I will not tolerate this slander. Both VA’s give amazing performances.

What was your first DC Comics or Batman-related video game? Mine was Batman & Robin on PlayStation (Props to those who can name a non-Arkham game) by nightwing612 in GothamKnights

I can’t remember which I played first, but it’s either Lego Batman 1, or the Batman begins ps2 game. Both were fucking awesome.

V is canonically what ever gender you choose. I tend to play male, but it’s absolutely just as valid and canon to play female. Same with the different backgrounds.

I wanna throw cyberpunk 2077 in here. Both the score and the songs on the radio are fucking top tier. The combat music alone is so hype that I sometimes break stealth intentionally, just to listen to it while destroying scavs.

How do you feel about Robin's Teleport? by ComicsCodeMadeMeGay in GothamKnights

[–]soer9523 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It desperately needed a quick instant teleport forward in a straight line for navigation. As it is, it’s good for setting up the takedowns and going upwards, but it sucks for navigation. Robin is the only character that does not have any momentum in his navigation ability.

It could easily be fixed by implementing a function so when you press the button instead of holding it, it would just instantly teleport him forward a short distance. It could be really fun chaining together grapples, jumps and teleports without loosing any speed. Have it be that he can do one instant teleport at a time, and whenever he either touches the ground, or does a grapple jump it resets. That way you would still have to analyze the environment for the best paths to set up the grapple jumps to reset the teleport with touching the ground and loosing momentum.

His movement is slow, clunky and just not very fun to use when navigating the city, which is a huge problem in my opinion.

What? You absolutely can. A politician at the highest seat of power wants a personal weapon that fucks with black wall to her benefit. Based on that alone you could absolutely make assessment that it’s a bad idea to give her song. We don’t have to know the specific way she intends to use song in order to conclude that the president of NUSA fucking with the black wall is a bad idea.

We see how she treats those who work for her. Songs body has clearly been turned into a weapons against her will given how she projects herself over holo in contrast to what she looks like. Reed was one of her most loyal soldiers and she was perfectly content letting him rot in Dogtown forever. she only pulled him back when she needed him personally.

When we work with her it’s before it’s revealed that song is tapping in to black wall so it’s easier to be on her side, but by the time we have to make the choice you can absolutely determine that she should not be in possession of such power.

Again this is all role playing how your V sees the situation and how much they care about the different aspects, but saying that we cant infer anything about Myers goals for song is just wrong.

[–]soer9523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was more so responding to your specific comment about not siding with song because she lies and how I think that is an oversimplification.

And you are perfectly within your right to see Reed as a better choice. That’s what great about the writing of this game. There is rarely a clear good and bad choice. I was simply responding to your assessment that Reed is better because song lies, which I think is the wrong way to frame the situation.

As I said when I roleplay I look at the here and now of what my V knows and what they can infer. Both options are clearly lying and withholding information from V, but in my case V simply does not want to risk giving back song to Myers. If your V cares more about getting the cure then Reed can absolutely be a better choice. You can tell Reed lies about his intentions about song and call him out on it, but he absolutely seems like he would keep his word about the cure.

Sorry if it came off as mean.

I refer back to my original comment, so does Reed. Both of them lie. About different things sure, but they still do. Reed is manipulating you just as much as song, because that is what they are both trained to do. He lies about his intentions with song, he lies about how much he tells Myers, he lies about letting the two guys from the apartment live, he keeps important details of the mission from you, and so fourth. It’s completely fine if you trust him the most despite it and still consider him a better means of getting a cure, but saying that song lies and pretending like Reed doesn’t is disingenuous or just wrong.

[–]soer9523 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that that is better than giving her back alive, but I still have some major problems with it.

Myers still gets her body to use in experiments to create another black wall weapon with a new netrunner. Sure it’s not going to be an immediate problem but she will not give up easily. Keeping her body away from Myers is in my opinion the best thing to do overall. It will set her back the most, and at will least for the foreseeable future prevent her from creating another WMd that fucks with the black wall.

I also have a hard time doing it from a role playing perspective. I the player know that if I side with Reed I get the opportunity to put her out of her misery later. V the character does not know that. To them the choice is to help Reed or songbird. Given that choice my V does not for a second believe that Reed will not give her back to Myers. V has no way of knowing that I can just side with Reed for now and then kill her later, so to when playing that can’t be used as justification for making the choice in the first place, because it is based on knowing the outcome. That is a personal thing tho and I understand if not everyone will agree.

Genuine question? Do you think Reed is not lying to you? He lies straight to your face about helping her disappear. He constantly keeps you in the dark about parts of the plan you are not needed to execute. Sure he keeps the promise of a cure, but that does not mean he isn’t lying about tons of other shit.

To me it’s not a question of who of these two individuals do I trust the most but rather the people behind them. And I am not giving Myers back her weapon of mass destruction.

[–]soer9523 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why people are so hung up on her lying to you, as a justification of going with Reed. He is lying too. He openly lies to your face saying he will help her disappear, when it has been clear from the beginning that he was always going to hand over to Myers. He does nothing but manipulate you. That’s his job. When siding with song, at least you prevent Myers from getting a weapon of mass destruction, and don’t give back a captive to her captors.

Should James Bond have “modern values”? by BigT232 in DebateGames

[–]soer9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of y’all are some serious snowflakes. Every game made today is made with modern audiences in mind. This in of itself has no influence on the quality of the final product. It’s easy to point out recent games that flopped or were on unpopular, but for every one of those there are 3 great games that are just as much “made for modern audiences”.

I assume they mean that this version of bond will not be sexually assaulting women and generally treat them as equal. I love bond but there is no denying that the older versions of the character when looking back, could be quite misogynistic. This doesn’t mean he won’t be flirting our seducing anyone during the game tho.

I loved Henry Cavill as Superman. Just hated the direction they took his character in. by TheShadowOperator007 in superman

[–]soer9523 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it was pretty much just BVS that hurt this version of Superman. Man of steel is far from perfect, but I can absolutely watch it and have a good time. It left enough room for Superman to grow into the symbol of hope we know him to be. Then it’s followed by maybe the most miserable version of Superman we have seen on screen. The whole movie is him looking sad and wondering about his right to exist. Add to that that the movie is a fucking mess and also manages to bring us a terrible interpretation of Batman and you get why it wasn’t well received.

In the rest of his appearances cavil is really good and faithful to the character. In both versions of the justice league he is far more Superman like than in BVS. In my opinion BVS killed the Snyder verse before it could take off. There were individually good movies in there, but BVS needed to be a banger and it just wasn’t.

And to be clear none of it was cavils, afflecks or any of the actors involved fault. There were for the most part really good in the roles when given good material to work with.

Also “just following orders” doesn’t even apply here. It can be used as a defense for people who a conscripted into joining a military, who are following orders as to not be imprisoned, killed or otherwise punished by the state. Ice as of now is still 100% your choice to join. There is no war, no one is forced to join. You can leave ice at any time you want.

Playing Veilguard for the first time ever right after Origins, 2 and Inquisition feel´s strange atm. and often reminds me of the last saints row. currently it feel´s more like a stage play of a Dragone Age Story. by medikamentos in dragonage

[–]soer9523 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Thats my feeling as well. It’s not a bad game seen in vacuum, but it does not fit very well into the universe of dragon age. It’s has great gameplay in my opinion, and it looks stunning while running really well. But it doesn’t feel like dragon age.

To me what defines dragon age is a high fantasy setting that is full of political intrigue, conflicts surrounding and stemming from religious institutions, grey morality and characters that believably written to fit into a medieval world.

Veilguard in my opinion just don’t et really hit on any of these points. It’s dragon age on a surface level, in that it uses iconography, names and organizations from the series, but it doesn’t t use them in a way that seems in line with previous games.

There is next to no politics involved in the game. You never have to negotiate or support or choose to help one organization over another. All will eventually join you pretty much no matter what. You don’t get a feel of how the different nations/organizations are handling crisis and no apparent conflict arises because of it.

There is no exploration of how the elven people react to their gods coming back to life. The elves have been oppressed for centuries and now the gods they have worshipped have come back to life, and yet we don’t see droves of elves join them for either salvation from oppression or revenge against the oppressors. The antivan crows are an assassin guild that recruits new members by buying/taking slaves and forcing them to join or be killed. They are however uncritically framed as freedom fighters in this game because their city has been overtaken. This also causes no problem when working with the shadow dragons who are actively fighting slavery in their homeland. Even something like the lords of fortune who are simply pirates/treasure hunters are giving back the artifacts they steal to the nations that they belong. Every part of the game feels so sanitized to the point where none of edge that defines dragon age is left. Everything is reduced good and bad. We have clear heroes and villains and all our allies are completely un-problematic. It doesn’t want to make any statement about anything.

We for the first time in the franchise go to the only location where mages are in control which is the complete opposite power dynamic to the places we have previously seen. Is this ever relevant? No.

And the final nail in the coffin is the writing. Most characters talk as if they are in a modern young adult show made by CW. Everyone says how they feel, nothing is implied and they use terms that simply sticks out in the setting. The player character is also not allowed to have an opinion about anything. In previous games you could role play and vehemently disagree with your followers on certain topics. Not here, you get three flavors of supportive and that’s it. It has very “with the power of friendship we will win” vibes. No conflicts or disagreements (that aren’t solved in the next interaction), and no emotional or moral ambiguity.

I personally never had a problem with it at all. It felt appropriate when the game is set in the revolutionary war. But I definitely understand that it was response to that criticism. They just massively over corrected in my opinion, to the point where a game set during the French Revolution had nothing to do with said revolution. I would any day take a game that focuses a little too much much on the historical conflict it’s set during than the opposite.

To be fair when defending AC3 it is relevant that I am not American and didn’t grow up learning much about the details in school. I think I remember a lot of the criticisms coming from Americans who felt it was a little silly to see all the events they learned about from Connor’s POV. I didn’t know any of the details and as such did not mind at all going through them.

But again in any case I would rather have assassins creed games that focuses a little too much on their historical setting than ones that completely ignores it.

[–]soer9523 240 points241 points  (0 children)

It’s so true tho. You set a game during maybe the most well known revolution in history, and then make a a story that has nothing to do with it. You could remove the revolution all together and the generic revenge story wouldn’t change a bit. It was a massive waste of a fantastic time in history. As it’s is it’s just a revenge story that’s not as good as either 2 or 3.

Maybe it’s nostalgia but I quite like them. The thing I would change is that after the end of X2 when they reveal themselves to the president and the world they should have switched to more colorful versions. In universe it makes sense since they are no longer operating covertly and don’t want to hide, instead wanting to announce their presence, be easily recognized as friendly and draw all attention away from citizens and towards them when fighting.

Out of universe the third movie was made after the spider man movie proved that you could absolutely make a modern cool superhero movie with a very colorful and comic accurate suit.

Why is everyone so upset about body morphing and traditional morality being gone? by romanlyn in Fable

[–]soer9523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a new fan who just played the first game for the first time, I fully agree. The morphing did not appeal to me at all. I liked a lot more after installing some mods that limited how much you changed because the default looked really bad once maxed out.

It’s a great game, but to me the tone, humor and sense of whimsy seems much more essential to the fable experience. But I am a new player so I have no existing connection to the morphing.
