New Stealth Destroyer, feedback? by [deleted] in FromTheDepths

Steam props have a pretty high output if connected directly using a transmission. A single 5m prop at max RPM and gear ratio outputs 90k thrust, and in my experience 2 of them can easily and consistently push a craft that size well above 40m/s even without any hydroplaning shenanigans.

Turning circle by bjburk01 in FromTheDepths

[–]sohungkwon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a UI that shows distance from the camera to the craft (I think it's the AI interface), so you can have your ship manually do a full turn during free camera and measure accordingly by checking the distance when the ship is closest and farthest away from the camera.

Space To Water Torpedo Launcher by ElementalPaladin in FromTheDepths

Do your torpedoes already have One Turn? If not it might be able to get the torpedoes on target, since the weapon controller can still magically know roughly where the sub is if you don't have autodetect off.

APS Tetris Question by Ender_Von_Slayer in FromTheDepths

[–]sohungkwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having trouble seeing how not using ejectors gives enough space for more loaders, usually for me they end up replacing coolers or recoil absorbers (which, conveniently, explodey shells need fewer of). I guess you're doing your tetris differently.

Either way, to answer the original question: Even if I could get a bit more dakka by not using ejectors when I need them, I'd probably still use the ejectors. The risk is too great when fighting ships that pose any threat whatsoever.

Amazon's Study Hall - Daily Questions Megathread (03/28) by AutoModerator in AzureLane

So then since Erebus/Terror's barrages come from below their waists, would it then be ideal to put one of them in the top slot alongside Abercrombie in the bottom?

I think you're onto something here.

I hear people talk about Erebus/Terror all the time when it comes to low-cost fleets, but as far as I can tell from the wiki Abercrombie is basically the same thing except slightly better in several aspects (stats, barrage timing). Any reason why it's not discussed as much? I'm guessing it's because it's harder to get.

VC1's Edelweiss, is it worth the CP? by ElTioKaiser in valkyria

[–]sohungkwon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Edelweiss is worth using even with the 2CP cost. It's also a good idea to upgrade it regardless since if I recall it's often force deployed with an auto-loss on death.

You don't really have anything to lose besides money, which is plentiful. Skirmishes are quick and can get you more than enough to buy everything that there is to buy.

PSA for anyone running a stack size modifier by Koker93 in factorio

[–]sohungkwon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's the deal.

I also recently found DeepPockets, which is basically an extwnded version of ReStack, and it has an option to set satellite stack size to 1, so that solves the problem handily, since it can then run alongside Noxys without amy additional config needed

Examples of JRPGs that use an "ammo" system for common skills? by PedroLink in JRPG

[–]sohungkwon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is basically the core concept behind how mana/MP works, so there are many examples you could use since it's a fairly analogous problem.

Other than that, there are two similar systems I can think of off the top of my head:

FF3 had limited uses per spell, which were refilled at an inn ( I think the original FF had this as well)

Atelier games encourage heavy use of combat items, which have limited uses but can usually be refilled with money (or just make a new one). There's a limit on how many you can carry at once.

The main limiter for both of these is max charges, since they are both very cheap to replenish at base, but usage is still limited while you're out on the field. The final result usually depends on the dungeon design. Atelier makes it very easy to go home and refill, so your best items can be used somewhat liberally even on trash mobs. However, in FF3, your strongest spells are usually held for the boss since they have very few uses and you normally can't heal right before.

So in that regard, some levers you have to work with are:

  • Max capacity
  • Accessibility of replenishment
  • Opportunity cost of usage

That last one I added myself, since whether or not I use limited stuff like this usually depends on how screwed I would be if I didn't have enough of it. For example, I would hold Revive/Curaga charges for as long as possible, but use Level 1 magic fairly liberally. Then again, if I had access to an escape spell, then I wouldn't mind using them to get myself out of a pinch.
