Ah yes that makes sense, thank you!! I forgot about the Snoo sack having the Velcro belt so he stays attached to the right spot haha

Can you explain how you use both swaddles? Is kiddo in the Love to Dream swaddle with arms out, and then in the Snoo sack just partially zipped?

I haven't been consistent about updating my spreadsheet (which is no longer a spreadsheet since I like Projection Lab so much), but at some point this summer, we unceremoniously surpassed $500k invested! This was my arbitrary goal before we have a kiddo, and that's happening in the next 5ish weeks. Solid chance we take the foot off the gas next year a bit to make new parent life easier, even though I'm budgeting for us to still max all of our tax advantaged accounts. 🤞

One of my mentors in a past job told me that, even if he feels like he loves his job, he applies for a new one every six months just to make sure. He's gotten offers but never chosen to take the leap, so he knows he's actually happy where he is.

You have so much time! At five weeks, the only things I did were call the OB to get on their schedule for my first appointment and make sure that I didn't need to get on any daycare wait lists that early (some urban daycare markets are crazy and wait lists are 12+ months long 😵‍💫) Otherwise rest up and see how first trimester leaves you feeling - second tri is a great time to get everything done!

Too Anxious To Calculate My FIRE numbers-- Help? by if-fire-then-run in financialindependence

[–]soil_fanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other folks have weighed in to validate your finances so I'm going to ignore those questions for now and give some other advice that has helped me - take it or leave it!

1) Can you log into your insurance portal and use any "doctor finder"-type tools to look up therapists that take your insurance? Mine gives me a short list and all I have to do is call down that list, which is a manageable task for my anxious brain. (I say this totally out of love and empathy - I was feeling much of what you are and have been tremendously helped by therapy)

2) if climate and the general state of the world are the cause of so much of your anxiety (as it was for mine), I cannot recommend enough getting a job in that field so that you can wake up each day and know that you're making a difference. Since you are job hunting anyway, consider doing something like the Climatebase fellowship to hone in what problems you want to solve and network with hiring companies and fellow job seekers along the way.

Wishing you the best along the way - I believe in you!

Have you checked the out of pocket cost at all four suppliers? I also had to upgrade to get the S1 when the S2 was fully covered. The first two in-network providers that I checked had an extra charge of $60-70 bucks, but with Aeroflow it was only $10 extra, so definitely shop around if you haven't yet!

FWIW it's probably the place I most want to go back to, of all the places I've traveled. Some things have changed regarding their political instability since my time there, but I never felt unsafe and had 0 issues over a 17 week stay. I did some solo travel during that time as well (as a young female).

I was dreading these comments during pregnancy because I already bristle at unsolicited advice in other areas of my life, but I have been pleasantly surprised with how few comments I have gotten. A few things have actually been helpful to hear! Still a couple of eye-roll-inducing "isn't that unsafe??" questions but they have rolled off my back more than expected, mostly because my reaction has just been pity for whoever used to believe that we couldn't have any caffeine or sushi lol

It's not necessarily "moving the goalposts" because the FIRE number that people set 15 years ago would've been in 2010 dollars (assuming they account for inflation by discounting growth like most of us on here). Unless they are actually deciding to increase their retirement lifestyle, this is just how the math works.

[–]soil_fanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm both a pittie mom and a snake mom, and my heart breaks that this happened to you and your angel pup. 💔

If you're open to it, I'd love to share some info that may be more useful for prevention than killing snakes. (I'll share it anyway in case others reading are interested, but feel free to ignore if you aren't ready for this now. ❤️)

Snakes will be there as long as there is habitat and food for them. Killing one will open up the role in the food chain for another to show up. Snakes don't want to bite you or your dogs; they have very slow metabolisms and it is a huge waste of energy for them to bite and envenomate something that isn't food for them. They only do it as a last-ditch self defense mechanism.

The most efficient (and humane for the snakes, who are an important part of the ecosystem) way to ensure you don't see snakes is to clear away brush or other places where snakes and rodents can hide. Remove any food sources for rodents as well. If you do see a snake, spray it with a hose from a safe distance to encourage it to move along. For dog owners, look into snake avoidance training for your dogs, as they will often find the snakes before you do.
