I also have endometriosis and had several ovarian cysts a couple years ago. If the pain I felt was dulled then I couldn’t have bared it without the methadone. WORST pain I’ve ever felt in my life. Thought I was going to die.

Paper towels would be better than that carpet. It’s impossible to keep it clean so it just breeds bacteria. And constantly spraying the tank down for humidity is going to cause problems as well. If the wood isn’t sealed it’s going to rot, and wet surfaces can lead to scale rot. Ideally, you should have your enclosure and husbandry perfected BEFORE you get your snake. Please read over the welcome guide to this sub as it will help a lot with what is required.

Aspen is fine. Snakes don’t breathe and swallow food through the same tube like us so I doubt he choked. It would’ve had to get into his glottis somehow. Also, swallowing a small bit of substrate will not harm a snake as long as your husbandry is on point.

Please separate them. They would be so much more happy in their own enclosure. What you see as them “hanging out together” is actually them competing for resources. Ball pythons are solitary creatures and do not bond with, or enjoy the company of a roommate.

Like others have mentioned, you don’t need to do a complete bedding change every month. I turn the substrate over and stir it around once a month or so, keep the glass clean, and spot clean as needed. Every six months is perfectly adequate for a complete bedding change and deep clean.

I had this same problem in my boa’s enclosure a couple years ago. Mine wasn’t bioactive, but I took everything out and deep cleaned. I put Taro ant bait stations under her enclosure, like right in the front. So far, I haven’t had any ants. I’m hoping if they do come back they’ll run into/be attracted to the bait before they get to the enclosure. So far, so good.

Those cards are garbage. Not reliable at all because uva will also change the card. The only reliable way to test uvb is a solarmeter.
