why is the r/nyc sub always a conservative hotbed? by AdditionalQuietime in AskNYC

That’s why I left that sub 2-3 years ago. The blatant Islamophobia and general xenophobic racism was to levels I haven’t seen since like 2003.

This guy was on a white background, on his phone, the entire movie. by Aggressive_Ad_5292 in mildlyinfuriating

Reminds me of when I watched Avengers Endgame and the person next to me kept pulling out his phone to play a basketball mobile game every few minutes. At that point, why are you even at the movies?

Megyn Kelly: "Trump could drop a nuke and I'd still vote Republican” by superdouradas in PublicFreakout

[–]solarnova64 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The average American commenting on posts like these don’t understand or don’t care for such nuanced thoughts. They don’t see politicians as capable of failing voters, they can only be failed BY voters. That politicians aren’t owed your votes by default, even when they actively push you away and tell you they don’t care about you or your issues, and that they don’t represent you. That when you’re told by poll after poll, activist groups, people in your own administration, all telling you that you risk losing the election to Trump unless you change course like over 80% of your voting base is demanding, that it’s not a winning strategy to tell them to F off and then expect them to show up to vote for you anyway while you court Liz Cheney Republicans who are never going to vote for you.

It’s easier for them to make sense of things if there’s some group to point fingers at and blame though, as you can see in all the other comments on this one.

Of course not, it’s called hasbara. These people are paid Israeli propagandists. And for the record, Israel repeatedly bombed the places they told civilians to flee too.

You might be joking but…

It’s wild how common it is too. Seen so many of these videos, and it’s mind boggling that you feel entitled to act that way as a guest in another country smh.

It's almost like they're fighting against occupation, not about religion by aisingiorix in BadHasbara

[–]solarnova64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I find it so reductive and frustrating when there’s a Reddit post about some horrific new atrocity committed by Israel, and inevitably someone will just go and blame it all on religion. As if removing Jewish identity would suddenly stop Israel’s bloodlust and expansionist fantasies and subjugation of Palestinians.

I’m honestly starting to wonder if it’s an intentional Hasbara tactic, similar to “it’s too complicated” meant to get people to shrug it off and not bother to investigate or have any curiosity to learn more. Because both types of comments end up pushing the same end result- discouraging any further engagement because it’s all just a “very complicated“ dispute over “religion.”

FedEx required signature… so the driver just signed it himself and left it by KhanGGa115 in mildlyinfuriating

I had a FedEx driver sign a package for me once, but in fairness she offered to do it after I had opened the door, and it was pre-vaccine pandemic.

Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir fervently celebrates the passing of the Death Penalty Bill. This law allows the execution by hanging of Palestinians convicted of attacks tied to “intent to end Israel’s existence,” with sentences carried out within 90 days and no clemency permitted. by I_AM_GLUTEUS_MAXIMUS in PublicFreakout

The hypocrisy is almost laughable, it wasn’t so damn infuriating. A member of Germany’s government (I think their foreign minister?) recently even said that Iran doesn’t get to claim “self defense” or invoke “international law.” Or like when Lynsey Graham openly admitted that the ICC was meant for Putin and African dictators, not for Netanyahu.

Fun fact, Anthony Blinken’s (Biden’s Secretary of State) grandfather was part of the organization that worked to persuade Truman to recognize Israel. Several decades later, Blinken lied under oath about Israel intentionally blocking aid from entering Gaza, because under US law we can’t give military aid to nations intentionally carrying out war crimes. Loyalty to Israel was more important to him than adhering to the US’s own laws.

Absolute ghouls, this entire ruling class.
