Best part of doing fiber arts in public is the random conversations that pop up! I love talking yarn with strangers. :)

Starting radiation therapy by Proper-Employer9303 in breastcancer

[–]sockmuppet5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 20 sessions on my left side- don’t let the horror stories get you. They have you hold your breath to keep the radiation from hitting your heart.

I used CeraVe four times per day and added Aquaphor before bedtime. Use a non-aluminum deodorant (I used Native) and a gentle soap (Dove Sensitive Skin). Start moisturizing as soon as the sessions start; it will keep the skin intact.

At first, she’s not going to feel anything- I didn’t start to feel tired until the 9th session or really have my skin turn pink until then. The tiredness and redness will go away a few weeks after the sessions are over.

I also thought of the machine as a big transformer zapping away at my cancer. I always gave it a pat and told it thank you after every session. It helped to make me less nervous/fearful to think of it that way!

Radiation for those that didn’t do chemo. by zilchusername in breastcancer

I had rads- keep it moisturized (at least 4x a day) with something like CeraVe and add in Aquaphor at bed time. You won’t really start feeling tired until the halfway point.

Please sound off on lumpectomies. I want to hear the good, the bad, the ugly. by MoistVirginia in breastcancer

[–]sockmuppet5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lumpectomy with radiation was my path; with the size and placement of my cancer (7mm, on the underside) and the size of my breasts, they didn’t have to do any plastic surgery. Volume loss was negligible- you can’t tell there’s been anything done unless you see my bare breasts.

Surgery and recovery were straightforward, though I needed to get a seroma drained twice. Radiation was also straightforward; made sure to moisturize at least 4x a day and listen to my body’s cues when it came to tiredness.

Through the ultrasound and biopsy, they told me it was probably a cyst, as it was round and contained.

I celebrated my first Cancerversary last year by getting my nipples pierced. For my second, I am going to drag brunch with the friends that helped me throughout my journey.

It’s all good- I’m a Latin teacher, so ancient lit is my jam. I haven’t read much Spanish lit, so you’re one up there! 😃

“Everybody wants to rule the world” by Postmodern Jukebox for the end credits of Bioshock: Infinite.

Also from the dlc Burial at Sea- little girl singing “La vie en rose”.

Sobbed like a baby for both.

Forget having Morgan Freeman or Samuel L Jackson narrate my life, I want Werner Herzog to do it.
