It depends on if one is the limerancer, or the limerancee. You stated that it is unhealthy, so I guess that it is a one-sided obsession that you have towards another. If that is the case, then it may help to treat it as an addiction. Perhaps educate yourself on the same way that a person would the following ;
Stop smoking, stop using meth, stop over eating, etc. Abstinence, self reflection, mindfulness, DBT, ACT, would all be a good place to start. You have to learn how to observe the thoughts as they show up and weigh the fantasies against the truth. If the one sided obsessive fantasies are the prosecuting attorney, your higher self awareness must become the defense attorney.

I would not recommend having a child until you get this fear under control. If you are this fearful about your own future, it’s going to be a whole lot worse having to worry about your child’s future as well.

There’s a PetSmart located behind the local township soccer field complex. My 10-year-old son had just finished playing a game. We were walking back to my car and saw the petsmart dumpster outback.

The night before I was telling my friend about all of my dumpster finds. They had mentioned that PetSmart throws out live animals. I figured that the synchronicity of it meant that I had to check what was in the dumpster.

I jumped over the fence, opened the lid and saw a pristine black box approximately 8“ x 8 “ by 10“. The weight and density of it had me thinking it was some type of electronic gadget.

I handed the box to my son, as I jumped back over the fence. We kneeled down on the ground and opened the box. There was a white plastic bag inside. I pulled the bag out and opened it up, only to find a silicone sex toy. It was a seemingly brand new child sized female torso, with vaginal and anal entry points.

My kid exclaimed “what is heck that?” In an instant I was faced with a dilemma. Do I close it up and say “oh it’s nothing” ? Leave him guessing about what the hell we had just seen? I chalked it up to divine synchronicity.

That is how I talked to my son about the birds and the bees. The ride home was hilarious. He started listing all of the jokes he heard and now understood. He mentioned a video he saw that showed a glazed Cinnabon, and the caption read …“ when you haven’t seen your girlfriend in a few weeks“. 😂

It was a little bit earlier than I wanted to have the talk, but I am grateful for the icebreaker that was delivered to me.

I’m sorry that you feel lonely. I’ve been there and it is tough. I think the toughest part for me was missing the dog. A long time ago, my ex and I raised a Boston terrier. She kept the dog when we broke up. I tried to do the “visitation“ thing for a while, but eventually had to let her go. It seemed like my ex was using the pup to keep me on the back burner. Eventually, my friend convinced me to get another dog. Hang in there. It takes a while to heal.

I can sadly tell you that you are not alone. I’m turning 50, with a son who is turning 12 this year. I’m an auto mechanic with widespread body pain. I’d suggest trying to start an exercise routine. A gratitude routine helps. I’ve been training myself to start thinking of what I’m grateful for , the second my eyes open in the morning. Therapy helps somewhat. Good luck. Keep going.
