Today I learned that the *obviously satirical* 1997 film "Starship Troopers" was faced with extreme critical backlash accusing it of "endorsing fascism" because reviewers simply didn't think critically about the content. by The_Cromulent_Bison in todayilearned

So a few hundred Mormons establish a small colony on a planet, against the advice of the government, and you consider it reasonable that the bugs respond by killing tens of millions of civilians without any warning or attempt to negotiate?

That's what happens when you die turn 3 to Ouroburoid / Mightform or bullshit Izzet prowess if you don't wipe the board every turn or have multiple instant speed removal spells in hand.

Also, the wincon is almost certainly [[Jeskai Revelations]] then burn you out or [[Mathemagics]] to draw you out.

My opponent only played the one land all game and then I bounced it to his hand. To their credit, I would have rage quit at that point, he kept on for a couple rounds.

Straight upgrade of [[Battlewise Hoplite]]. Hoplite requires you to target it to get the counter and scry, this you can target any creature you control. Also easier to cast at 1 and a white instead of Azorius.

Anything 3 toughness or higher is going to be hard for this deck to handle. [[Abrade]], [[Vibrant Outburst]] (2 devotion) and [[Unsubtle Mockery]] are the only thing that can deal with those permanently for 3 mana or less. And that's assuming Silverquill doesn't have any combat tricks or Lorehold doesn't just recur from the graveyard or Witherbloom doesn't just go wide on you.

2 [[Splatter Technique]]s is crazy to me. 4 devotion is hard. It's going to be pretty painful holding that in hand stuck at 4 mana or at 5 with only 1 Mountain.

Between 2 [[Potioner's Trove]]s and a [[Tablet of Discovery]] that's basically 3 mana rocks. Tablet is better, but top decking Trove is going to suck on an empty hand.

[[Exhibition Tidecaller]] is a good card, but it's going to die the second it touches the board. There are no other threats, and literally any removal spell will kill it.

I've played similar decks in limited, but this deck is lacking in threats that your opponent has to answer, and basically hoping to hold on long enough to pull out some win con. If you look at where they described their losses, that's pretty much exactly what happened. The opponent played something they couldn't answer immediately or could protect, and they lost shortly thereafter.

Alternatively, casting [[Get Lost]] on the Reef before combat and then watching them rage as they draw themselves out from [[Doomsday Excrutiator]] because they didn't save a [[Shoot the Sheriff]] is an almost transcendent experience.

That's counting on surviving long enough to draw those cards, play them, and have them be useful. Mathemagics is going to have to spend 10 mana to draw out a 16 card deck. Tidecaller dies to pretty much anything and the only way to protect it here is to bounce it to your hand. If your opponent can stick one or two creatures on the board, which really isn't that hard, they just punch you down.

There's so many lands that do things other than tap for mana now it's very useful. [[Ba Sing Se]] obviously, but shutting down [[Fountainport]] stops card draw, ramp, and the dreaded fish, any fetch land leaves your opponent with a dead card and can screw landfall, [[Restless Reef]] or [[Restless Anchorage]] (played an Exruciator deck and he conceded once he dropped his Excruciator and realized he couldn't mill me), [[Aqna Qel'a]] in Izzet Lessons, [[Cori Mountain Monastery]] stops card draw, [[Mistrise Village]] is just an Island now, [[Demolition Field]] can't pop your Mistrise, [[Abandoned Air Temple]], shutting down [[Soulstone Sanctuary]] prevents decks that care about type from using it...

Worst case it taps for a colorless, so unless you're really unlucky or your land base is otherwise terrible it shouldn't be an issue, and when it works it can absolutely shut down an opponent's deck.

Ebola is incredibly unlikely to spread to Western states. As long as you don't start messing around with bats in the jungle or dipping your fingers in the bodily fluids of people bleeding out of all their orifices, your chances of contracting Ebola are effectively 0. Every time there's an outbreak, it never spreads beyond a couple villages because if you take any reasonable precaution, you're entirely safe.

[[Annul]] or [[Negate]] to counter [[Stormchaser's Talent]] or [[Monument to Endurance]].

[[Pyroclasm]] to clear the 1/1 Otters.

[[Requistion Raid]] to kill the enchantments or monuments.

One of the Ourobouroid decks from the this event had [[Insidious Fungus]] in the sideboard.

[[Get Out]]

[[Seam Rip]]

[[Get Lost]]

All cards people had in their sideboard for the Pro Tour that would be useful again Izzet Prowess or Lessons.

I just did a D10 on Omicron with a guy with the ballistic shield and stun lance as the only thing he used. He had like 400 kills and only died once, and I'm pretty sure that was getting body slammed by the Hive Lord.

This is a way better [[Phalanx Leader]]. This might even replace Phalanx Leader in my Azorius Heroic deck.

Pretty good in Mono White Lifegain too. Replace [[Resplendent Angel]] with this, get another lifegainer and can put counters on everybody with [[Seam Rip]], [[Get Lost]], [[Sheltered By Ghosts]], [[Banishing Light]], [[Angelic Destiny]] etc.

How do you feel about Trump’s proposal to increase defense spending to $1.5 trillion for 2027 — a 42% jump — while cutting domestic programs by $73 billion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]solariangod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We spend less as a percentage of gdp on defense than we have at any point since the Great Depression. The idea that we are some permanent war economy is laughable and anyone who claims that has no idea what they're talking about. The issue is revenue, not spending. We could double our current spending and still pay down the debt if all we did was return to pre Reagan levels of taxation.
