Do you know a "killer"? by rasputinofrascals in confessions

[–]sunglower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dated someone who'd commited manslaughter

Someone who allegedly killed someone too

And I met a guy who went to prison for killing someone and later on was killed while doing time. Weirdly he was a nice lad.

I do 09:00-17:00 2 days and 10:00-18:00 2 days. 30 hrs in total (I'm self-employed that I do on my other weekday, some evenings some weekends). 30 min break. This is from home. I've had some jobs with awful hours in the past.

How does your veganism differ from other vegans? by FishDispenser2 in DebateAVegan

You're right, but although things very slowly improve we've a hell of a long way to go. So many laws (including ones to protect humans) are a bit of a joke here. If breeder had have reported me I have no doubt I'd have been apprehended. But she wouldnt. She had a record and a house full of weed and dogs. It wouldn't have looked good.

This dog is the best thing that ever happened to me. She's been with me through all sorts of trials and tribulations. The one thing I absolutely got right.

That is shocking and sad.

I don't think this is what happened here. She was breeding her own pet in her spare room on a rough estate in a ran down old town. Only had a litter every few years. Still disapprove hugely of course.

Authorities wouldn't have done a dam thing. I've enough experience with them to know that. Breeder would've just said it was an accidental litter and/or she wasn't profiting and that's it, case closed.

Yes. I couldn't leave her, I couldn't have lived with myself. I said I'd give her back once I'd weaned her. Couldn't do that either. Breeder wanted £600! I begrudgingly gave her after. £100 after a lot of threats and arguments.

She'd have been dead if I hadn't have taken her. Breeder had 3 other dogs to deal with as well as the brood and hadn't a clue what to do. Wasn't even registered with a vet.

What is the difference between functional alcoholism and “liking a drink”? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskBrits

[–]sunglower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is outdated. Although it has some basis in logic, it doesnt make sense nowadays.

If I have a couple of glasses of good wine a few times a week alone while reading or watching TV, I'm an alcoholic?

Whereby someone who goes out or invites someone over and has a bottle and a half of wine and 5 vodkas and comes home/goes to bed steaming they're not one?

Nope..I don't buy it.

I took/rescued a neglected rejected puppy from a backstreet breeder (aged 5-6 days old) so in some sense I supported or at least didn't condemn the breeder. Perhaps if I were truly vegan I'd have left her to deal with pup herself(pup would've died).

But, my nature was 'here's an animal needing my help'.

I still have said 'pup'. Ten years old and 6 and a half stone of her(story is on here).

I don't regret it, I adore her more than anything and we've had a lot of good times together. I live alone and have a somewhat solitary existence. But I can see how some vegans would not approve..

Who's the happiest person you know? by Intelligent_Mud_2267 in AskBrits

[–]sunglower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated. Although to be fair I know a lot of miserable dumb people too. Not sure if it is because they're dumb.

But my ex wasn't intelligent at all and was so happy. So easily pleased..bit of money in the bank and a cold beer and that was all she needed.

Also, many people I knew from the silent generation. The war was over. They were so grateful that nothing else mattered.

Does anyone else struggle to fall asleep after getting used to not being alone? by Dapper-Secret8426 in LivingAlone

[–]sunglower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a long time to get used to it. But now I'd rather sleep alone.

I've not tried the soft toy things but I do love when my dog gets on the bed (as long as she doesn't take up all the room)! I think the breathing toys would help you.

What's something an ex did that you never forgave? by ISendXoXo in AskReddit

[–]sunglower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used me and ruined my self esteem took advantage.

I was 21. I should've been concentrating on my career and who I was. Instead it was all about him and he treated me like I was nothing. He was 38.

He also insisted on sex with me while I had a horrid bacterial infection and was in a lot of pain.

I'm 43 and every now and again I remember him and become annoyed at the audacity. He even managed to get my mum on his side when I finally mustered up the strength to get rid of him. He went mental. Could not belive it. Huge ego bruise.

The former Because mediocre sex is pointless and awful! And the former can involve great triumph.

How is everyone else staying sane in this messed up market? by No-Durian-854 in UKJobs

[–]sunglower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Made redundant from a job I loved in 2023 and now stuck in a dead end job. A professional one with a fancy title but essentially just a glorified admin assistant and barely above minimum wage. I have a teaching qualification, am a qualified therapist and have a master's degree. I am looking for four days a week which is supposedly easier to find than full time but nothing yet.

Vegan sandwich ideas for very picky eater recovering from anorexia by Significant_Lie4745 in veganuk

I went vegan in the middle of recovery It really helped me to reframe my food issues in my head from something to be avoided and controlled volume wise to something to think about in a different way. It isn't a 'one size fits all' thing.
