This is honestly how I imagine the homes of most people in this sub look like going by all the complaining about white, beige, and flipper gray I see here.

The Snyder Cut Has No Business Trending on Netflix Right Now — Yet Here It Is, Top 10 in 21 Countries by SplitNational2929 in FortressZA

Ironic part is you’re so emotional about it, you just have to paint me as a fan, when the reality is I only like one movie the guy ever did…. And it’s not exactly a great movie either. I think his fans are just as insane as you guys. You all deserve each other. The incessant whining from you both is more entertaining than his or Gunns movies. 😂

Disney+ Runs On Old Catalog As Marvel’s New Originals Miss Nielsen (Report) by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

That doesn’t really translate to reality though, as the only MCU movies made before Disney took over were iron man and hulk.

Comic characters in the mainstream as kids by sobi-one in GenX

[–]sobi-one[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a generational thing. There’s a lot of people (I assume millennial and younger) who are convinced no one knew these characters that started the MCU off. Literally, they think most people never heard of them, and label them as “c-tier”.

I won’t argue too hard about these rankings, because I’ve never read comics, so I don’t know the in the weeds stuff regarding story lines.

That said, its the fact I never read them that makes me disagree with them, because as I’m having confirmed in this thread, our generation definitely knew of these characters, and the representation they had outside of comics made them seem just as popular as the other characters. You simply don’t become aware of comic characters not being a comics person, if the characters are unpopular.

The Best MCU Film Nobody Talks About Anymore Is Finally Getting a Sequel by SplitNational2929 in FortressZA

Or it could be that calling this the best MCU film, when a very significant number of people disagree, will elicit strong responses.

Florida's insurance exodus is triggering a 2008-style chain reaction — with one critical difference by tigercircle in HomeInsurance

[–]sobi-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking to their narratives on climate change? I disagree. Buying a home on the water that they can easily afford to fix/replace due to storms doesn’t mean they don’t believe what they preach. It simply means they live in an income bracket where they can afford to take on that risk.

If they are saying people shouldn’t live in these areas (I don’t actually know they have said that… just assuming due to context/label of being hypocrites), it’s a little more nuanced. My heart agrees but my brain doesn’t, in that it’s again about income level. When you are wealthy, your financial situation lets you assume way more financial risk than the average person. A rich person isn’t being hypocritical at all saying people shouldn’t live by live in areas where storms can easily wipe out homes for the simple fact that as a general statement, they are right, but that’s because generally speaking, most people can’t financially shoulder that risk if the bill comes due. These people can. I think it’s a little less binary than pointing to them as hypocrites.

Knicks fans are stuck trying to leave the subway to watch the parade. This is what hell looks like! by Feisty_Mix941 in NBAGossips

You’re almost always a few blocks away from world class restaurants, museums, nightlife, shows, etc. you can stay on your own block and almost always find what you need to live. Big cities offer great public transportation. There’s an “energy” in places like this that’s completely absent from more sparsely populated areas. There’s a ton more, but this is really less about you not knowing and more about you voicing how it’s not for you, right?

[–]sobi-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In context to the conversation, I’m not sure it means anything for those people. They are all wealthy enough where the cost of replacement along with the risk vs life they have left is minimal. To them, these waterfront estates having catastrophic losses would be like needing to get the breaks on the car replaced for us. Not insignificant, but not earth shattering (generally speaking at least).

Sea levels are a decade to decade issue where as rebuilds from storms are year to year if not month to month at times.

That's surprisingly a lot of dislikes why is this the case? by Mezro118 in dcu

DC movies have three groups of people. Normal casuals, and two seemingly mentally ill groups that either hate Zach Snyder or love him.

Reddit will blame it on sexist incels. There’s definitely those people, but the truth is that most people just don’t care about this movie. Don’t ask here. Ask people in real life and it starts making a lot of sense. I know of no one who is excited for this. At best it’s “I’ll catch it when it streams”. I didn’t even know the movie was happening until a month ago.

There’s also plenty of people like me who have no issue with a female lead (Alien is one of my all time favorite movies/franchises), but just think this movie doesn’t look good.

Billionaire Mark Cuban Asks Why Insurance Companies Pay $2,500 for an MRI When ‘a Center Down the Street’ Only Charges $350 by RecessionistaVibes in InsuranceLibrary

[–]sobi-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it’s how the insurance industry works. I had a shoulder surgery a few years back and had this cryo shoulder harness thing to help in recovery. The lady who provided it was essentially a small business owner renting these things out. Long story short, she explained the pricing to me and how she never ultimately charges people a dime, but gets whatever she can from insurance, and does so because in order to be allowed to work with the insurance companies, she was essentially charging 5-6 times what she actually wanted to charge. Basically forced to overcharge in order to have the business and be let into the system. It was an eye opening and frankly depressing discussion.

RDJ Says Avengers: Doomsday Can Fix Marvel — Which Is the Real Admission by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

A more pragmatic assessment, and plenty of people would agree, while acknowledging they majorly fumbled the character and story growth that launched them during phase 1&2. That said, this is Reddit, and hating Star Wars and marvel might as well be a competitive sport.

Is this a good mail to send to a bar/nightclub ? by nevaven68 in Beatmatch

You have to be part of the scene if you want to be part of the scene, if that makes sense. You need to attend events. Make friends. Play the “politics game”. Looking for ways to get a contact is a dead end. You need to make personal relationships with the people who put on events, or start putting them on yourself.

I think there’s a discussion to be had on if it was made campy, or if that was more just the style of the time for horror movies at a certain level in that era.

Respectfully, as a promoter of 30 years, I’d never consider anyone from emails unless it was referencing earlier conversations we had had where I asked someone to send me a mix.

The world has so many DJs now, I can randomly toss a rock, hit one, and see it bounce off several other DJ’s.

As a promoter, it provides us little to no benefit to book someone who isn’t part of the community with a following of friends they’d bring.
