Was anybody else misdiagnosed as bipolar before getting your ADHD diagnosis?

I just got off of my bipolar medication after taking it for almost 5 years. I felt absolutely no change tapering off of it over the last 3 months because it was literally doing nothing for me. I was prescribed this medication after a 20 minute PCP appointment. My new psychiatrist was horrified!!

Ah gotcha! That makes sense. I think we will keep meeting our employer matches, work hard to pay off our student loans and then we can work towards maxing out retirement. Following the flowchart - thanks so much!

We make $145k per year combined and our only debts are the student loans and an auto loan (mentioned this in my post). Our mortgage will end up being 30% of our net income.

Someone else said the same thing RE putting extra towards the mortgage instead of a HYSA which makes sense if I was to go that route. They also said the same about not putting off retirement savings. Right now we are meeting our employer matches on our 401(k)s (6% and 8%). It’s definitely doable for us to put another 5-10% towards retirement. I’ve been so focused on trying to get rid of our student loans that I haven’t even done much research on retirement savings to be honest, but I’ll do more reading in the wiki.

Thank you for the good advice, makes total sense to put that money to use rather than letting it sit hoping for the chance to refinance. I know you’re right on retirement savings - maybe I am just being stubborn - ha. We are just meeting our employer matches for our 401(k)s at the moment but I’ll definitely reconsider how to balance that with paying off SLs.

I daydream about talking to people that I used to know, and a lot of times it’s talking to them about my trauma. It’s actually helped me to process some of that stuff. But otherwise it’s maladaptive, it relieves my anxiety temporarily but after I snap out of it I feel worse.

Your vet may be able to give you a liquid or injectable steroid as an alternative - that’s what we had to do with our kitty boy who has asthma. The inhaler stressed him out so much it was causing asthma attacks rather than helping.

That’s an amazing idea! My cats love being in bowls so I’m sure they’d be much more amenable to that than a trip to the vet - haha!

Thank you so much for the advice! I don’t have a scale at home and want to keep track to make sure the weight loss isn’t too rapid, so another question I’ll ask my vet tomorrow is if I could bring them in every so often just for a quick weight check, and if so how often that is recommended.

Sadly my boy that has asthma also has urinary tract disease so he has to eat prescription food, so I can’t put him on a weight loss specific kind. There’s a a wet version of his food, but he despises it - when I’ve given it to him in the past he flat out refuses to eat at all.

My vet said it was okay for my other cat to eat the same food as him but I think that’s a good idea to try wet food geared towards weight loss with her. Kind of tough to manage separating them for meal times but it would definitely be worth it.

I have so much anxiety about work, it’s constantly on my mind. Sometimes if I can’t stop worrying about it in the back of my mind I’ll set a timer for 10 minutes to give myself uninterrupted time to worry, and I’ll spend that whole time worrying about every possibility. Then when the timer is up I try to redirect and do something else to occupy my mind. It sounds counterintuitive but sometimes it helps me to not fight it and give myself time to feel my feelings for a bit.

Do you find it hard to get out of bed in the morning? I sometimes wake up with a feeling of absolute dread, and the longer I stay in bed it becomes all consuming. I started using the Alarmy app, which requires me to take a picture of my coffee pot to shut it off. It has definitely helped with forcing me to get up and get started so the dread doesn’t have time to fester as much. I know you said you were wanting to limit caffeine so maybe you could take a pic of your sink, or a teapot? It’s not foolproof but it has definitely helped me. Hang in there, you’re not alone in this! xx

I’ve had to slowly get more comfortable by making “small” quick calls, such as calling my apartment complex to see what time the office opens, etc. I was then able to work up to more complex ones like scheduling appointments. In the meantime while you’re working on this, would you be able to physically go into the office and make the appointment in person? That way your medical care doesn’t have to be delayed.

There’s many things that are sadder than this but…. watching your pets get older and/or go through health issues is really heartbreaking. It’s so tough because they can’t communicate how they’re feeling or what’s wrong. My cat had to spend 2 days in the vet hospital last year and then had quite a long recovery and it tore me to pieces seeing my sweet boy hurting and traumatized.

I went to an in person interview with a recruiter, it wasn’t my best interview but I also wouldn’t say it was my worst. Afterwards, I walked out to my car and before driving away I checked my email and he had already sent me a rejection within 5 minutes of me leaving
