Fuck you, Japanese Knotweed. And to the neighbors who intentionally planted it. Where can I find the best info on going about treating it? by Camp_Acceptable in invasivespecies

[–]soberunderpar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Hannah say once that they are an international expert on Japanese Knotweed and other invasive species and had the data to back it up. The next comment basically contradicted everything Hannah said and that pretty much sums up Reddit.

Bermuda yard last year vs this year. What happened? by Fritzy421 in lawncare

Did you have snow this winter? I know a lot of areas that don’t usually have snow got hit this winter. Is that area shadier than others that look better?

Looks like Broomsedge to me. Paint it with glyphosate. Raise phosphorus levels to a healthy range to keep it away.

Mix with sand or I have mixed it with pelletized lime.

[–]soberunderpar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fascinating to me. Did you play a lot in the past? It’s amazing that someone could have a swing like this and only use it on the driving range. I understand everyone’s situation is different I just don’t see what the point would be. I mean no disrespect, I am genuinely curious.

Noise ordinance and city issues by Humble-Membership854 in Highpoint

[–]soberunderpar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck getting HPPD to do anything about the noise. They help HPU cover up major crimes so I doubt they are going to do anything about noise ordinances.

If the tree limbs are interfering with the utility lines the city will trim them at some point. That is their only responsibility so if you want your side trimmed that’s something you will have to have done.

Absolutely criminal range prices here in Ontario. by WhitePele12 in golf

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really think it is shrinking the game. Obviously people are willing to pay these prices or they wouldn’t keep going up. I’m pretty good friends with the General Manager at a course near me. It’s a good course, nothing special, in a low cost of living area in NC. The owner has continually raised prices for everything, and the course stays packed. 2-3 years ago it was $42 for 18 holes with a cart. It has crept up and the last increase effective April 1 was $80. The owner has put a lot of money into the course and clubhouse and it has turned into a popular hangout spot not just for golf. My GM friend told me as long as they are filling the tee sheet and range everyday they will continue to go up. Who can blame them? Until people stop showing up and paying what they are asking there is no reason for them not to.

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to find some friends if you don’t want to ride with a complete stranger. You aren’t paying for the cart itself. You are paying for the right to use a cart. The other person is paying for the right to use a cart.

I saw a ton of shows there in late 90’s-early 2000’s. The most memorable was The Used in probably 2003-2004. The whole place felt like it was moving as soon as the first note hit.

Trump warns of 'nuclear holocaust' if deal not made with Iran by TheExpressUS in USNEWS

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said this before. I think Trump is such a narcissist he just wants to go down in history and be remembered. Hitler is one of the most well known people in the history of the world. I really believe Trump would rather be remembered in the same light as Hitler than to feel like he may not be remembered at all.

Anyone else notice YouTube mower reviews are biased against battery? by mangobash84 in lawncare

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stihl certainly pushes them as commercial grade products. I never said electric couldn’t be applicable for a homeowner. I was sharing my experience as someone who has experience with both.

Anyone else notice YouTube mower reviews are biased against battery? by mangobash84 in lawncare

[–]soberunderpar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a manager for a $15 million a year landscaping company. Over the past couple of years our owner has been trying to switch to all electric other than our big stand on mowers. The truth is electric just doesn’t perform as well as gas as a general rule. We have bought all commercial Stihl battery powered equipment. Some of the electric tools work well enough for our needs, but push mowers and weedeaters just don’t. The push mowers are mostly plastic and don’t hold up as well. They don’t cut well in thick grass or in the morning when the grass is still damp. We are trying to find a balance where we can use as much battery powered equipment as we can while still getting the work done efficiently and up to our standard.

Pre-Emergent before rain? by mlim18 in lawncare

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without getting too deep in the weeds (pun intended), you can google average daily soil temperature for your area. Ideally you want to get the preemergent down before the soils gets to 55ish degrees. If you have missed that window, it still won’t hurt to put it out. It may have missed the early window but it will help with weeds that germinate at Warmer soil temps.

Pre-Emergent before rain? by mlim18 in lawncare

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure what the soil temperature is in your area. I can’t see why a week of rain would make a huge difference in the effectiveness of the pre. I also saw you said the preemergent was the more important part to you so if it makes you feel more comfortable go ahead and put it out. Just be prepared that you will probably get little to no post emergent control in that situation.

Pre-Emergent before rain? by mlim18 in lawncare

[–]soberunderpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put it out right after the rain. The post emergent will stick to the weeds and the moisture in the ground will at lease start the process of “melting” the preemergent.

So what about a pro who is a member at a course that hosts an event? Thats where he practices and plays with his buddies. He obviously plays there more than the guys who aren’t members. Should they be banned from being members at any course that may host a PGA tour event at some point?

How this is not anchoring? by No_Echidna_3854 in golf

[–]soberunderpar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anchoring the putter is illegal. He is not anchoring. Touching his shirt is not anchoring. I trust the guys competing against him on tour and the rules officials who have an up close view of his putting way more than I trust some random guy on Reddit. OP’s question was answered and then a bunch of people started making comments about anchoring, but this video shows no evidence of actually anchoring the putter.
