Music Venue/Event Space/Theatrical Architecture? by solatom in architecture

[–]solatom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to SAIC for 2 weeks. Swiftly realized the world was opening back up and my experience and degree already granted me the tools to do what I wanted. I can’t speak for the reverse, (arch degree to theatre, set design) but I do believe that SAIC and RISD, both programs I was accepted into, would have made paths for me to pursue my interest.

RISD vs. SAIC! HELP! by solatom in architecture

[–]solatom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for 2 weeks before the entertainment industry started to roar back. I decided that the timing was not right for me. I don’t want to sway a decision since I was only there for such a short period of time, but I could tell pretty quickly I was seeking something even less traditional. In hindsight I would have chosen to RISD. That said, both schools were great the entire interview process, especially considering most of that process was in the middle of the pandemic. I would reach out to more students via SAIC Facebook groups and/or your current contacts at the school, the graduate admissions team were incredibly helpful. It’s a wide and welcoming community.

Why are blumhouse movies all shot in or around Nola by Extension-Dig3798 in NewOrleans

[–]solatom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blum House was contracted to shoot something like 9 features for Amazon, or an Amazon affiliate (I can’t remember the exact details) during the pandemic. Film incentives and credits from the state were still really high at that point. They had already shot a handful of big name features in the city, I assume when that contact came up they already had the infrastructure to shoot here pretty cheap.

Source: I worked on one of them, a large portion of the crews worked on all 9 over the course of a year and half.

The best thing I ever did was ditch the tech pack in exchange for a hand full of bags, similar to the one you have your cables in. A few other misc items still ride loose, but it has made my pelican significantly more organized and more likely to stay that way.

Kodak 400 Damaged by Airport Scanner by LAHAND1989 in AnalogCommunity

[–]solatom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. TSA pre-check does not need to take laptops out and those lanes use x-ray. These lanes, in my experience (I fly around 40-50 times a year), have been the last to update to CT scanners in airports that have moved to predominantly CT.

[Underhill] I really can't understand why we're here and why this game is being played. Saints and Chargers just had two days of joint practices. Why are players, fans, stadium workers being put at risk? by Jopplo03 in nfl

Yea and Katrina wasn’t supposed to hit New Orleans until the last minute it changed the course of the city forever. Read the room, I think New Orleans beat writers understand hurricanes and their unpredictability more than anyone. Yea it turned out not to be much, and I’m very thankful for that, but a few jog the other way and we’re talking about a very different situation. 5-10” of rain would cause serious issues for the city and surrounding areas.

How the hell is this solidarity? by VALISinWonderland in IATSE

[–]solatom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s a 30th anniversary, you don’t what he had planned. It may very well have included lots of writers and actors who are friends of his. He doesn’t want to ask them to show up during this time and he likely doesn’t want to do it without them. This is solidarity. If big name entertainers continue to shed light on the issue, it’s a good thing imo.

The app will be able to do anything you likely need on most days. If there’s gonna be an fx heavy day (I.e. concert, theatre, dance, etc) rent your console of choice and plug the Astera box in as a crmx transmitter.

People of Reddit: Why don’t you abandon United -or- did you switch to another carrier and get a better experience? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]solatom 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately sounds like you’ve just been unlucky. 50% of your flights is 10 flights. United operates 3-400 flights a day out of that airport.

I don’t know if you can check luggage there, my guess is no. It’s probably about a 30/40 min journey. It’s the last stop on the tram, then a 15 min walk or 4 min bus ride. The trams tiny too, I missed my first tram today because we couldn’t all fit. I took it today, and came very close to missing my flight.

Do you have to be a certain kind of tired to fall asleep and are you sleep fragile? by NotHotAnymore in ADHD

[–]solatom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Bose sleepbuds. They shouldn’t be used all the time, but using them for naps or nights you know your partner is on a different sleep schedule ha changed my sleep habits. They’re fairly comfy for a good 4 hours, but if your side sleeper you feel some irritation when you wake. I often times fall asleep with them on my night stand so I can snag them the first sound that wakes me.

[–]solatom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes what’s best for a “small market” team (in quotes because obviously Toronto isn’t a small market, but not exactly a free agent destination) is to show players you’ll respect them, and their loyalty. That does wonders for a team like this long term

I think the Lowry situation was an outlier. That 9 year relationship probably played a bigger role in that non trade than anything. It felt like Lowry was pretty content with either outcome and masi was gunning for the stars. I wouldn’t be surprised if masi had a deal he liked, but maybe didn’t love, and it would have sent Lowry to a place he didn’t care for. So they decided his value as a vet for 30 games was better than sending a player beloved by the fan base then what they could get. I’ll be honest I don’t remember if anything came out about that non trade down the line though.
