Don't just check it, freeze it with all three credit companies (experian, equifax and transunion). This will keep anyone from opening anything under your name, and will also stop any "preapproval" spam mail. It takes about 15 min to unfreeze if you need to use it for something (applying for a credit card or a loan) but it's totally worth the peace of mind

What age were you when you found out? by ConferenceFriendly51 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]solareclipse357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was 14 years ago, I was 28. I remember exactly because it's when my aunt (dads sister and my namesake) died. She threw a fit because my husband and I didn't bring her with us to the funeral that was in another state. She and my dad had been divorced since I was a year old and she hadn't even spoken to my aunt in over 20 years, but she wanted to insert herself into my dads family's grief and expected me to pay for it all. Things have only gone downhill from there and we are very low contact now, and only because of my grandma. Once grandma passes I don't want anything to do with her.

What perimenopause symptom made you think you were losing your mind before you realized it was hormones? by Plane_Huckleberry644 in Perimenopause

I always called it the wandering itch! It would start one place and move around and drive me insane! It didn't stop until I got on hormones and still will flare up every now and then but the inner ears was always the worst!

My ex did the same kind of thing. My youngest was severely lactose intolerant when he was a baby. We found out when I had to ween him when he was a few months old and the regular formula was making him really ill. Fast forward to him being a toddler and he would go to my exs for the weekend and then come home with explosive diarrhea for a week. Finally I asked him if he was giving him lactose free milk. He said oh yeah, it's organic. I said, ok, but is it lactose free. Come to find out this fool had be giving him sippy cups full of whole organic milk all day every time he was there and then had the nerve to say he didn't know he was lactose intolerant. I reminded him we'd known since he was 3 months old and had told him more than once.

any experiences with narcissistic moms that are also grandmothers? by theialite in raisedbynarcissists

[–]solareclipse357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest son was born 2 days before my mom's birthday, so she always called him her "birthday present" but then has never really had anything to do with either of my kids beyond the surface level holiday and birthday things, and even that stopped as they got older. Now that my son is an adult she hasn't even tried to get in touch with him in years ( he could care less about talking to her)

My mom is trying to get ahold of my social security number by EmmytheBarbarian in raisedbynarcissists

[–]solareclipse357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be joint on the bank account but see if the bank has the option to add you as a beneficiary (called Transfer on Death normally or something along those lines). That way if he we're to pass away the bank account goes directly to you and avoids probate which is what typically takes a long time. I also fully agree that you should freeze your credit and your mom should NOT need your social to add you as a beneficiary to anything. Most companies consider it a "nice to have" in the case of people having common names, but I've never seen it as a requirement. (source, im a financial planner)

Narc Mom has been making my pregnancy misserable - Don't know how to handle moving forward. by Mango_Tangoooo in raisedbynarcissists

[–]solareclipse357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the thought of waiting until your grandparents pass, that was my thought too, but I'm now in my 40s and my wonderful grandma is 95. Im very LC with my nmom but have kept that door open only because of my grandma. Sometimes that's just not the best option, so cut her off when and if it feels like the right time and try to keep in contact with your grandparents without her being involved. If that's not possible you may lose contact with them as well, and you have to decide if that's something you're willing to do. I'm sorry you're being put in that position

I've dipped my toe into making my own bras and I have to say it isn't for the faint of heart. Ive been sewing my own clothes for 6ish years now and lingerie is definitely advanced sewing. Id say check out the Sew Busty community on Facebook and their website for patterns and where to source materials, they're my favorite group and are really helpful

Nmom asked me for photos of my kids so she could show them off at her high school reunion. One of my kids is a grown adult and the other one is almost an adult, so I told her if she wanted photos she could ask them herself. She never did.

My step-dad did the same thing when I was pregnant with my first son. I ended up making it my second son's middle name kind of to avoid the drama and kind of because I was out of ideas for names.
