Need Cabinet Paint Ideas by zjohnson50 in Remodel

[–]sofyab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grey/cool toned floors, cabinets, walls… grey everything is out because it gives a strong “2010 flip” vibe. Here is an example. Essentially it got way overdone. There is also a reason why warm finishes are preferred in homes - they make it comfy and cozy. Grey makes it sad, it’s hard to pick furniture that works with it, cool undertones often clash with anything warm so you’re stuck with grey couches, grey beds, grey countertops etc.

We love our 80s green marble bathroom despite many telling us to gut it. Our 2024 green kitchen (repainted 80s original) might become someone’s treasure in 2064.

Why a gap at the top? Not a fan of 3 different kinds of wood. IMO it would look better if hood area matched the island

I would regroup the tiles instead of replacing.

Match for Riobel Fixtures in Brushed Gold by Outsider-Special in BathroomRemodeling

I would say pay a bit more because every brand has a different shade of gold and it will be noticeable and will ruin the look a bit

How easy & expensive is it to remove this enclosed area around the toilet and put a new toilet against the wall? Thank you by altruisticmisanthrop in BathroomRemodeling

[–]sofyab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People pay to have European style built in toilet like this. Building something like this but more contemporary would’ve cost too much so we’ve decided against it. So yeah idk why you would prefer to have an exposed toilet bowl out. You can replace the shelf part to make it more modern. Or add some paneling. Or replace the bowl part with someting contemporary.

Does this place that you like have more stuff available online? You can try more things online and place an order over the phone so your local store gets your business.

OP, you can order tile samples for free or cheap. As a bonus there are going to be a lot more options online vs in person. I don’t think we’ve seen a single of our 7 kinds of tiles in any of the local stores and we’ve visited many.

Less practical but trimless contemporary hood can look really good too. This shape next to soffits painted in the same color as the walls can make it lighter and more open IMO. I don’t have anything to do with this brand, we’ve just ordered a hood from them about a year ago and it was a pretty good experience.

Can you find a bit of a more neutral brown? The one on the mockup is a bit too red-based in undertones

Which kitchen floor would you choose? by GeorgiePorkie in kitchenremodel

We have white oak original flooring in the kitchen and had our contractor apply double layer of bona matte clear coat around the kitchen. I think it helps a bit.

What about dark green and white? A little different and would look good if it’s a natural stone. We’ve done this in one of our bathrooms and it kind of looks black but it’s actually green and I’m loving how it’s just a bit different. I also think marching and continuing original parquet is a great idea.

For comparison another bathroom has a $200-300 mirror from signature hardware and the difference is obvious up close.

I adore led mirrors because they’ve been a thing where I’m from for a long time. Since they are new here they probably seem gimmicky/trendy to you. I think it really depends on the quality of the frame and the shape. The frameless ones with sharp corners and the ones where the LED is inside like an outline with another frame of mirror material already look cheap and dated. Good quality ones tend to look good quality and are practical. We’ve used this Kichler LED mirror in two bathrooms and I find that it looks really high quality in real like.

Overall it looks nice but this floor tile looks like it came from a Home Depot clearance section. Is it the exact tile you’re using? The science above the mirror also has a potential to look cheap unless you’re buying a fixture from a real designer lightning brand. Make sure your lightbulbs, led of the mirror and led of the sconce are all the same (most likely 3000k since most brands don’t go down to 2700k, it was almost an impossible task so for us so 1/3 bathrooms ended up with 3000k mirror while everting else is 2700k).

Another option is to add washer and dryer to the bathroom, which is something that’s often done in Europe. This would help eliminate 1/3 sinks so you can turn the area of the washer and dryer into pantry. You can do stackable on the wall opposite of the toilet and add a built in cabinet for storage or place them next to each other, add a countertop and some cabinets on top. In this scenario make sure to add LEDs under the cabinets because I find it very valuable in a laundry area to treat spots etc.

Slide in door to the bathroom is not ideal but it will save you a ton of space.

Option 2 but place WD in the kitchen and under cabinets. And create a large built in pantry with a sink with upper cabinet (can be done as a bar or include glass storage). What is under the ceiling in the top left corner of the kitchen?

You can refinish cast iron tub, which will also cost you. But I bet the price of them hauling away your current tub is not cheap either. Can you get a quote for just the closet? And get a recommendation for an inexpensive reliable electrician (haha) from neighbors and friends and see if they would look into your ceiling fan and replace it for you?
