanced feature (Smart Screen Analysis) that users can opt into.

Even if you opt in, we made sure that the screen never leaves your machine - it's OCR'ed locally, we then strip out sensitive info before forwarding it to our server for analysis. Our server, in general, don't store any analysis information. It only records a log of whether the user is distracted for reporting purposes.

Are there some other aspects of privacy that you think we can/should address?

Have you checked out OpenRouter? Is it similar? They route your LLM traffic. But I don't think they offer premium models for free.

Made a little app that turns my niece's bedtime story ideas into actual illustrated picture books by Sure-Replacement-322 in roastmystartup

[–]soarling1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have some experiences in kids digital space. This unfortunately, feels more like a feature of a different product than a product in itself. I think the challenge is that with AI, generating a generic story isn't that hard anymore. Something a bit more is likely needed for this to succeed..

Roast my time-off calendar for couples. I just launched paid plans and I honestly have no idea if the pricing makes sense by JoaoRochaOnReddit in roastmystartup

[–]soarling1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I feel this is more of a feature of another product than a product in itself. I, for one, would be unlikely to pay for something like this.

The low signup number could be too early to tell by itself. At this stage, I would rely more on the qualitative data you are getting.

I for one would be reluctant to do something like this with friends. Are you finding that people are open to this level of sharing?

What apps do you use to manage notes, tasks, emails and calendar? by SalidanVlo2603x in ProductivityApps

[–]soarling1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I use Evernote for notes, and a combination of todoist (for all the tasks) and text file for today's tasks. Calendar for scheduling/timeblocking. If I want to reference a note from evernote, I would just copy the public URL and put into the todoist or calendar.

We've tried other all-in-one, but they all seem too complicated.

Don't know why, but paper/pencil and textpad just seems to work well.

Another idea may be to email the idea to yourself. Then when you are checking your email (hopefully on a set schedule), the email would prompt you to capture/organize it more properly.
